In Turkey we have a similar case of Bayram Tepeli, the guy started working at Istanbul Atatürk Airport in 1991 and living there eventually retired but refused to go away and just continued to live there. This case might be weirder as the airport closed down last year and he simply moved to the second airport in Istanbul. He is currently living in Sabiha Gökçek airport.

This is one of those rare examples of people giving support to a poor soul out of kindness in their hearts. I have seen a lot of people living in tents on the streets, and they sicken me. I hope the whole world can be like the airport staff supporting Denis one day.
Something like this nearly happened to me on late July 2019. I was on a flight from the Philippines enroute to Hong Kong for a change over and my connecting flight was denied entry due to the escalating riots. I was stuck there for 4 days until I was rerouted to Japan for a connecting flight home to New Zealand.
I once had a Visa issue with Schengen (continental Europe), had to exit and stay out for 90 days before I could legally return. Because of available flights and time differences, I arrived in Amsterdam almost 22 hours early or at day 89. So... I was sort of stranded in Schiphol airport, just before Christmas. It was actually quite nice! I hung out in cafes, took a shower in a pay lounge, slept a bit in the quiet area (near the meditation center), visited a mini-Rijksmuseum and saw great art, went to the e-library and downloaded free books and listened to music, ate great Dutch food, some gourmet pizza and some sushi, shopped in the many retail stores, strolled in the indoor park, briefly considered using the capsule hotel, and generally enjoying the free wifi and festive Christmas atmosphere. Every one of the Dutch people that I interacted with were super friendly, helpful and cool. It turned out to be a wonderful travel memory for me, and I still have a warm spot in my heart for Schiphol airport.
So here's my airport story, I parked my car in short-term parking instead of long-term, so after spending thousands in Hawaii, I made it back to Norfolk airport in Virginia, to my surprise I had to pay 200 for parking. I didn't have the money, they wouldn't let me leave, even when I explained it was a mistake to park in short term. I was stuck. The longer I waited the more I had to pay, as it was by the hour... It was 2am and nobody would pick up my calls. I lost hope and laid on the benches stranded. I got a call from my ex gf, later that night, of all people, and she literally too an Uber to go bail me out of airport prison. True story folks
ElectricEel yeah my grandmother lived about 15 meters from the train tracks for about 35 years but she had to sell her house because of financial issues
