Pickett lost his job because of an injury after the head coach said he wouldn't lose his job because of any injury. Then again, Tomlin has lied to his players before. (See Blount and Engram.)
As a Steelers fan I really wanted to like Pickett but even I knew he wasn't the answer after the 1st year, the kid couldn't read a defense to save his life.

I think many of you may be too young to remember how horrible Peyton Manning/Drew Brees/Justin Fields were in their first 25 games. . . worse W/L record and stats than Kenny with a worse ability to read defenses. Hard to read defenses when you literally had the worst OC in the history of the NFL with one of the worst lines in the NFL during his tenure. It would still be easy to like Pickett if we just stopped acting like QBs are supposed to be NFL ready day 1 or even year 1. KP could have played better, but he played better than Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. . . there would be no Peyton Manning or Drew Brees in today's childish, entitled society where we immediately expect greatness.

Hot take: Kenny didnt give on on the Steelers. They gave up on him. The game he played vs the Bengals he looked outstanding. And he was benched afterwards. Even though he told the team he was ready to play. The team wouldn't let him play, despite him saying he was good to go.

This is not a hot take. They told Kenny he would have QB1 with competition, then Russ was made available and they changed their tune and said Russ would start. If he was afraid of competition he wouldn’t have gone to Philly. They did him wrong. 🤷🏽♂️.
A 67.5 QBR is an improvement to his season QBR of 38.1, but it's not exactly outstanding. 1st half of the Arizona game, before yet anothet injury, his QBR had regressed toward the mean at 43.7.
If he wasn't a Pitt QB, there would have been even less patience for an older, supposedly "pro ready" QB prospect, who's thrown 13 TD's in 25 games played.

He could also just be someone that maybe they call off the couch if they have significant injuries mid season and need depth. We shall see. I wouldn’t hold my breath. @@IWillNotArgueWithMorons Pat P basically had the same stats in 2023 as he did in 2018, ie interceptions/touchdowns allowed/completion percentage/yards. He can still help this team. My guess is that he’s old and doesn’t want to be in OTAs. I think he will sign when training camp officially begins.

Pat Pete didn't say anything crazy. . . he just said "credible" as in Russell Wilson has tenure. If he said Fields was a credible QB, then we'd have a problem because he's been statistically and objectively worse than KP. But Russ is a proven or "credible" QB and the only credible QB on the Steelers roster, currently.
