      They did that in Arkhamverse too. After Joker died in Arkham City, Gordon and Batman instantly agreed upon to cremate Joker's corpse to make sure he doesn’t come back in some way.

    • @MrJakePaddy
      @MrJakePaddy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      The main reason Batman never killed Joker or allowed anyone else to was because Joker represented the worst of Gotham. Batman was always scared that with Jokers death, Gotham would throw up something worse than the Joker, something Batman wouldn't be able to stop.

    • @jw8219
      @jw8219 4 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      That isn't the reason why, if you could kill the joker you could kill anyone. If batman believes he is justified in taking human life he could rightly say anyone who crosses a certain line has to suffer the same consequences. Inevitably he kill another "joker" who pushes the line, and then another, until he starts killing people who are close to breaching that line, and then anyone who gets him angry ultimately becoming a real vigilante. He wouldn't be a Superhero anymore he would just be some criminal who killed people who displeased him, and carried his own personal vengeance out

    • @tatersalad76
      @tatersalad76 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@jw8219 Cool paragraph there. But that's not at all what I'm saying here. If Gordon shot and killed Joker, Batman would be angry for the first month. But he would get over it because the Joker isn't running around committing mass murder every Friday night

      @MrJakePaddy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    • @MrJakePaddy
      @MrJakePaddy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@jw8219 also Batman isn't a superhero, dudes got no powers (even if he is recognised as a metahuman). He's definitely a vigilante, just an accepted one. And the whole point of him becoming Batman was because of vengeance, it's a big theme in his arc.
      And you can't exactly put a maniac like the Joker who has hurt multiple people in Batmans life and killed thousands of others in the same category as everyone else. The Joker is a special kind of sick and twisted that is barely rivalled by others.

    I think the takeaway here is that everyone's still recovering from what the Joker did to them: Barbara's being consoled but still processing the events (though she'll eventually come to terms that he's dead for good).Grayson is melancholy and trying to think how Bruce would react. Lex is probably thinking "Good riddance" and nothing else. Harleen is probably feeling pity, since she 'thinks' that he could have been cured.
    Jason is, without a doubt, a good person for doing this. But the shit Joker did to everyone? That's not gonna just wash off once he's dead.
    Edit: I forgot to mention Gordon, who probably wanted Joker to go through due process. He's probably just disappointed the Joker never faced justice, or reminded that batman's gone.
    Joker's last moments was looking on in shock, realizing that this was it: His last act, his curtain call. There wasn't an encore, and this wasn't the batman. This was the boy who he traumatized, come back to exact revenge.

      I'm going out on a limb here but I think the joker not smiling while dead was because he possibly didn't expect it. As for why they're all sad, it's possible that it was because they feel like they've lost Jason again (for the BatFam), lost a lover (for Harleen Quinzel). For Lex Luthor, I am honestly at a loss. Maybe he was supposed to seem more shocked than sad.

    I get morals and having a code to live by but the message that comics like Batman send that if you kill one person, even in self-defense, then you are beyond saving just doesn't sound right to me. It's pretty much saying that soldiers, or anyone serving in the line of duty or just defending themselves, are terrible people.
    Jason killing anyone remotely bad is a terrible thing, because there are people who can be better if just given the chance and because life itself is precious. But killing someone like the Joker, who has proven won't change for the better and is a very dangerous, doesn't make Jason beyond saving. I'm not saying that killing someone in cold blood is right, nor should one seek to kill, but if someone like the Joker is trying to kill you then he should be put down.

      I agree. I think it's more some because it's them doing the killing. They don't have powers but let's be real they are superhuman in comparison to regular ppl. I think they fear it can become a habit. like after joker might as well kill scarecrow, riddler etc, honestly they probably could kill the roster in one night. I mean I think it would better that way but to a point I see it but they stretch it too far sometimes. With Superman naw 😂 don't even let him kill a fly nobody got time to deal with his ass.

    • @coltonwilliams4153

      I always thought that it was because vigilantes can’t be the judge jury executioners. Everyone blames Batman for not killing Joker, but what about the ones who’s jobs it actually is to punish Joker. The vigilantes just act as an extension of the police who happen to work outside of the law, and because they’re outside of the law, they have limits on how far they can go. Everything else needs to be left to the legal system. The courts should’ve executed him ages ago, but because he’s been labeled criminally insane (which may or may not simply be something that he fooled them into believing just so he won’t get the death penalty), he’s put in Arkham. That’s a failure on the court system. Not on Batman. Bruce is stuck cleaning up their mess over and over again, without being able to finish it permanently, both because of his personal code, and the fact that vigilantes like him are only tolerated so long as they don’t kill.

    • @tjjordan4207
      @tjjordan4207 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@coltonwilliams4153 On that I agree. The people in charge should have more than enough to put the Joker on Death Row. Or hell, the police probably have had more than enough encounters to justifiably kill the Joker. Batman not killing is part of who he is and vigilantes shouldn't kill just because they feel like it.
      What I was saying was that I don't like how Batman has this belief that killing in any sort of way (like self-defense or in the line of duty) makes someone terrible.

    • @coltonwilliams4153
      @coltonwilliams4153 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tjjordan4207 That’s likely part of his own trauma and him thinking about the people who care for those he might kill. His entire world was shattered by his parents’ deaths, to the point where some would say that Bruce Wayne also died in that alley. He doesn’t want to put anyone through that pain.

    • @meyearsago-lc8bq
      @meyearsago-lc8bq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly, all the drama is created by one thing: total inability of the judicial system to deal with a threat. Supervillains were handed over to the government over and over again, literally millions were spent to hold a bunch of freaks in their cells forever, which didn't achieve a thing. They were leaving and making a fuss again.
      Batman and other heroes are tormented with responsibility, lose the loved ones and get countless injuries, putting their faith into the system that will judge villains appropriately, but they aren't.
      What would happen in the real world: the law would be complemented with the paragraphs about “superpeople status”, describing supervillains as a threat that realistically can't be dealt with by normal measures. That would make giving a death sentence to confirmed superpeople, who occured this status from Supreme Court by a special procedure probably, easier and quicker. Supervillains being confirmed mass murderers with tons of witnesses should help. Probably Gotham could get a martial law, because it's literal war on the streets, with enormous casualties and infrastructure damage. That would let the military kill Joker and others on sight.
      And so, the problem is solved. Batman and others don't want to pose as vigilantes, because the judicial system knows better how to handle criminals. Well, wonderful. Let this system take action and get rid of literal national level threat.

    He’s an individual that has gone far past redemption or recovery. Killing him would’ve saved thousands and thousands of life.
    I kinda like the modern explanation to why Batman doesn’t kill him (cause apparently Batman is just as crazy and that would lead to him unavoidably killing others if he got triggered by one execution).
    But overall, Batman should’ve killed the Joker long ago.

Barbara cries out in joy that he is gone and can’t cause any further harm to her or anyone else she cares about. Out of honesty, The Joker should have been killed the first chance anyone got to do it. The amount of lives it would have saved in killing him rather than letting him live. Due to the Batman’s one rule of not killing, it was enabling criminals to kill whenever they would escape and go on the loose again. Thanks for uploading.
