Exactly! The Aerith and Sephiroth that we see in the Remake's story; they are from the future. Meaning they are trying to change the past and they already know what happens during the events of the original Final Fantasy 7.
@@benpounds210 I don't mind something new but when you change it for something worse with bad storytelling some fans might not like it. Like some fans can understand some like more simple stuff without question the plot. Just like the current situation with He-Man from Netflix.
As a KH fan I find a huge hypocrisy in these fandoms. When KH makes a huge story filled with twists and turn over a long period of time it's described as "Nomura and his madness/shenanigans/bullshit storytelling" but FF7 remake does it all in one game and it's seen as this huge achievement and master storytelling. There isn't a big difference between what KH has been doing since Birth by Sleep and FF7 remake and I think anyone who praises FF7 remake for their storytelling and Loki and the way mavel are doing their story should be saying the same for KH even if they don't like the franchise or Nomura.
@@sageofthestrawberries8127 no, for so many reasons no. Mainly, because as you said ff7 remake did it in ONE game. Kh did it over several...like they just kept changing their minds. That's the difference. FF7 makes sense at the end of the day. KH has several different stories with related bits and pieces.
@@kalieffoster4607 Like I said since Birth by sleep. A lot of theories have come to light in KH3 that started in Birth by sleep because by then (not before in a lot of cases) is when the story started becoming more concrete and focused and some things even started in KH2 stayed till the end in KH3. Also people spout the same level of "storytelling brilliance" with the marvel franchise and that is done in multiple installments over a long period of time. Still doesn't deserve the disrespect other communities give it.
That's what Toriyama thought about himself after he wrote the plot of FF13-2 were the events and changes in the future alters the past, lol What a genius writer
Genesis really killed Crisis Core for me. He was a thematic parallel of Sephiroth to Zack that couldn't shut up about his stupid novel. If the remake can change and improve Gackt in any way, I hope they remove Loveless of any plot significance. The play is a prop for Midgar's billboards, nothing more.
@@JaceAce22 ....isn't loveless also similar to the trials, goals and how genesis views his relationship with angel and sephiroth and the situation they find themselves in
@superc37 Yes. I think it is really a sequel, some complains why square enix marketed this game as a remake but square cannot state that this game is a sequel cause it will affect the narrative of the game, this game is design to make us believe that this is a remake and gave us a big reveal in the end where everything will be explained, make us players as the unreliable narrator cause we know the plot of the og, like cloud in the game with a messed up memory. Its a big ass meta, og ff7 revolutionized the rpg games back in ps1 era so they want also to make ff7r different to other games by having this kind of narrative that affect not only within the game but also us players
@superc37 we do have different preferences, and i respect ur opinion about the game, just want to say the developers wants to re-achieved what ogff7 does which made jrpg game more popular or mainstream, by having a meta narrative for the ff7r. Just what they said they dont want to made 1 to 1 remake, because after that it would just disappear on the radar. So they made a gamble for this one, made it a masterpiece for todays era or just another mediocre or worst game. Cause no remake would be state as a masterpiece, only original art.
@superc37 they clearly don’t want to make a proper 1:1 remake? Literally this whole dev team is filled with ppl that worked on the OG ff7 team and they decided to take it in this direction, so maybe they just want a tell a continuation. What’s wrong with that seriously? Not saying it’s not a little scummy to market it as a faithful remake but they did that because the game narratively is written to be that way so it makes sense to market it like that so you can have the big twist, like you said the OG FF7 will never be forgotten it’s an iconic game and the team wanna tell a continuation of that so I respect it
@superc37 I literally agreed with you that it was scummy to marketed as a faithful remake but I think the team wanted it to be a surprise to fans like from the trailers it because outside of the end of part 1 it FEELS like a remake it’s not until the end you realize what’s going on
@superc37 @superc37 if they make 1 to 1 remake then we will not have this kind of conversation and speculation, look at the resident evil remake its a good game but i doubt this generation of players will talk about it for the next 20years that's what i meant disappear on the radar. nothing becomes a masterpiece on purpose, yes that is correct but good creators will always strive for a masterpiece art. They dont want it to follow the shadows of the OG but want to stand beside it or maybe surpass it which will never be if they just made it the same game with updated graphics, I think thats why the devs take it in this direction, they're not making this game for nostalgia sake alone but want to give new generation players their very own ff7 experience, but maybe im wrong im not with the dev team. Part 1 is a great game but it has some issues, especially the pacing at the end part, i also dont want them to change the major plot points of the story and i feel that they won't, i read some news about the recent translation of the latest release of the ultimania, where toriyama said that they are still following the main theme of ff7 which is life and death and dealing with loss but then let see what will happen by the end
@@jonathansoko1085 disagree. I love the game. It was blast. Can’t wait to see what they do with it. Sucks you didn’t enjoy it tho. Hey, you always have the original.

