UPDATE on Humpback Whale: Unfortunately, tracking a whale is very hard. We contacted two different whale entanglement teams but they could not relocate the whale. Nautilus Liveboards did offer their search plane in the assist but weather hindered all searches for the next two days and we all had to leave the area to seek shelter in a cove. Here is more footage of the orcas hunting if you want to see it. Thanks! th-cam.com/video/jagpmk65nE4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=T2wUkCVQq4XzZgD5
@TheMalibuArtist Aww man, that really sucks. It looked like that net was hurting like hell, too. Oh and before I forget, you really need to start looking into night vision and infrared add-ons for your drone, my man. I asked you about this a few years ago but I don't think the tech was quite there at that time. It may be getting there now but I'm guessing it's gonna come in pretty hefty price-wise. But please look into it and think of the shots and new discoveries to be made! Salivating*
He explained quite well why they couldn't be the ones to help it. It's not as simple as it may seem. A humpback whale is beyond a size you could even imagine. Throw in all the thrashing around, who knows what could have happened to both the whale and the people. They did right by making calls to the right people
This was such a beautiful video. I have a terminal illness and the sea of Cortez and especially the st Ignacio lagoon has officially become my dream bucket list vacation if I could ever afford to go. Thank you so much for inspiring that and for all you do to educate people about the creatures in the worlds oceans and how important they are. You've been su h a blessing to watch.
I wish the last vaquitas (tiny dolphin species) in the Sea Of Cortez could somehow be saved. Unfortunately there are very few left and they get netted. They're fascinating.
I have always been fascinated and loved whales, so much so that I wanted to be a marine biologist almost my whole childhood, and the only reason I did not pursue it is because i developed pretty bad thalassophobia, which I have worked on to be able to go snorkeling even! Which was a big deal for me! But still I am just so amazed by what beautiful, intelligent, and gentle creatures whales are! That being said, false killer whales for some reason scare me a bit even though I love them, but my goodness those teeth! Even though I know they are not aggressive and have never attacked humans, like I know that, but my stupid anxiety does not listen to the practical part of my brain sometimes 😂 But I have loved following your work, and you are the one that really made me understand sharks enough to work to lessen my fear of the ocean, and I think you are doing amazing work! What an amazing experience to be able to be with the orcas while they hunt! Please keep up the amazing work! 🖤🐋🐳🦈
I hope someone helped the humpback😢 humpbacks are my favorite animals, and after the young male lost his tail to entanglement here in Washington, it just absolutely tears my heart apart whenever i see an entangled animal💔💔
Oh my goodness Carlos, that footage of the false killer whale reacting to/interacting with you is remarkable. I Always *begin to wonder now when I see whale/human interaction, What must the whales be thinking?.
I had to pause the video for a bit after the humpback whale, that just hurt my heart 😢There was no doubt it was asking for help, I would have never been able to leave it.
How awesome. Orcas are my favorite. I’m so jealous that you all got to do this. One day, I hope to see them in the wild. My friend is moving to WA next year so I’m hoping to visit her there and see them at Puget Sound.
Mobula Munkiana Rays have a unique connection to here in San Diego and more specifically La Jolla and the Scripps Institute of Oceanography. When they were observed and classified by Giuseppe Notarbartolo di Scriara he decided to name them after his mentor, Walter Munk. Really awesome you got to see all that marine life in person.
I would give it all just to be able to see the beauty that you do up close. Orcas are by far my favorite aquatic animal. I adore watching the many videos of those who have been blessed to swim in the wild with them. Their curiosity and gentleness towards us just is awe inspiring, especially knowing how cruel and hateful humans can be. To witness (via footage) how different orcas are in the wild to how they are in captivity is truly heartbreaking though. I can't even imagine being restricted with movement in such a small captive pool compared to being able to swim freely a thousand miles a day and how that plays out for them mentally. No wonder they lash out towards us, however when free to be what they are in the wild, they treat us with respect, tranquility & peace not harming us nor wanting to harm us in anyway. In this lifetime I suspect I will never be able to swim with them let alone see them in the free world and I will never step foot in some park to see them in captivity. So.... it appears your videos will be the closest I ever come & for that I am incredibly grateful to enclose myself in the moments of footage you show us where I can live my dreams out through your eyes. 🙏
what a banger video to finalize this year ! Amazing footage - I loved it so much. I hope the entangled whale can be located again at some point so a team can help him.
