That khene there is of Laotian culture.
This would be Laos culture not Hmong culture....even though I have a feeling the lao khaen originated from the hmong/miao qeej lusheng. Tel me if im wrong, but from what I know the miao/hmong qeej/lusheng has a longer history than the lao khaen.
blueberrysmilie1 Khaen was founded in many countries in South East Asia, likes Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam...at the moment, it was claim as Lao national musical instrument, but the first one was founded in North Vietnam 4,000 years ago....and I think there are more people from different ethnic groups are playing Khaen as their culture instruments (with different shapes) than the ppl living in cities.

The Khaen here is Laotian. The hmong/miao qeej/lusheng is different. It true that other ethnics have a reed pipe instrument, but those are only recent; excluding the lao khaen. The lusheng/qeej is the ethnic instrument of the miao/hmong group. We use it in funeral and have rituals and traditions that goes with it. When the hmong first migrated out of china, Vietnam was the first country they entered; but that was long after. Miao/hmong have a long history but sadly nothing is recorded, so its okay, our lost, if anything. I don't know everything about the history of both these instrument so I could be totally wrong. Someone should really look into the history of the qeej/lusheng, cause I cant find anything creditable on it.
