Still remarkable how KITT's 1982 interior looks exponentially better than the 1991 KIFT interior, and in reality only the stage dash had electronics, since the 2 real driving Knight4000 cars had blank interiors. It really irked me back in 1991 when Devon said the 4000 was technically superior since KITT actually was equal or superior in just about everything....and in the real world the Trans Am was hotter, better handing and better looking than the Banshee knockoff 6cycl non-turbo Stealth KIFT was. KITT basically kicked KIFT's tail pipe

Knight 4000 could have been so much more if the scriptwriters and money men had put more into this movie. Could've been really great in it's own right as a show. This is probably why people now use silly terms like 'kift'
It's ironic in movies & TV shows, a sentient Ai as man's best friend, but in reality, the worse nightmare to mankind, is something that replicates their own mentality to sin.
There is no "Knight Industries Four Thousand" or "K.I.F.T." There is a Knight 4000 vehicle with a built-in generic A.I. using Russ Maddock's voice. Basically in this day & age it would be like having Siri. The Knight 2000 was built with Series 2000 circuitry and its A.I. happened to be named the Knight Industries Two Thousand. In some old Knight Rider episodes K.I.T.T. was removed from the Knight 2000 and ended up in a TV/radio yet he was still K.I.T.T.
On purpose, I think... they wanted Maddox to be a bit of a jackass so that he could be the bureaucratic obstacle for Michael and KITT to overcome, one last time.
I agree. While no other car in the world can replace the original Trans Am KITT, the new Mustang KITT is a fantastic addition in its own right. It has some elements of the original KITT and it looks way better than this red monstrosity.
They shoulda had an extended makeover scene where Michael installs KITT into the 4000, painting it black and with the help of KITT, modifying some parts to make the exterior to be more slim and less of a bullet point pen. I think the series woulda at least done some good with that.
The first concept designs showed KITT to be a black Banshee, but was changed to the color red and the model being from a Dodge Stealth. KITT being in this new form is I think because of Universal's choice to stray as far away from the original show as much as possible, due to a disagreement they had with Glen Larson and only crediting him for the characters in the film.
Who else here feels that the 4000 pales in comparison to Kitt's original body? The Dashboard has little effort put into it, the virtual reality feels cheap and that sound? Still it's not as bad as the car we got in Knight Rider 2005.
The 4000 actually looks good, to say it's a copy of a concept car. It's filmed from good angles. The turbine sound inside the warehouse is quite good too. Pretty funny that it has Maddox's voice.
