That 17/18 season was the highest we finished since Sir Alex Ferguson left Manchester United. We started so well as we were just scoring goals, conceding less, keeping clean sheets and getting three points as Lukaku was scoring, Matic was doing well in midfield, Pogba was proving why he was the best midfielder that season and the team in general looked sharp and serious. But then after that 2-1 loss City in the Manchester Derby we started to fade away and our football was getting boring to watch which is why we ended the season trophy-less which was disappointing and only ended up getting top four. But that’s season we won at the home of our noisy neighbors from two goals down as Pogba made the headlines, beating Chelsea 2-1, won against Spurs 1-0, won at the Emirates 3-1 and had some other memorable moments as Lingard was on fire for us. So disappointing that we didn’t win a trophy as we lost the FA Cup final to Chelsea, got knocked out by Sevilla in the UCL and got knocked out in the Carabao Cup and just got top four but that’s they way it is. We move on AND AS ALWAYS COME ON YOU RED DEVILS♥️♥️♥️🔥

It was Mourinho’s utter cowardice and bus parking at Anfield to sneak away with a 0-0 draw that started the rot. We were flying. Scoring goals for fun. Undefeated in the League. Liverpool had only won one match in their last 7. They were there for the taking. If we had decided to attack them we could have won 2 or 3 nil easy. Instead, Mourinho decided to park the bus. Our title challenge ended that day because Mourinho had basically made clear to the squad he didn’t trust them to win a big game playing attacking football. Coward.

But even this season Mou fell out with pogba and signed Sanchez after falling out with mkhitaryan. He disrupted the harmony. He needed to keep it cool keep the squad together and that way we could keep building towards the league. This was our best chance to win it. there was no probs this season. ofc there was the fall out etc that i think mou handled badly but the problem was the season after. the 2017/18 season was a real progress where the team made a big improvement from the past seasons. they showed that they could be 2nd best although they where limited by squad depth. and ofc they went against a very high depth city squad. The following season they promised mou 280m on transfer. and he actually shared in an interview in pt who he wanted to sign that season : Milinkovic savic, so he can move pogba further up since paul had defensive issues, he wanted alex sandro at the time one of the best LB in the world defensively and going forward. he also wanted belotti to back lakaka XD and he wanted perisic on the left wing, he wanted bale at right wing and that year he also wanted to leave RM. and finally he wanted Toby alderwield to parnter with Eric bailly in that CB position. in the end they spent 70 m for jose title challenge season with fred and dalot. people still expected him to win with that team XD

@@ernestopereira3653 you can't always have a war chest you have to work with what you have. He just bought matic and lindelof and now we should give him Alderwierald and Milinkovic Savic? We had the deepest squad in the division. Pep won the league with Delph at LB, otamendi and Stones not at his peak at CB. Klopp made a champjons league final thay year with Karius Lovren Lallana Milner Henderson Ox etc. If Mou just relaxed and worked with what he's got he would've been fine. But no he just blew it all up by falling out with our best player that year pogba leaving him on the bench against sevilla got us knocked out and entered his typical self destruct mode by humiliating the club afterwards. I wish for once he would put his ego aside and realise he had to reinvent himself and utilise the amazing squad we had. Just cause its gotten worse since hes left doesnt mean he was right. No excuses

@@user-vm4by6qy3q I see what your saying and I don't want to disrespect you but you need to inform yourself better because you say he played Delph but let me just tell you some facts about that season. The back four that played the most games that year for city was messy LB otamendi kompany walker. The full backs they bought that specific year, WHY? Because pep wasn't happy with Delph etc he also bought Silva that year also ederso because he bought bravo the year before but he was bonkers. So you can't compare the server two my guy 🤣🤣 secondly when did van dijk come in for Liverpool and made them basically title challengers the season after ? Yeah there we go and then to top that the year after the same year José got Fred and dalot klopp got to naby Keita Fabinho Shaqiri Ryan Kent. So don't tell me a load of nonsense about he should ve been patient but when your board demands titles, and they support you with dalot and Fred while pep had an overhaul in the team buying Mahrez etc etc and klopp adding to his team. Don't expect the guy to be happy unless he's a smiley beta ole Gunnar solskjaer always happy with what he's got. There's a reason why he's the special one and although he hasn't been intelligent like pep has been with the clubs hes managed but he is still one of the best managers to get out there.

Although I don’t think anyone was going to stop City that season, losing to Huddersfield, Brighton, West Brom and also dropping two points against Southampton, Burnley and Stoke were things that probably wouldn’t have happened under Ferguson. Or at least not all in the same season anyway.
That was a big part of the difference. Even all that still only amounts to 15 points and City won the League by 19 but it shows that they could have been more competitive. With all that being said and the flack United took that season for being seen as giving soft goals away and losing games that they should have won, they still came second and if they were as bad as all that, then it didn’t say much for the rest.

No surprise we lost to Huddersfield a week later. Never thought we were in the running after that, despite the decent results for the rest of the season it felt so telling for Jose long-term at United. Never gonna work.

Probably our best squad post fergie (tbh you could argue the current side is better due to a stronger defence despite being on the receiving end to massive defeats but this side had a lot more depth and was very wealthy in attack).
De gea probably the best GK at the time, Matic playing decent on holding mid, Pogba being the Pogba we know (a shame what transpired later on). Lingard, Rashford x Martial all contributed very well as attacking options (doe Martial should have finished a lot of chances i must say lool) Last but not least Lukaku, he may be criticised and joked about a lot nowadays but this season he was immense, always in the right places x had an eye for goal.
Not to mention Mata, Fellaini, Herrera, Ibrahimovic, Mikitaryan, Sanchez etc. we had a deep team tbf. It’s just our defence was woeful loool. I can see why Mourinho said this was one of his greatest achievements, reaching 2nd w loool it’s crazy how this was our best season yet we were so behind city even midway through the league loool
Decent season i guess the beginning we was so ruthless it made me so gassed for the season then the bs hit and the rest was history. That comeback against city was special, pogba did his thing🔥

Not a trash Bruno or McTominnay in sight. But these goofy fans scapegoated these players that gave us our best season after SAF

I will never understand the Sanchez signing. I got so much hate from people for saying we should let him go to city, and go after someone younger. He robbed us blind.

Best season since SAF but still weren't at a top level. Overperformed again in all areas, DDG was bailing the team out a fair few times. Liverpool and Spurs were far better teams, take a look at an xG table and it backs it up, performance-wise this team wasn't as good as the real table suggested.

Remember this season so well. Our first two or three games ended with a 4 nill scoreline then mourinho started to park the bus against everybody. Ruined our momentum.

That was last year when we got CL qualification (3rd), won the Carabao, and got to the FA Cup final under the manager with the higher ever Manchester United win ratio. Glad to be of help.

José should be better than Ten Hag. Yes, Ten Hag managed to get 3rd with 75 points as well as winning a Carabao Cup, but did the fans forget that José got 2nd with United with 81 points, as well as winning a Europa League Cup AND a Carabao Cup? José deserves more credit. And I say this as a Liverpool fan.