I actually wouldn't be surprised, there was one guy in the game who gave you a cd and he looked EXACTLY like Nobuo Uematsu. I think he even gave a remix of the Crystal Theme.
@@jfieqj it could be , remember Max journey to ffvii remake and how the dev meet up with him and talk with him and supposedly saying that they watch max vid during the development.

"Aerith has a lot of different memories residing within her" They literally just confirmed what we all thought: the Aerith we see in Remake is likely the same Aerith from the original, with all the memories and knowledge of what happened before. She also let it slip that she knew about "take care of Marlene". Tifa was visibly confused but didn't question it. This puts a really interesting twist on Aerith's big speeches in Ch 17 and 18. Since the Whispers were trying to take her memories away and now they're destroyed, she realizes she is now free from her original fate of what happened the first time. The way Sephiroth killed her cannot possibly happen the same way now, as they both know how it happened before. It seems like they may be setting up for something far more cruel and shocking.
Something crazy occurred to me just now reading this. It's possible that Aerith puts herself in the same position as end of disc one, but fully intends to dodge the strike, but Cloud notices it and takes the sword instead. Like, imagine going through the rest of the story with no Cloud at all. No resurrection possible like in Chrono Trigger, he's just dead.
This is totally left field, but reminds me of Sora NOT having his memories of Chain of Memories but the only game he has been able to use Holy, might be irrelevant but theres alot of story analysis on the Kingdom Hearts side of Square Enix too, where alternate timelines or realities are a thing.
I honestly hope this is not the case; the worst mistake Sephiroth made was killing Aerith. Her death granted her uninhibited access to the Lifestream which just made her a far greater threat than she ever could have been alive. If the man is smart, he'd make sure she survives because then her ability to manipulate the Lifestream would be far more limited in nature.
I don't know how anybody couldn't see a lot of this shit coming. Calling the Marlene and Aerith thing a "plot hole" when it's -very clearly- done on purpose.
The real plot hole is how there's no time travel elements in any FF7 products (not even the movie) besides this "remake". No setup, no lose ends, etc... Time travel is suddenly a thing now, it's like Nomura flipped a switch and there it is: a new rule
@@RRRRRRRRR33 There's nothing wrong introducing a new rule/concept/element if it contradicts nothing that has been established prior, like time traveler Trunks in Dbz for exemple.
@@idontmindbeingforgotten712 The existence of time travel itself is a contradiction. Why no character ever attempted time travel before in this universe? And if they can do it now, what stops them to do it again and again? It's the chicken egg conundrum. Even if Nomura and his hacks attempts to create (even more) rules designed to limit this new rule, regardless, the damage is already done
It was never confirmed that it is time travel. Everybody uses this frame, because saying "time travel" is faster than, "oh, the characters has knowledge about the future". Time travel was not confirmed in any way or form, only that two characters (Seph and Aerith) has knowledge regarding the future. (It is painfully clear that Sephiroth does know about what should happen till the end of Advent Children (his last appearance), possible even more. For those, not believing this, go watch Advent Children with english subtitle and japaese voice acting, then go and watch translations of the japanese version of Remake. Many things was lost in localisation, but in the original language, it screams that Seph has future knowledge.) So before complaining about time travel, the fact of time travel should be confirmed - and it is not. They have knowledge, and that can be gathered in a various form. Yes, time travel is one, but not the only one. Clairvoyancy, lifestream stuff, memories sent back in time or through lifestream... And by the way, there is time materia in the game, which means messing with time is possible.
Marlene saw herself looking out the window at the end of VII as the Lifestream stopped Meteor, and she saw Aerith within the Lifestream directing it. Mark my words.
There is no chance Nero doesn't come back. That setup with him possibly using a Sonon corpse puppet was way too big. I will say Nero was the FF7comp character i disliked the most and I thought he worked well in the dlc so I am fine with it.
I figured as much when the Yuffie Mission first dropped. Sonon will be brought back for an emotional moment with Yuffie and she ends up having to defeat his undead/mutant monster ass or something.
Could just be a nod to and acknowledgement of that power like with the Shinra guards. I too think he will come back again, but I don't think he has to just based on that scene.
I know this is a year late but... screw it, might as well say it; I really like Nero, I feel like he and Weiss could be good characters... IF they're not used for plot purposes. Nero and Weiss work a lot better in the Yuffie DLC than they did in DoC because they're not really plot relevant characters; they're bloodthirsty killing machines who enjoy the thrill of the hunt and the suffering they impose on others and I feel like the same is true for all of the Tsviets if they ever attempt to use them in the games again. When you fight Nero at the end of the DLC and there's no heavy plot reason for the fight to happen other than the fact that it's a fight to the death because he wants it to be that way, that just works so well for the character and it really lets them shine. I will say this until the day I die; the Tsviets aren't bad characters, the original plot that they were thrown into was and it just reflected on them really poorly.
Omg. Aerith knowing what is happening and trying her best to act oblivious but accidentally letting things slip here and there is such a cool concept. You talking about this gave me goosebumps. I definitely noticed the Marlene instance. I just love how they are handling this so much.

