  • Barn Find Hunter Tom Cotter has been hunting cars since he was 12 and has discovered more than his share of hidden gems. So when he says, “This is what dreams are made of,” you can take it to the bank.
In BFH, episode 20, presented by Shell and Quaker State, Tom heads to South Carolina and gets more than he bargained for. First, he admires the remains of a rare 1953 Woodill Wildfire, one of approximately 300 built by Dodge and Willys dealer Blanchard Robert “Woody” Woodill in Downey, Calif. Tom checks out a 1967 Porsche 912 and a 1947 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special when things get a little wild-literally.
After driving to North Carolina to visit old friend Steve Davis, a former member of Dale Jarrett’s NASCAR team, Tom strolls through a car-filled building that Steve claims “is longer than a football field.” He isn’t kidding. Tom also admires a barn full of Jaguars-from an XK140 roadster to an XKE 2+2-and inspects a 1932 Chevrolet moonshine car, complete with a bullet hole in the rear window.

I am from the uk 🇬🇧 and so enjoy watching these shows, I knew nothing about American cars until I started watching, I feel I have learnt a lot and love the passion you guys have for the old stuff, I have watched every episode and wait to see news ones, I searched and found my own barn find three cars on a farm in a barn that had been sat for 12 years I bought them and have recommissioned one and half way through the next. This programme is pure inspiration keep it up guys!!!! 👍

Not really. They make new old ones from the factory exactly identical to the originals. With the condition of those in the barn, the restoration cost would be as high as just buying the same car from the factory. You'd have to replace almost everything. Let them rot away.

These places really do exist, you find them when you least expect it. I just found a corvette grave yard deep in the woods. There was a 100yr old factory building full of cars. In the middle was a 63 split window corvette. The owner had it for 40yrs. I ended up buying it. Great show. Keep on hunting!

I love this show and Tom's presentation. It's fun to watch all the barn finds and stuff but I feel somewhat bad for the folks have so much stuff collected over the years they can't get them back on the road or pass on before they can get a project running/restored. I wish I had the money to restore some of the cool finds if I could get my hands on one. I have a tough enough time keeping up with one or two project cars and although I'm not a mechanic I can do a few repairs. The other issue I have is I may find a mechanic who says he can fix a problem my car has but in reality he jumped a wire or took another shortcut just to get paid, and get the car out of his shop. Old school mechanics are getting harder to find, along with ridiculous prices for NOS parts for my old '74 Dodge. It's extremely frustrating to pay good money for crappy repairs or rebuilt carbs that don't work correctly. At least the local parts store gives me a refund every time I have to return a rebuilt 1 barrel carb for my slant 6. I might have to spend $2200 at Summit for the Clifford 4 barrel intake/exhaust kit. I enjoy the car but i am already upside down on the value vs. what I have spent over the last 11 years. I have always enjoyed car shows and cruising but it's become a rich man's hobby and as I am nearing age 60 my priorities are changing.

Honestly, I don't even know what the car at the 6 minute mark is, but it would be a crime to remove it from that space. Buy the barn with it, along with all the dead leaves and dirt, and put the whole thing as is in an art exhibit. That scene cannot be tampered with.
(Maybe leave the animals behind though)

So I'm essentially 4 days late on this because this stupid TH-cam didn't send me a notification even though I've specifically "told" it to as the bell is ticked.
Anyway, another lovely episode. I envy you Americans, you have so many of these old cars laying around just waiting to be saved by someone and restored. Here in Italy we don't have anything of this scale. And the few abandoned "project cars" we can find and buy are overpriced as hell because the owners think they're Ferraris worth hundreds of thousands of Euros even if they're just old Fiat 500s worth only the metal they're made of.

What is the point of having 12 barns full of cars and bikes that should be sold to people that would put them back on the road (where they truly belong, and would be properly treasured) ..... what a waste

Or sold to people who’ll resell them for a quick profit and drive up the prices.

Find an older XKE and install any decent America small block V-8 and you will have a better car than original if you want to ride around. The old straight 6 was very heavy and hard to tune. The first conversion I ever saw was a Mopar 318 installed and it handled far better than original because that V-8 weighed about a hundred pounds less than the 6. My weights may be off but that is what the builder told me back when I was young (21 in 1972) and the internet did not have all the facts available.

I like old cars but I love old motorcycles and there is chunks of gold everywhere there. Was that a Mustang peddle car next to that Honda QA50?

My mate's late mum owned a few E-Types throughout her younger years. When I was 16/17 she had an old E-Type sitting outside in the back of the house.
When I was about 18/19 she sold it for an offer of £2000? I think some guy heard about it through the grapevines and just walked up and made her the offer.
When I was about 21/22 she confessed that was gutted she didn't ask if I wanted it, being a car/bike geek and in a close nit group of mates with her sons. She would've just given it to me if I asked... Granted, I'd have no idea what I would've done with an E-Type, but I was close to having some old lady ask if I wanted to take it. But its now in my 30's I really respect the style and design of those things.

Are these people really saving these cars... I feel they are just hording them into an early grave of rust and dust.
It's like buying all the antique furniture when it's cheap then leaving it all to rott.

But nice series! Maybe consider something about car restauration as an upcoming series... ;)