4:20 for me the poor maddened whale is a somber reminder of the plight of the vaquita porpoise, not to mention the totoaba… this is what happens when Chinese traffickers get together with cartel-ruled Mexico and apparently careless/ignorant locals. How has one poaching industry wrought this much damage with their gillnets? Incredible
Wow this was such an incredibly beautiful and interesting video. Thank you for taking us along on this trip, it would be my dream to do something like this...
I want to join you one of these years. Gotta get the $ together and take care of some medical things. It’s on my becket list for sure. Swimming with Orca is something I’ve gotta do. Thanks for sharing your journeys with us all.
Your videos are incredibly inspiring. I am a student eager to pursue a life in balance with nature. How did you become involved in the capacity you are? Would you recommend studying marine biology to follow in your footstep?
Sad to see that tangled one... we humans are so destructive. And what an awesome experience those other moments. Thanks for sharing with us Carlos. And wish you a great end of 2024 and a better 2025! 🎉✨️🤍
I could watch this channel on a 24hr loop but I feel guilty enough for not being able to subscribe right now. lol It's not just all about white sharks but Orca and anything else Carlos manages to capture. The sea really is a real-life unexplored alien world. By learning more about its inhabitants, we learn more about ourselves.
Carlos wish you continued success in 2025! We look forward to enjoy watching your amazing videos. We got 2 mugs from your website, all the best to you 🎉 🐋 🦈
Orcas are so much more interesting than sharks to me personally. As intelligent as they are, they will never cease to amaze me! It’s absolutely crucial that we #emptythetanks and put a stop to captivity.
Orcas are the GOATS of the ocean. Those false killer whales are adorable! I wish we could rename them, because "false killer whale" doesn't sound good. I'm thinking "obsidian whale." I hope that sperm whale got free from the net. That poor animal doesn't deserve that. I send them love.
I hope they found the whale & untangled him😢! What an amazing video. I was so fascinated over those other types of killer whales that even look kind of spooky!😮😊
I have hung inside a bait ball of smaller fish while it got worked over by jacks, tuna, various predators smaller than me. Being inside a bait ball of large rays getting worked over by multi ton predators is turning it up WAY past 11.
Poor humpback whale. I don't think I could have left the situation like that. The reasons you guys did made sense but I know me. It even really bothers me and I wasn't there.
I'm deeply upset that this whale was left to suffer!! I understand the risk of helping but I just would not be able to walk away from this beautiful creature in pain, etc😭😭😭😭
While we love being close and filming wildlife ourselves, I can’t help but think jumping in and getting that close to Orcas, especially while feeding, is interfering with their daily existence. Had this been in the U.S., approaching closer than 100 or 200 yards (depending on the location) would have been in violation of NOAA’s regulations.
That is answered in the video itself! It's a false killer whale. The image on the left is a killer whale (orca) hence the black color. The one on the right is a false killer whale, named for their similarities in the skull. We swam with both. Please watch the video regarding the encounters.
I am a fan of your videos. I like the footage of the great white sharks off the coast of California most and breathtaking. But today, I must criticize. While it is certainly an amazing feeling to swim with orcas, but being literally on their plate while they are eating and being surrounded by their food is neither an adventure nor respectful. One fin stroke that accidentally hits a swimmer instead of a ray, and these wonderful whales are once again seen as monsters that bloodthirstily hunt humans. I whish, I hadn't seen this on this channel. - sorry
Thank you for your opinion. I'm not aware that whales were ever seen as monsters that bloodthirstily hunt humans. Sharks yes, whales, I don't believe a wild orca has ever killed a human actually. Their relationship with us is much more complex. Until you've seen one in the water face to face, and stared one in the eyes, they are on a whole different intelligence level. I wish you a Happy New Year.
@@TheMalibuArtist i think that is not the question, @kunoknollenbuddler2167 means that you are running a risk. even if something like described happened unintentionally, there would still be a large crowd judging the orca te be dangerous and possibly creating a witch hunt by ignorant and easily manipulated people, we 've all seen and know where this can lead to. i agree with @kunoknollenbuddler2167 pont of view