The "another world" he keeps alluding to makes me think the theory that the other world is the afterlife in the life stream is correct. Would explain how all the dead people are still alive, even Biggs.
This is actually pretty dope, and could actually be very true! The fact that Aerith isn't in Zack's timeline is because she's...still alive! Zack could meet with Jessie at Gold Saucer because Jessie is....dead! Don't know if this could be true, sounds pretty messy, but could work.
I also see these theory on one of the channel about ff7 and I think its very possible, remember about the last scene of og ff7 where the lifestream came out and save the world and then aerith show up implying aerith made something to the lifestream that helps to save the world but we dont know how, i think they will show us whats happening on the lifestream (afterlife) helps to explained how aerith summon the lifestream. @@christianvillarreal2886 Essentially, Loki is about a group of people (the TVA) preserving a "sacred timeline" and anyone who makes different choices that lead the timeline into a different path are taken, marked as "variants", and everything that would cause the timeline to diverge is scrubbed away. To explain FFVIIR's plot, Sephiroth could be a "variant" by going back and altering the timeline, causing the Whispers to appear and try to course correct the timeline the way it's supposed to be.
Like Aerith, Max has been touched by the Lifestream and now struggles with multiple memories where he knows the future of the franchise, but he can't tell us up front or the Whispers will get him.
Wasn't that all debunked ages ago? Last I checked Gackt and SE don't have issues with each other and there were other reasons CC was never ported/remastered.
I never even noticed marlene had a vision when hugging Aerith. I just rewatched the scene. Dang I've played through the game twice and I apparently need a 3rd playthrough with this context now. That's crazy
how...how did you NOT realize that? *le gasp* Aerith even makes a sign to "keep quite" about it. And Marlene nods. Let me guess, you also didn't realize that Marlene heard / felt Barrett at the end when he called out to her. She was at Aerith's house and watering a yellow flower (and the flower has the meaning of being "reunited") and she heard him. Marlene has some strong sensitivity here. Plus, she will definitely be reunited with her dad. The flower said so. XDD
@@udalix the first time I watched it I assumed Aerith used whatever weird powers she had in the remake to calm Marlene down, and get her to come. I didn't realize it was Marlene having a vision
I remember catching one of those moments when Aerith said something cryptic and I burst into tears because I was absolutely convinced that she had already gone through the original timeline or she knew what was going to happen. Feels really good to see it confirmed.
Yeah i never did understand why people thought these idea's were so ridiculous when it's so in your face during multiple parts of the game. Atleast i personal thought it was, regardless it's confirmed now so maybe now the community can finally accept it. Yes there's multiple timelines taking place.
@@Shantae1188 That's a questionable scene. I know some people say Aerith knew because she holds those memories from events that transpired within other timelines but you are right that the same could be said about her finding out due to the scene during the train yard since Aerith can obviously see the whispers that took the form of Marlene and was showing specifically Tifa that she was in danger causing Tifa to say her name twice outloud. Cloud was the only one who didn't see any of this at the time. He was confused by both Aerith saying she see's a girl and Tifa's reaction. That's a pretty confusing scene but Aerith does without doubt knows things she shouldn't. It's completely understandable why that cutscene might confuse you
I understood at the first time. It make me feel like go back in time meet Aerith for real Not just replay just some game but time plot make me feel i came back to meet them again for real And i love that But the way they told ghost time at the end is so bad
Could the alternate timeline be considered as Lifestream itself? It sorta reminds me of Advent Children when Zack was able to interact with Cloud almost like he's still "alive". Also a scene where Marlene could sense Aerith too.
Did you notice how Aerith knew Cloud specifically by name when he fell from the upper plate down into the church? When they met the first time on the street they never exchanged names. Yet she calls him Cloud when they meet again and she asks him to be her bodyguard. At first I thought it was just a slip up by the devs but knowing everything we know now, it's clearly obviously intentional that they wanted to give a small hint to the players who were paying attention that this Aerith is different than the OG FF7 Aerith.
6:00 I honestly think that's why they're making Ever Crisis: it's the perfect excuse to reboot Genesis's design so that way he isn't tied to GAKT anymore
I like that idea actually. They could completely change Genesis' whole look and personality. Also, they could have his character actually mean something other than "The guy who won't shut up about Loveless" lol
Kingdom Hearts was a LOT of Disney big wigs twisting Nemura's arms to be fair. Please note He is NOT even the writer of this game, Nor original FF7. He does character design and combat stuff. The writer was Kitase. Kitase wanted to kill all the characters but 2 in original, but it's was NEMURA that talked him out of it. Nemura saved FF7. Everyone keeps falling for the false narrative that because Nemura worked on KH and then this game, then its his fault that they don't like the direction of the remake when it couldn't be further from the truth. Not only that but they told us this was the direction they were taking in the beginning. Everyone is blinded by nostalgia at this point. It's all the original staff and also new devs that understood FF7. Their is no better scenario than this for them to make sense of and celebrate the FF7 franchise. But I guess not everyone will be happy, and that's fine.

