This line is so schizophrenic in its design ethos. One the one hand you have figures like Bazooka who's basically a note-for-note recreation of the original figure, and on the other, you have figures like Airborne or Rock 'n Roll who get saddled with a bunch of design changes intended to "modernize" them to the extent that they then have to go back and release "retro" versions of the same figures.
You are not wrong with that assessment. I think you can put that down to them changing course at different times due to collector feedback, as well as them having more budget funds to play with as the popularity of the line grew.
@@SharkEyesToyView I'm sure that that's part of it but I wonder if there isn't also some kind of internal conflict on the design team with someone trying to retain elements of the aesthetic from the G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout game (which the first few waves of figures were the product of) and others pushing back for a more purely vintage look. I'm not sure how else to explain why the silly "Joe-Pro" device that every single Joe in the first few waves (except Snake Eyes) had sculpted onto his gear somewhere keeps coming back like some kind of rash on every third or fourth figure...
They did the first beachhead dirty with that nerf gun.
and the arnour around his ankles that make the joint useless.

Yeah brother it's a bit clunky. It's also well time for removable vests for crying out loud.
Hopefully we get a Resolute version eventually...
it's a definite improvement on the vest from the first figure.

I missed ol' Bitch Head first time because I wasn't really into the line then. I might prefer the more muted/faded green color on the old one, but am still looking forward to getting the retro one at least so I can complete my lineup of Joe "bosses" 😄 Great to see a new vid from ya, Sharky. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
From a purist Joe collector standpoint, he's essential. The good thing now is, we have two versions, two mission options. Hopefully the next one they lean into his PoC version, that's a fave of mine. Thanks as always, mate. It's always nice to have new shiny things to talk about haha.
@@SharkEyesToyView the Pursuit of Cobra Beachhead figure is one of my favorite Beachhead figures as he looks bad ass and geared up for anything and if we ever get that look for Beachhead in Classified, I sure as well would give him the 1:12 scale AA-12 Shotgun as I display my Pursuit of Cobra Beachhead figure with the 1:18 scale AA-12 Shotgun from Marauders Gun Runners.

Haha I can put that down to a couple of things. Firstly, doing the review after a 10 hour work and the digesting of my dinner lol. Secondly, I can't get overly jazzed about something that is essentially a carbon copy. I love how you noticed that though lol
The square suppressor is more modern appropriate 👌🏻
The reuse, when you think about it, is more realistic. Commando types (Snake Eyes, Stalker, Beach Head, etc) and soldiers (Grunt, Steel Brigade, Vipers) would all have standard loadouts so satchel charges, grenades, knives and so on should match with the exception of personalized color choices.
Yep that is a very realistic way of looking at it.

Good review! I can’t wait to get mine here. I don’t really like the first Classified Beach Head and so I was so excited when they announced they were making the Retro version since he’s one of my very favorite original Joes. I just really, really like the color scheme better on the Retro version but I agree with you, I don’t love the gun he came with, they could’ve done better for sure on that. I like his other accessories though.

I think Beachhead is in my top 4 G.I. Joe characters. Pre-ordered him, can't wait to get him.
This figure is such a huge improvement over Classified #10 it's almost funny, but that said, I do have a few "if I ruled the world" nitpicks: 1 - better-scaled primary weapon; 2 - new headsculpt (nothing inherently wrong with the current one but it's a little on the small side by the current standards of the line and the original BH figure was known for having a pretty sizeable noggin); 3 - swap the lower legs and feet with Airborne to replicate the look of how the original figure had his trousers bloused over his boots at almost ankle-level (not a huge issue, since the original card artwork depicted a more normal boot-to-trouser ratio).
Some quality suggestions presented there. Well said and thanks for checking out the video.
That pistol comes with Sgt. Stalker for sure. The suppressor is a silencerCo Osprey .45 suppressor. A very unique one in my opinion with the rectangular look.

The one thing holding me back on this figure...
Effin green firearms. That shit passed when I was 12yrs old.
In order to prevent any shelf dives, some figures in the line really require a stand. As for the green weapons, yeah it's just not needed.

