Since I Laid My Burden Down (John Hurt) Clawhammer Guitar

One of my favorites from Mississippi John Hurt. I’ve been thinking that maybe in the future, I can sing at funerals and this would be one of the songs. I would dress in black and wear my black cowboy hat like the undertaker.

Hey Chris, I love your videos and I’m trying to learn to play clawhammer like you do. It’s a struggle for sure and I’m having a hard time making it feel natural. How did you learn? Is there anything you can suggest? Thanks a lot :)

Just keep at it and you’ll get it eventually. I remember struggling to get the rhythm and it was very frustrating, but don’t give up. Make sure you watch my beginner lesson video if you haven’t already. I learned from Steve Baughman on Pegheadnation.com and he has a wonderful teaching style. You might want to check that out. I hope this helps. It can take some time but it’s worth it! I really appreciate you watching and please don’t hesitate to ask more questions if you have any!