There was 1 scene that always stood out to me that Aerith knew the future and i've never anyone talking about it. In the sewers when cloud is crossing the makeshift bridge and Tifa questions "what if corneo was telling the truth". The look on Aerith's face says she knows its true and that it won't be stopped. Tifa even asks her what she's not telling.
I doubt this is going to happen now, but I was expecting Zack to go through early FF7 but he’d basically be NG+ Cloud out of the box, and walk all over moments where Cloud struggled. Now, I have no idea how they’ll use him lol
@@furious_malic7808 I don't see Zack as being nearly as acrobatic a fighter as Cloud. Cloud is small and slight , and he can't put the same amount of power into his swings as someone of Zack's build. So he uses speed and height to add force to a blow. Zack wouldn't need that, so I see him as being a more grounded fighter. Maybe with some martial arts moves thrown in because Angeal was his mentor and Angeal did fight barehanded sometimes.
I will laugh my ass off if Genesis ends up being Zack's Sephiroth in his timeline and you have to destroy both Genesis and Sephiroth and Genesis ends up being some sort of other half of Sephiroth or something like that.
Nah im sure genesis in zack's timeline will be a literal red herring. But with genesis's goals and wish complete (that of completing the ending to loveless and having sephiroth eat his dumb apple) Genesis is a blank slate now. His original goals were finished at the end of crisis core. So hopefully they can make him cool again
The situation seems to be more or less what I thought it was; Sephiroth and Aerith are time travelers, but in somewhat different ways. My theory is that Sephiroth has _physically_ traveled through time in some kind of post-AC form. His _physical_ presence is not supposed to be there, but he's so powerful that the whispers basically can't stop him, so they just try to correct for what he's screwing up. This means there are actually two Sephiroths in FF7R. The current one, trapped in Mako in the Northern Crater, and the future Sephiroth, fucking with Cloud and trying to gain control of fate itself. Aerith, on the other hand, has _spiritually_ traveled back in time via the Lifestream, and is inhabiting her old body, but with future memories. The Whispers keep attacking her because they know she's not supposed to have these memories, but they can't take all of them away so, again, they just try to keep things relatively on track. But now they are gone. So either Aerith, Sephiroth, or _both_ are now free to go off track and get into some wild shit.
I think Aerith technically has not time traveled, she just looked into the future. All of OG FF7 was an outcome she watched. That’s why the end of OG FF7 lines up with the beginning of Remake. She opens here eyes after seeing everything. Also, I think Cloud sees the future because of either touching Aerith, or Sephiroth’s cells somehow. The game made it clear that Advent Children is the “bad ending” so if Advent Children Sephiroth has traveled back in time, they should be able to stop him by making Advent Children never happen. Advent Children Sephiroth would not want to do anything that erases him until he completes his mission
@@Z3ROMyth I meant the timeline converges and they see Jessie who, as far as they are concerned, should be dead. This reminds me so much of the early "Are the Eva rebuilds a remake or a sequel" discussion, and how vehemently some fans argued against it, despite the mountain of evidence and fairly obvious ques throughout the rebuilds.
The difference is that Eva sequelists mainly theorized literally a rewind peggy sue loop ripped off from the Retake doujin and other countless fanfics centered on Shinji playing a New Game + just to get with Asuka this time and used as gospel a dumb collage someone posted in 4chan like 13 years ago, despite the movies having literal in-continuity explanations for the "evidence of peggy sue" It was more of a meta sequel with only Kaworu being the one keeping his consciousness through a cycle of eternal return through the multiverse and being the same guy in every Eva incarnation, and Shinji gaining some awareness of previous lives while in the anti universe (which feels like the embodiment of "meta" stuff, a place outside the Evaverse where the writers' creativity exists). The rebuild verse still feels parallel to the OG. That definitely inspired the FF7 remake, I'm pretty sure. Just like the OG game was inspired by the Eva TV show.
I never knew I wanted a sequel to Final Fantasy VII until I was playing through Final Fantasy VII Remake and it slowly dawned on me that I was playing a sequel. Normally I get really frustrated when time stuff happens in my favorite franchises (unless it's specifically about time travel) but this completely broke the mold for me. It felt so good to discover Max's videos after FF7 remake and realize I'm not crazy. And I LOVE how there's Bloodborne+ levels of lore to Final Fantasy VII now. We live in awesome videogame times.
I am absolutely pleased with everything going on with the story of FFVII remake. Ever since I was 12 years old I wanted an definite sequel to the main game. Childhood dreams are truly coming true.
The lifestream is explained perfectly well. There is a finite amount of what you could call 'soul power' in the world. It's the lifeblood of the planet. Without it the planet would die, so it is natural to the planet. It holds the memories and wills of the lives it has lived. It does not require an alternate world.
@@davidwilson6577 Lifestream literally acts as an afterlife. Aerith and Zack remain sentient after having returned to the planet, Aerith gain control of the lifestream, becoming able to affect the physical plane and both Zack and Aerith able to communicate with Cloud. It's pretty much a different plane of existence for those who died. You took the term alternate world too literal and completely failed to understand the context. So what are you on about?
@@zeroskaterz92 I don't know why the lifestream would have some kind of simulation of Gaia inside of it for the memories of past lives to hang out in, I can see that getting crowded. But it's not awful. It's not something that's needed to explain anything.
