I happen to like and use the Norwegian purl!! Most people outside Scandinavia have never heard of it, so all those twists and turns are counter-productive for you (because you are NOT getting your point across ) and for a lot of the viewers (because they are not understanding the maneuver and the pattern). :( You probably would get more mileage if you used the standard Continental purl technique. My default method is the so-called "Finnish-style" purl. :)
