I was barely 9 years old when i was watching these westerns, bonanza, high chaparral, etc. They (the actors) all looked the same to me but enjoyed them immensely, anyway. It was also my training ground in learning english at an early age. They just bring back a lot of happy childhood memories watching them again. Pleasantly surprised to see Pernell Roberts in this episode.
Many thanks to Lionel Newman and Jerome Moros for impressive theme title, back in 1968 I was only nine years old and Lancer was one of my favourite Western shows and still is.
Another great performance by Pernell Roberts/Adam from Bonanza. Bonanza was not the same without him. His presence in any scene is a bonus to the story.
You are so right about PR's extraordinary talent. I recently saw an interview David Dortort gave to the TV Academy years later where he admitted he made a mistake by not accommodating PR's desire to do other things. A few "cutouts" and he might have retained him.
The "nurse", is gonna command a Romulan Starship someday. 25:00, the splinter; took me back 83 years to my cousin and I (4YO) sliding down our celler door. He got a 3" splinter in his left cheek and they were rushing hi to Dr Cross., the jolting of the car somehow worked it out far enuf that his dad pulled it the rest of the way. Ron was mad at me for a long time after.
If you sharp eyed you will spot Joanne Linville form Star Trek and the Invaders.many of the actors who started in westerns( Like Nimoy and Deforst Kerlly) ended up doing Sci-fi and tv and detective movies in the 70s.
I grew up on episodic TV, my favorites being westerns and Sci-fi. I watched tons of Bonanza and the Big Valley, some High Chaparral, and the others I knew about and occasionally watched. When I saw "Once upon a time in Hollywood", I thought "Lancer" was fictional. I had never heard of it, never saw it. I would pour over the TV Guide when we got it, I don't remember any listings of it. It was on two years, not like it was a 3 month cancelled deal. It's like an alternate reality....
Elizabeth Bauer was the daughter of a casting director, who didn't want her going into show business! Too bad they didn't feature her more often in "Lancer." This episode was an interesting version of a plot that was basically also used to good effect in "The High Chaparral," "The Big Valley," "Bonanza," and "Gunsmoke." I just hated that stupid moustache spoiling Pernell Roberts' good looks!
If I hadn't read one of the comments that mentioned Richard Carlson being in this episode, I might have missed him in the role he played....Thanks, Nicole Lockney, for mentioning him.
Roberts is tops. N case yall haven't noticed Hollywood wasn't as full then as now. Even Jenny played on bonanza. The great Steve Margaret did also. They recycled them like the tin cans most of them are. Roberts although 1 of my favorites tried his best to get above rural GA rearing just couldn't. He loved the stage but it didn't so much him. Plus Hollywood frowned on white neuro couples on the air
I heard once that Lancer was Elizabeth's first show (or one of the early ones) and she got the part because she was related or connected to someone with some influence behind the scenes. She wasn't a known actress at the time, and I expect that is why she is listed at the end and not in the opening credits. Happy to be proven wrong if someone knows something more definite.
@@margaretp1465 James Stacy once said in an interview, "Elizabeth Baur was the casting director's daughter." He didn't elaborate further... so I did some digging for more info. 😉 Wikipedia states that Elizabeth's father, Jack Baur, was a veteran casting director for 20th Century Fox (something her IMDb bio completely fails to mention, interestingly enough). 20th Century Fox Television was, of course, Lancer's production company. Jack Baur's Wikipedia page confirms that he was a casting director with a lengthy resumé at 20th Century Fox, but there's a large gap in his credits between the years of 1952 and 1972. However, I did find some newspaper articles that back up the fact that her father was a casting director at 20th Century Fox in the mid-1960s when Elizabeth began to pursue acting there, but she claims he did not help her to get any acting jobs. Beyond arranging an audition with a famous drama teacher and paying for a beginner summer acting "training class," that is. The first article claims he "objected" to her becoming an actress due to his position, but it doesn't sound like he objected terribly loudly...! According to article #2, it looks like she had a pret-ty cushy upbringing in LA. Still lived at home with Mom & Dad while doing Lancer ... golfing ... did no cooking or cleaning. I will refrain from editorializing but ... I wonder if her upbringing had anything at all to do with Quentin Tarantino changing Teresa into 10-year-old Marabella in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood? I'd love to know his reasoning behind that choice! Joanne Linville, long before she made *"Vulcan Science Officers," totally forget their LOGIC!* (And a certain Federation Starfleet Captain 'defect' to the Romulan Empire!)
Paul Brinegar (Jelly) was best known as Wishbone, the drovers' cook on Rawhide, which ran much longer than Lancer. Good humorous performances in both shows.
Two great actors Pernell Roberts and Richard Carlson in the same episode and didnt have any scenes together despite the fact that their storylune intermingles.Carlson had also appeared on Bonanza but sadly it was in 1968 after Roberts departure from the Ponderosa.
How can this wonderful series, with their compelling stories last only two seasons? Somebody made a big boo-boo! Thank you so much for the uploads.

Even though theses actors are deceased now but their acting legacy shall live on forever 🙏
Lancer will never be forgotten!!!!
The only one who's still alive is the actor who played Scotty.

Qué desaprovechado fue en Bonanza!! Simplemente en este capítulo tiene más diálogo y más matices que en 10 capitulos de bonanza
I read that Lorne Greene tried to get him to stay, telling Pernell that he could make enough money to "buy the damn studio."
The Lancers plus Adam Cartwright to boot.

She did several episodes of Hawaii5-O as well, in clouding the one with Mcgarrett's sister, where we see him cry.

And Andrew Dugan was on Bonanza too.
I'm gonna see if I can pay my doctor with some baloney.
that a good one
Pernell Roberts was for me the best in that series.
Why didn't they *include Elizabeth Bauer* in the opening credits? She 'was' *part of the central cast,* wasn't she?

Looks like Wishbone got mauled real bad. Mr. Favor is gonna be sad.

Ironically bonanza had an episode where deforest Kelly was a doctor in jail and Ben needed him to get out to save hoss.
I’m here for Richard Carlson!
Wishbone from rawhide
Why is Mr. Abbot wearing a 21st C. jacket and tie?
He's not. The show was made in the 20th Century.
What season was this??
As I say above Season 2, Episode 8.
Thank you ! Some are not numbered on You Tube
Wishbone??
Paul Brinegar (Jelly) was best known as Wishbone, the drovers' cook on Rawhide, which ran much longer than Lancer. Good humorous performances in both shows.
Tem que ser dublado. Não falo e nem entendo. Por favor.
all dead he was last
I did not care for this episode, lol I just see Adam from Bonanza not a doctor, and no Johnny lol !