@@davidwilson6577 Now you're just not making any sense. You don't know why it happened and you don't need it to explain anything so I don't know why you even bother with my post in the first place.
Pretty much all we know about wherever Zack is is that Cloud is there too, which kind of rules out the afterlife theory at the first hurdle (unless you take another leap and say that that is just a memory of Cloud and he's not really there, but wow, that would be messy ~ in that case, anything is possible). I much prefer the idea of them just being two distinct different timelines, which is definitely complicated enough without throwing in any afterlife stuff.
Damn, this guy is just out here answering all the questions straight up. Love the interviewer being like, "hey can you tell me what the ending means? Is Jessie still alive? Just give me all the spoilers, plz."
When I first played ff7r, I was literally invested in every second of the story. I never played the og one. But I really enjoyed ff7r. I hope part 2 is as good as the first one or even better.
I’ve come to think that the “different timelines” we see may possibly be the real world where the main game takes place and the world where Zack, Biggs, Jessie etc are “alive” is actually taking place inside the Lifestream. We see Aerith and Zack both talking to Cloud “beyond the grave” in AC. To me it’s the only thing that negates the whole wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.
THAT'S exactly what came into my mind, especially because when Zack enters the church, it's completely white behind him like in AC. It says "different world" which could mean timeline. But I think it means the Lifestream, the stream of consciousness. In the regular ending, we see Zack carrying Cloud and passing the group. In the Intergrade ending, Cloud is nowhere to be seen even though Zack calls out to him. The church looks different with the wood detailing still there in the back unlike in the Remake where the wooden beams are missing. The wooden beams are present though in Crisis Core, FF7 OG, AND Advent Children, but not in FF7R. Something is up.
Some really great thoughts max! The areas that really trip me up with this ultimania, besides being generally really quite boring. Pointing out alot of obvious unexciting things. But the few that are pretty juicy really don't lead us onto any kind of consistent breadcrumb trail. There's time travel/future speak, but then theres talks about loss and players surviving in 'another world' (very lifestreamy based). To me I hope that this other world is the lifestream, but one corrupted and corporealized by Seph. I mean we've seen them setup lifestream environments that are indistinguishable from reality, aka the people in it dont even know when they are in it. And to me it suits much better that is where Jessie is. They teased Zack (stamp) working with Avalanche (moogle) in intermission and Im hoping Zack is essentially there to fight for the soul of the planet. A proxy where we get insight to those who have died but are still fighting for redemption, which Jessie was very key to portraying in MWTTP. And we get to see the corrupted state of the lifestream, all the while Cloud and co are fighting in the 'real' world. It ties nicer imo but if they have indeed just made an 'alt' timeline where those who died are actually still alive. It will still be amazing to see the 7 second decision of that fall to Cloud. Its a choice to save those who's deaths he has felt the guilt/burden of, versus accepting it and truly living with those who are with him now (dilly dally shilly shally). Its accepting the present/impermanence instead of being trapped by the past. Oddly accepting destiny despite breaking the wheel of it. It all works perfectly with Clouds character and the next evolution of his character arc. But introducing timeline or space/time lore to a game that has ample plot devices at its disposal, like the lifestream, seems the inferior route. Theres a million ways an alt lifestream could be happening & how Seph could have made it such. Theres zero I can think of for how he could make an alternate timeline/world or how those time elements would be reconciled by the end. Heres to hoping Square got their genius caps on ;)
Love your channel! Good thinking, but we've already seen flash forwards of future events, and fought versions of the 3 Advent Children from the future, so time shenanigans are pretty clearly in play already. I love the two distinct timelines idea so much ~ Really don't want this to end up being like the final season of 'Lost'. 'It was the afterlife all along' seems like about the same level of a copout ending to 'it was all a dream'... and why would the Stamp breed be different in the lifestream?
I'm hoping for the same that the other world is the Lifestream and we get to see the ones we've lost help Cloud and the others in their journey to save the planet. What really gets me is the church beams in Zack's cutscene. Those beams are not in FF7R, but they in CC, OG, and AC. Cloud and Aerith aren't present with Zack because they haven't died yet. We see Zack and Cloud in the first ending, yes, but in Intergrade Cloud is nowhere to be found and when Zack enters the church, it's completely white behind him which reminds me of AC.
@@DJChamber How is it a cop out when the Lifestream itself is a great plot device? To me, it seems lame to bring in a multiverse aspect when FF7's story and world is already pretty convoluted. The planet is alive and the Lifestream exists. Might as well use it and flesh it out more.
Honestly, here's what I would do: I would present the players with a choice. Basically, there is a way to save Aerith so she doesn't have to die. However, there's a cost to do so, and it's a deep one. And it's up to the players whether they pay that or not. Because for years and years and years, people have wanted a way to save Aerith, and this would basically be a test to see who is wants it the most and what are they prepared to sacrifice to get it.
Saving Aerith should trade another party member at the very least. Or make it a Nier situation where... [NIER SPOILERS] You trade your existence (and save file) for Kaine's life. Same for Aerith or something. Otherwise the game's story has no weight and all of the bad things don't matter cuz...time travel and fighting destiny and stuff.
