- Here's the Ultimate Gateron Smoothie Linear Switch Sound Test and Review. I conducted detailed sound tests with GMK, MT3, and SA keycaps, comparing it with other popular switches in a controlled environment to provide a clear understanding of its acoustic profile on a full mechanical keyboard. In this video, I explore the switch's design, performance, and unique features.

The tests for this Gateron Smoothie Sound Test were conducted using an FR4 plate on a DZ60 board with Tofu60 aluminum case. During the tests, I performed a typing test and a slow bottom-out test to showcase the switch's sound and feel. I also conducted a decibel meter test to measure the switch's noise level with and without a keycap.

I have the Silver, and they are my endgame switch! Super smooth out of the box, amazing sound while still being quite quiet, and outstanding RGB. Genuinely, linears don't get much better than this.
Just ordered the silver, cant wait to try these!
I got the Smoothies first and loved them, I got 110 for only 18 on an early bird kinda thing and they are just unfathomably good for that price of 16c each. I wanted slightly shorter travel/actuation to make them a gaming switch and they answered me with the Silvers. For some reason though they actually sound notably different, with the originals being better IMO, same overall feel and quality though. The bottom-out has such a clear loud punch, that they sound amazing on fully foamed soft boards... it eats up all the board echo and such, leaving only the super clean ceramic/glass-like taps, it's so satisfying and is genuinely similar to some highly optimized foamless clack builds I've heard, but in much cheaper boards (Alu Cidoo, Galaxy80, Hi75, etc), with way less effort.
I had a problem with both sets however where the lube on the stem's pole would leak down and get under the tip which ruins the amazing bottom-out feel/sound. It's easy enough to open them up and clean the hole and the tip of the pole to fix it, but it's annoying they can't just be run stock as they are so good initially before the lube leaks down. I had that happen on an HMX switch as well, but not to the same degree and it was only one switch while it was pretty routine with the smoothies. Newer smoothie batches may have fixed this as I've heard people say they haven't noticed it, but I can't entirely confirm so I would only recommend them if someone is comfortable with opening and fixing them if it happens, as they feel and sound radically different if it happens and you don't fix em.
Thanks for sharing this!! Interesting.. i ordered the Smoothie Silver, can't wait to compare...!
I recently ordered a linear switch tester with a few picks and had 2 options to fill out the order, randomly selected this as I've never heard of it and I'm telling you it's insane what you get at this price point. Now fully built keyboard with those 🥛🤝
These are amazing!
You make it look so freaking satisfying, your editing skills are incredible
Thanks!! :)
Thank you for the review. I was convinced this was a good switch before this video was made. I'm so happy
My pleasure!
I’ve been eyeing these since “smooth” is literally in the name. Good to know that these are in fact smooth!’
They are!
Damn, it really lives up to its namesake. Very smooth and creamy. Love it.
Yeah, the name suit them well!
My top switch of the year so far, even having tried many HMX.
With o-rings they are more silent than my peach silents. crazy!
interesting!
Just got these, have to say these sound and feel amazing. By far my favorite linear switch now. Really good switches and good price...
Great to hear!
yes finally been asking for this review, with orings they are more silent than peach silents!
I'm not a fan of o-ring... But it's been a while since I've tried some, should give it a try again sometime..!
resprung smoothies are tippy top linear switches
they also made me realize i ultimately hate linears and would rather stick to anything even slightly tactile, but theyre amazing as far as linears are concerned.
Yeah some person hate linear switches and it's perfectly fine! :) But for lienar switches they are awesome!
Wowie, they sound like a tape-modded keyboard without the tape modding.
:P
This has been the smoothest switches I've tried before getting introduced with HMX.
nahh hmx sucks =)) only hmx xinhai are good enough, most of hmx switches are slightly similar. The housing and stem isn't so smooth on HMX switches, u can wipe out the lube and try for more experiences. The only thing's good is that the amount of prelube, but in some case is overlube
:)
wow you are goated 🥺
Thank you! :)
Very smooth and creamy switches, the prelube is nice and the smoothness on the stem and housing are very nice. Stem is little bit wobble but it's still OK while it doesnt make the sound and typing experience worse
Glad you like it!
[sees the Smoothie on the high end of the "smoothness" chart] I'm not sure what I expected...
You do not agree? :P
I hope you can try out some Flower Shadow switches! They're supposed to be one of the outmost smoothest switches out there since it's a full LY switch.
Will see if that possible.
Legit bought them last week haha. They are amazing and sound great for the money. I prefer the sound and feel of them over my Oil King.
The major difference between them for me is the stem wobble. Oil King wins in that department by quite a bit. But for some cherry profile keycaps and lower, these smoothies are amazing.
I agree with you. I saw the stem wobble as very apparent in this video. They sound good, though.
Glad you like them!
Can you try the DareU dream swiches, they are nice too
Will see if that possible.
mine lube got leaked so now they feel super mushy and sound as plain nothing so if you are willing to risk ik they are a good switch, ended up switching to hmx xinhai
issshh bad...
alexotos would love these
:)
Does anyone know how these compare to the Gateron milkshake switches?
Good question... will try to get some milkshake.
just a average switch atleast it has a light glass for backlight
For the price they are pretty great!
Damn
:)
