I didnt know sandy for drums, I knew him in his last few years as a friend, spending many of my lunch breaks with him. I worked at the hardware store in boulder city, with the little mediocre breakfast spot across the street. I moved out of town the day after his service. That town paints itself like it was his caretakers, but its people ate him alive. Most shops shooing him out 'politely' so noone had to deal with him. But sandy was a gentle man to the end. Ornery as hell, and frustrated as his body failed him. Being helpless ate at him, but even that aside, he kept good spirits, down to his last day. I still have his last cd, he gifted it to me. I think its time it was played. Rest in peace, sandy.
I work and played in a band with Sandy’s cousin. Unfortunately, he passed away before I met her. I’m also a drummer. She told me he was one of Keith Moon’s heroes.
BTW that second clip is not from 2015 but from 1999. The whole track is allready on youtube, they start playing Pipeline but later left Sandy do the drum solo. Then they come back.
Does anyone know what movie where Sandy Nelson make magic with his drums belongs to? I looked for in the web and nothing found... Thanks a lot for this video! Greetings from Argentina!❤
You’re most welcome my friend! Greetings from UK! Sadly this is the only footage of Sandy “playing” (miming of course) in his prime. If you’re looking for other rare tracks with Sandy on drums, have a listen to The Goose by Don Markham and The Marksmen and Goochy Bamba by Richie Allen.

The old geezer is better now than in the early days. Fantastic.

The clip is from the movie “Wild on the Beach”. There is a soundtrack LP that includes the full version of the tune, which is called Drum Dance.

No need to play a zillion unnecessary notes at hyper speed. He's showing us how its done.
