- Change is part of human life. Our world is constantly changing and evolving to fit our needs and to keep up with technology. Dinosaurs. Latin. Smallpox. Typewriters. Phone books. Cassette tapes. Parachute pants. Pagers. These are just a handful of the innumerable things that used to be commonplace but have since dwindled, declined, or altogether disappeared. While it was, at one point, hard to imagine a world without them, they've been relegated to relics. With a future on the horizon, we can't help but wonder what will be next to slide from ubiquity into oblivion.

And the notion of them being worn on our wrists is laughable. I use my phone in conjunction with a smartwatch and I can tell you here and now that I sure wouldn’t fancy trying to watch a TH-cam video on it. The display is too small. I’ll take a Z Fold concealing a humongous display that can be folded out over a smartwatch with my SIM card in it any day.

I doubt that handshakes are a thing of the past. It'll come back again like how it didn't disappear in the Roaring 20s. I agree that physical maps will likely disappear soon along with fax machines thanks to computers and printers. But physical calculators are still likely to exist due to accessible convenience and rarely make errors. As smartphones... they will not disappear... they'll evolve and hybrid with a laptop, likely called an intercom. As farmers... I still see they'll still be around; farmers are going to be different but they'll still be around and always be needed, they'll always be needed in sky farms, space colonies, farm colonies and always will.

i doubt that paper maps will disappear anytime soon, people that use boats (example; sailing) uses paper maps alot because gps' rarely works since we often have no connection while on the water. trust me, im a sailor and i know this

Along with that they'll still use the compasses for compasses always works as long as there's no heavy amounts of iron interfere the needles. And likely sailors most likely can print out and laminate their own maps in the future.

call me old-fashioned, but i never really got into e-readers or audiobooks. i like to feel the physical book in my hand, and it's so satisfying to see your bookmark move slowly from beginning to end as you progress through the book.

This. Plus it's so much easier on the eyes, and it's a collectible. Physical things just hold much more value for us, and when we work with things of higher value, we work more efficiently.

Handshakes, paper maps, calculators, books, textbooks, keys, passwords, in-person voting & farmers

Calculators definetly won't be disappearing anytime soon due to some schools having strict rules against the use of phones, also the default calculator app has way less mathematical options than most physical calculators.

Yeah, likely they tried it 100 years ago but look how often it's been used in the late Roaring 20s to 2020. It just went on hiatus. Along with cheerleaders, they'll always be needed and someone likely in the future would start it over again since sexuality can be suppressed (of course they shouldn't) but sexuality will not die out.

Yes, I agree. Students need physical calculators because they are not allowed to bring their mobile phones to school. Most of the schools do not allow students to bring phones. So we need to use a physical calculator. I know there is a calculator in mobile phones too, but phones are not allowed in school, that's why we need a physical calculator.

I have doubts they'll be obsolete... I believe they'll be too improbable to be obsolete. They're always needed, they know how to do things right. Of course things will be different but still be around, there are going to be robots, going to have sky farms, going to have farm planets but farmers are always going to be needed, always are and always will until the day we went extinct.

If things are disappearing in the future, this is actually bad for us. Farmers will disappear as we can grow food in labs, but because of this, farmers will lose their jobs. When we get self-driving cars, there will be no taxi drivers. But because of this technology and advancements, many people might lose their jobs, they won't be able to become taxi drivers or farmers. That's a bad situation. I know it sounds good to have those cool things like self-driving cars and other stuff, but if this happens, then people will lose their jobs, and that's where the problem is. Have you even thought about this?

People will always keep and often use so called obsolete technology, sometimes its actually better than the latest, and sometimes like with the record player it becomes fashionable again. Things may not be sold online new or in store anymore, but second hand trade I think will always be around.