That final line "ff7 remake isn't a description of what the game is, it's what's happening in the story" Literally gave me chills! It's like seeing colour for the first time all over again.
I think aerith is projecting the last of her memories and the memories of those entrusted to her in the lifestream to save everyone.. sacrifing the last thing she can her memories .... same with sephiroth
Exactly. I think there's enough benefit of the doubt that the writers know EXACTLY what they're doing with this project...and I honestly can't wait for more.
This MIGHT be a stretch but another thing that leans toward Aerith being some sort of spirit is when Chadley tries to scan her he gets confused and says something along the lines of "oh I can't seem to find you in my database". Chadley was created by Hojo which in turn would give him access to ALL of the R & D servers and databases that shinra has compiles over all the years. He can use those as resources to cross reference information/data which we can assume would include information about human anatomy. We know that Aerith literally LIVED in the shirna building with her mother and it would be safe to say they have "data" on both of them which Chadley would have access to. Aerith goes to the top of the plate from time to time to sell flowers. Getting to the top of the plate requires you to have an ID that is scanned to make sure you as a passenger are who you say you are. If there is a BODY on the train that gets scanned and doesn't have an ID or is the wrong ID for that person then the alarm goes off. If this Aerith is a spirit of some sort she would be able to bypass those scans no problem because the scanners are only looking for physical organic matter not spirits. The last thing that leads credence to this is Chadley was able to "scan" Yuffie, who isn't a midgar resident, never rode on the train(s), but IS human and not a spirit and her "results" of the scan qualified her as an "acceptable" candidate. This shows that a bare minimum Chadley has advanced knowledge of PHYSICAL bodies and can perform scans on them whether they reside in midgar or not. Oh and one more thing, these revelations max brought to the fore say that the whispers are trying to take away knowledge that she has, "every time the whispers touch me they take a piece of me". Like she's has knowledge that she shouldn't, cloud being a merc, who marlene is, sephiroth being alive (*close up of mouth* "oh......right"), Red13 saying that he gained knowledge of the whispers when Aerith touched him. This leans HEAVILY that as one person said "Aerith and Sephiroth are playing on new Game + and only acting like it's their first play through". The whispers knows this and are constantly trying to keep their mouths shut about things that the current cast knows nothing about. This is just my 0.02.
I think it’s so cool that Aerith has memories within her from the OG game. It’s like she has them available to her but can’t quite see them in the way we would our own past. Even she is still trying to figure out how and why she has these memories and what she can do with them.
OG FF7 events is like playing a game for the first time, Remake events is like playing a New Game + where the story hits different because you have prior knowledge, and are using that knowledge to correct mistakes made the first time
They don't have to make him likeable. They have to make him into a real character. I highly doubt anyone likes f.e. President Shinra, or Heideggar, but they are almost like real people, they have a deep character, they sound like real people, etc... I liked Genesis in Crisis Core, but I can't argue with that that he was a parody of a villain and has at most a 2D character. If they can make him into a real character with not-crazy-souding dialogues, with legitimate reasons and clear motivitions then I would be happy as hell.
I think the devs see FFVII-R as already a different reality/universe from FFVII-Prime, which would be the original game. It's almost the same, but slightly different and that crazy battle at the end of the Remake is just the characters breaking time and creating all those different versions of reality in the first place. Aerith is probably capable of having memories from the other realities, namely, the Prime reality. Don't expect Remake Aerith to even die. She probably won't because her Prime-self has already give her the memory of how she died in the Prime timeline.
I thought it was obvious after playing that Aerith knows what’s supposed to happen. But they’re pushing into a world not bound by fate. That’s what killing the plot ghosts did. It gave Sephiroth a chance to succeed but it’s also given Cloud a chance to save Aerith. This is reinforced by Aerith’s comments about the open sky and how it scares her. Yes it could be literal but is more likely metaphorical. They could end up not saving the world this time and that’s frightening.
@@celineosthaus8032 In crisis core she says that she was scared of the sky because she lived her life under the plate for all her life, here instead she says "I hate the sky", because is the same sky that took Zack away...the ending is an evident reference to that. That moment was reminding her of him, otherwise that ending doesn't make sense.
@@laurajanco2i How would she know that he died there? She has no idea. Aerith doesn't like the open sky, which has been established in the Remake itself. Not everything Aerith does is tied to Zack. CC may be a prequel, but it came out after OG. In the Intergrade ending she mentions again about needing a roof (the steel sky) and Cloud asks if she's okay because she told him how the open sky scared her. It's just Aerith being Aerith and finally leaving Midgar.
Intermission ending could also mean that Aerith is an entirely different person, one who doesn't recognize Jack or cloud, one who doesn't visit the curch, one who doesn't help anyone in the slums. This could prompt Zack to start looking onto whats going on. And he probably could be a Whisper that we have defeated trying so hard to reset everything. While we are swatting them like flies
Then don't use the Remake word. Could have just done with 7-II and no one will fault them for it or better yet leave out the Remake and just name it FF7.