Like I said in the video, we've sure come a long way in 3 or so years.
Odd they did his magazines in the classic gray, but still did the weapon in green...
Agreed that was an odd decision. A full grey weapon would add some contrast to the figure... like the original did.
I've been waiting for this version since the retro style figures got made. The Beachhead we got was only ok and if it wasn't him, would never have bought him. Pre-ordered 2 retro versions as soon as they came out. I do wish he could have come with an unmasked head or with it rolled up on his head like you got to see small clips of in his initial show appearances. Did I mention he was my favorite Joe? lol
Edit: the suppressor is from an actual suppressor brand called Osprey and yes it is that ugly, boxy shape in real life too.
I don't have a Beach Head yet, but he's growing on me. I did order this new one though.

Thank you for the review. I'm still not going to get the retro Beach Head, since I have the original one, but this helped me clear up my decision. It's a nice figure for sure, but I'm not enough of a Beach Head fan to want two of them. I'm glad that it seems that the head was reused.

some have warped a bit, nothing too bad, I can t say it s an issue
also, reuse, I like uniforms... I loooved the 82 reuse, it makes them look like a team to me
hey, if it makes them cheaper in Canada $33 - 45 + tax I m all for it.
if they just stop making lines about tv series, sw, marvel movies, they ll lose less money
and then maybe they can drop prices to affordable here.

Considering the hell I went through the first time around for Cobra Island Beach Head I'm ready for an easier go.

me and my husband hated the way some of the Gi Joe classified received unrealistic nerf guns rather than real world military weapons. Thank Valaverse for the weapons kits of course i like the female sculptures of Gi Joe classified. I just don’t see valaverse females as feminine enough

Bless ya, mate. Yeah it's easy to get why they do what they do with the re-use, but it does leave one a little underwhelmed. At least get his primary weapon right.
Retro Beach Head design matches up with the original action. The cobra island version looks so odd especially those shin guard and clutter armor and god awful nerf guns he comes with. The retro Beach Head figure is a lot better IMO. I only wished that the designers of retro versions painted his Submachine gun and knife handle black instead of the "fake" toy green color.
Being a retro, they should have gone with the traditional grey paint deco for his SMG.
Does this Beachhead Retro decrease the value of the Cobra Island Beachhead?
Good question. If anything, I dare say it increases it. Simply because that's the first in the line and also due to the somewhat scarce nature of that release. With that said, how widespread this new release will be will be interesting to watch.
I like the new one, the old one is way too expensive, and with pins.

You can clip the grenades to the strap on the satchel charge.
Ahhhh that makes sense, not practical for outdoor photography tho haha

If you have Airborne you could swap out the smg he comes with and give it to Beach Head to make it accurate. You've got to swap the Crimson Guards Rifle to Airborne to make that more accurate.

Mine comes Friday I cannot wait. Definitely my fav Joe of all time. I remember the first one at target came out and there was 4 of them at my target and i was the 3rd guy in line 😅

They could have picked that lighter brown so they can pick a different shade for other future repaints.
The Tiger Force Beachhead has quite dark trouser
Version 4.5.7.9 & 10 all have quite a light brown though.
1,11,12,14 & are darker and
The 2014 Version 17 seems the closest to the Retro Classified one.
Though deco wise this new one does have the camo painted on the knees unlike Version 17.
Version 17 is kinda nice though as he also has climbing gear which is a nice addition to the design.
Version 6 (Nightforce) is quite nice too I also really like the version 13 one which is a mostly black one with green gear and green pants I can see us getting Night Force or Tigerforce before lone for this guy though I like when they tinker with the design on he Night Force releases I think it adds visual interest.
So if they gave Night Force Beachhead some of Alpine's climbing gear that would be cool.

Lovely figure. Crazy thing is that while the secondary does restrict, I bet without those two giant pockets on the belt you could get better than expected range. I would've liked to see those either moved, smaller, or omitted to prevent that issue wile remaining mostly true to the OG. And also, with you -- first Classified Beachhead was awesome.
That's likely a very accurate assessment. You know what else would be cool? Removable vests.

Great review! I have mixed feelings either way this figure. Probably my favorite in the o ring days. But I have found that my fav o rings have not given me the “feels” when they have done the retro classified version of same figure.
I am still looking forward to getting him in hand though

Hey Bryan, thanks for the kind words. I completely see where you're coming from and I think it's somewhat because we know what we're getting pretty much. So when we bust a retro open, it's kind of anti-climatic. There are a couple of exceptions, Scarlett is a vast improvement over her v1 for example.
