This instrument originated in Houaphanh province of Laos. Detail history could be found from XangKhaene Lao, now living in Ban Haisok (bodering with Ban Chomchaeng), Sisattanak district. Vientiane Capital.
It sounds good but this instrument lacks ranges and pitch variations. Therefore, it's not as popular as many other traditional instruments beyond their respective local villages in my opinion.

It is Lum Salawan...so many versions of this famous song recorded over the years in many languages. It comes from Salawan region of Southern Laos.
