These Elliott Smith covers are truly beautiful and inspired. Great performances all around and impressive work on the guitar parts. I've been playing a lot of these tunes for years and there's always something to improve to get closer to what Elliott was able to pull off at his best. You're right on with these performances. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for all your kind words. I will definitely be working on them for years to come. TH-cam is a nice way to document my progress and share the music I love with others.
Elliott is my absolute favorite and your covers are just perfect! Well done, and I hope to see more. I’m probably going to use your videos to learn how to play some of these lol
My main acoustic guitar is a Martin D10e also. But I got the Sitka Spruce top because ive mostly played all mahogany guitars for years and I thought it would be nice to get a spruce top acoustic for a change. I absolutely love it. I actually prefer the Sapele grain pattern over mahogany grain patterns. The Sapele is just really nice and uniform and its dark grain pattern is very aesthetically pleasing. Im sure i would have been just as happy with the all Sapele version but i really love the balanced lows and highs of the sitka top for songs like this. The mahogany acoustics ive owned over the years are nice and loud with a more prominent mid range that works great in a band setting but isolated with just vocals i think the sitka top pairs slightly better. But again both are fantastic and if I had the money id buy the all Sapele version also in a heartbeat. And great cover, this is such a satisfying song to play but im still working out some of the variaions and singing while playing the chorus so this video has helped me work it out a little further. So thanks for posting!
So cool to hear your thoughts. I bought this guitar a couple of years ago and I didn’t know a ton about tonewood. It was a MASSIVE upgrade from my entry level fender acoustic and anything at this price point felt incredible to me. I love the guitar so much. I recently tried a d-18 for the first time and it was the most unbelievable instrument I’ve ever seen or heard. I’m determined to get my hands on one someday. It might take selling this one to afford it though
@@maxthomson11 That's exactly how I feel about the D18. Nothing feels or sounds like it. Some D18 inspired copy's get close but there's nothing quite like the real thing. Heres to hoping we both getting our D18's sooner rather than later lol!
Really amazing playing! I listened to your cover right after the original and you do it justice. What is the strumming hand technique? Is it a combination of slapping the bass notes and strumming with the index finger?
@@MichaelGoolishian yeah that’s essentially it. Since making this video I’ve learnt not to slap the bass notes quite as hard. I think it works better if it’s more subtle. Thanks for the comment
@@maxthomson11youre welcome. sure hes the mastermind behind the songs but your gentle voice with the gentle playing fits them so well👍 very nice tribute