"Aerith has a lot of different memories residing within her"
They literally just confirmed what we all thought: the Aerith we see in Remake is likely the same Aerith from the original, with all the memories and knowledge of what happened before.
Nah this is kingdom hearts territory now, everyone will survive and brought back to life.
To save the planet I think we have to choose to kill Aerith ourselves and i think Zack will also be witness to this
This is totally left field, but reminds me of Sora NOT having his memories of Chain of Memories but the only game he has been able to use Holy, might be irrelevant but theres alot of story analysis on the Kingdom Hearts side of Square Enix too, where alternate timelines or realities are a thing.
Many things was lost in localisation, but in the original language, it screams that Seph has future knowledge.)
So before complaining about time travel, the fact of time travel should be confirmed - and it is not. They have knowledge, and that can be gathered in a various form. Yes, time travel is one, but not the only one. Clairvoyancy, lifestream stuff, memories sent back in time or through lifestream...
And by the way, there is time materia in the game, which means messing with time is possible.

There is no chance Nero doesn't come back. That setup with him possibly using a Sonon corpse puppet was way too big.
I will say Nero was the FF7comp character i disliked the most and I thought he worked well in the dlc so I am fine with it.
He was pretty savage in the DLC. I dig it
I figured as much when the Yuffie Mission first dropped.

