I would prefer a slighty different battle with all tanks: One tank for every tank type e.g: 1 T-26, 1 BT-5, 1 BT-7...... (and so on) vs 1 Tetrach, 1 Valentine, 1 Crusader..... (and so on).

In addition Soviet forces learned to build better tanks before the allies did. Nazi Germany only picked up the thinking after they learned the 88mm was bouncing off crappy T-34s. Allied tanks did not improve in protection or killing capacity until well after the second half of Vietnam; by then Soviet tanks were already using NBC protection and advanced optics and some additional crew protection post Stalin.

A few years after WW 2, India and Pakistan fought eachother. India used sherman 17 pounders, Pakistan used t34-85. Both could kill eachother in one shot. Shermans hit more often at first shot so they won most battles. So yeah, british could win.
British got better AT guns (17pdr, 6pdr) which were much better at fighting tanks, but were worse vs infantry/fortifications. Also, British tanks were quite good protected (Cromwell VIII had around 102mm of armour, Cromwells V - 80-ish). Not to mention Churchills with 152mm of armour (but gun sucks). US 76s had worse AT performance and 90mm was just slightly better than 17pdr (and only a few tanks had 90mm guns when the British was putting 17pdr everywhere they could). In a fight with the Soviets, who were quite heavy armoured, the British would do better in this case of scenario than US guns.
@@dashkin3727 yes but the soviets had very good AT guns too, that were also brutally effective against whatever thing the british could field at the time, that scenario is simply not plausible since the soviets were using old KV tanks and the british were using much more modern designs to fight them

Also, the Lend lease Shermans sent to Russia were very popular and considered every bit the equal of their own T-34's,
