What's the purpose of teaching blind students the "formation" of letters? They will never "see" them, nor be able to realistically "write" them unless using braile (a completely different system). I'm trying to understand your thought process behind this, please elaborate.

Speaking as a teacher of the blind and visually impaired, let me point out a few reasons. First, most VI students are not blind, so they use large print rather than braille. Even braille readers need to learn to sign their names. It's also useful to know the shapes of the letters to understand terms like L-shaped, U-turn, etc.
