    S.Picker, my wife loves estate sales. Last year she came home from one and said they had a lot of jewelry making stuff, beads, clasps, chains, etc. Then she showed me a bag that she said looked like some kind of nuggets. Well it turned out to be 9 oz. of 14K gold casting grains, what jewelers use to cast bezels, bracelets, etc. She paid 10 bucks for a mixed bag of stuff and the casting grains had about $6,500 melt value, That's My Girl ! ! !

    I have to agree with going to every garage sale. Its so important that if you are going to go to sales, to never write them off as junk. The only ones I write off by sight alone are furniture only sales (we have alot of that in this area). I always look for coins, video games and most importantly older Magic: The Gathering cards.

    #9:54 You can still redeem SOME pre-Euro moneys for Euros in several western European countries (Germany and Austria are two of them).#10:12 Austria (German speaking country). #11:58 Many coin dealers sell a pound (weight) of foreign coins (usually pre-Euro for European coins) for around $10 - $15. The Canadian coins are worth 75 Cents to the American Dollar Your purchase is well worth it. If something like that was around my "hood," i'd "do it!" -- Happy Pickin's! 8^D

    I just found out those pre-Euro German Marks you can exchange for Euros (2 marks for 1 euro) at the bank in Germany. I went to a garage sale last month, found a collection of modern-ish foreign currency in a jar and there was a 200, a 50 and two 20's Mark bills, and I looked it up. $145 Euro value! The best part was I offered $40 for the whole jar of coins and bills because i didn't know the marks had any value, and she insisted i just take it because she had no use for it, i tried to insist I at least give her $20, but she said no so i got it for free!

    Those hungarian bills have been renewed in 1998 with completely new size, colour and pattern. Nowdays you can buy these bills on multiple price of the face value. A bill in bad shape worth at least two times. The thousand note in that shape can worth $10-20 also the five hundred at least $10. The two hundred bill has changed for coin, max worth 1$.

    The sister of a friend of mine went to a garage sale in New Hampshire and bought a tin box with metals, Coins & buttons etc. Inside was a 1776 PEWTER COIN with the 13 colonies on it. It had only one ( R ) in the word Continental (Curency). My friend wanted to give it to me. I had to tell him what he had. I think a good one right now is worth about $8000.00.

    You have some Two Pence coins from the U.K. Check if any of them are a 1983 "New Pence", If so you have a mint error 2p coin
    The 2p coins should be :- 1971 to 1981 "New Pence" From 1982 "Two Pence".

    So very true, 2 years ago I drove from Colorado to Florida to spend Christmas with my brother from another, who is also my best pickin buddy.and his lovely bride. They had just moved down there from Colo within a few months of my visit. Long to short, we hit up some yard sales in an area unfamiliar to him and they happened to be in a really bad meth part of Tampa. Learning curve achieved and a little disappointed , we decided to call it beer 30. On the way out of this neighborhood there was one sale left and you could see it was being put on by two little ladies (Widows )and definitely not the crack head types. Although it looked like a ladies sale of knick knacks, clothing, tupper.....etc. I made him stop, he humored me, but did get out to look. Well that day, I ended up with a Smith Wesson collection of 7 pistols all different calibers for $390. I offered more but they wanted them out of the house. Its true, if one puts forth the effort, sometimes that effort will get rewarded in spades. Sorry about the novel.

    I don't even travel and I'd pay ten bucks for that lot. Was a cashier for a major grocery chain in the mid-atlantic and have a lot of forgien coins that I found whild working. And the coinstar machine was right near my station and I use to pick up all the rejects too.

    That jersey 50p is not technically legal tender in the UK but you can't tell them apart from the UK ones without close examination. I find one non-uk coin roughly every few months.

    What part of the country do you live in? I would have sworn you were driving around some of the streets around here in NW Illinois. I have NEVER, however, found any noteworthy coins for purchase at garage sales here. There was one house one time, and it was the situation where the old man had every coin individually marked based off of a silver price of about $25/oz, apparently.

    • @Silverpicker
      @Silverpicker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, this was in Central New Jersey. I hate when people know enough to realize their coins are valuable, but not enough to realize that they are WAY overpricing their coins

      @@Silverpicker ah yeah, that makes sense, it was the rows of those nice little Cape Cod houses that looked like my town. As far as the overvaluing, I've been saying for years that it's a result of shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers. Everyone thinks their junk is rare collectibles. Of course, I suppose Antiques roadshow was doing the same thing well before then.