My biggest "want" is that if Zack is playable, is that he plays differently than Cloud.

I agree. If he’s ever playable in the remake, he has to play differently than cloud.
Loveless 2.0 Boiz!

Or she didn't die in Cloud's timeliness, because we saw her handband and gloves with Biggs when he woke up at the end of the game.
@@Z3ROMyth I meant the timeline converges and they see Jessie who, as far as they are concerned, should be dead. However, this isn't the Jessie that we knew that may or may not have survived, but is instead a Jessie from a timeline where her father never fell into the Mako and so she never joined Avalanche.
This reminds me so much of the early "Are the Eva rebuilds a remake or a sequel" discussion, and how vehemently some fans argued against it, despite the mountain of evidence and fairly obvious ques throughout the rebuilds.
The difference is that Eva sequelists mainly theorized literally a rewind peggy sue loop ripped off from the Retake doujin and other countless fanfics centered on Shinji playing a New Game + just to get with Asuka this time and used as gospel a dumb collage someone posted in 4chan like 13 years ago, despite the movies having literal in-continuity explanations for the "evidence of peggy sue"
It was more of a meta sequel with only Kaworu being the one keeping his consciousness through a cycle of eternal return through the multiverse and being the same guy in every Eva incarnation, and Shinji gaining some awareness of previous lives while in the anti universe (which feels like the embodiment of "meta" stuff, a place outside the Evaverse where the writers' creativity exists). The rebuild verse still feels parallel to the OG.
That definitely inspired the FF7 remake, I'm pretty sure. Just like the OG game was inspired by the Eva TV show.

The "alternate timeline" could very well explain the existence of Lifestream itself. A reality where the dead lives.

Heres to hoping Square got their genius caps on ;)
Pez! What is this, a crossover episode?
Pez!
We're heading into LEVEL 6 territory now.
I’d give up all my maxed out materia and play the rest of the game with just abilities if I had to.
Saving Aerith should trade another party member at the very least. Or make it a Nier situation where...
[NIER SPOILERS]
You trade your existence (and save file) for Kaine's life. Same for Aerith or something.

This is why I hesitate to call something a "plot hole" until the story concludes.
I TRULY hate when people do this.
Exactly. I think there's enough benefit of the doubt that the writers know EXACTLY what they're doing with this project...and I honestly can't wait for more.
It's like saying Fellowship of the Ring has ton of plotholes without watching/reading Two Towers and Return of the King.
This is just my 0.02.
ohh inreresting. wait, when did Chadley try to scan Aerith. (never had that scene)

While the themes of the original FF7 were about grief and loss, I think the remake is much more going to be about overcoming the cycle of abuse.

This is like Twin Peaks season 3 man
Oh and I told my friends that FF7R is just Aerith's new game plus run
basically
So Sephiroth is a Loki variant?

@@laurajanco2i It was not just a reference to Zack, in the Ultimania it was explained why she hates the sky. I already explained it above.
