Thanks for these! I chanced upon a very nice twin stick arcade controller (estate find 😥), so now robotron and crazy climber basically have to become 'my jam' now. 'Keep the kid alive on the brain stage'--that alone is probably enough to topple my first day's PB. I'll do another hour or so and come back for the second vid 👍
Nice vid. My fave game of all time. Another tip when playing Robotron, I'd say would be to try to stay in the center of the board for as long as you can, while it is inevitable you will have to go around in circles, you are always much safer in the center of the board, all the enemies Firepower is a lot slower. By the way my unofficial five men record is now 963 k
Nice addition to the channel. I only got to play this for a few minutes when I visited Galloping Ghosts but it was fun when I did. Looking forward to more.
I remember when we first got our computer in the 80's and had this Space Invaders clone and I played that game for hours. You know you play too much of a game when you go to sleep and your mind is still playing the game. lol I'm wondering if this has ever happened to you playing a long session of Robotron?
Great idea. We're definitely going to start this series with some of the lesser-known games. No pac man, donkey kong, or galaga for now :) Sinistar is a great one.
A FEW QUESTIONS: 1) If the number of points required to get extra robots were increased over 25,000, would the scores reduce proportionately or greater? For example, if it took 50,000 points which the scores be cut by more than 50%? 2) Are there contests where players start with a fixed set of robots and whoever has the highest score wins? 3) Do they have contests where they tabulate the highest scores after a certain number of waves (say 100) to see who has the highest score, whether or not there is a chance to earn extra robots any any point level or not? I ask because I am the least-bit interested in seeing players play marathons.
This was great! I think the concept is excellent, and the only idea I have would be to possibly go a little bit more in depth with any tricks in the gameplay. The tip in wave five was great to have, and more like that would be a nice touch.
Nice! This game is totally worth building a twin stick setup just to play (if you don't have the arcade machine). I think I would do very at this game if I tried, my reaction time does not seemed to have slowed anyway (based on todays gaming anyway :))
Hi gregg great tips !! I can just get past the first brain wave but only maybe one in five games. wot sticks are you using on this set up ? Ive got sanwa jlf's and just dont feel right to me cheers
Nice video thanks would be cool to see more like it need all the help I can get. :) Also nice controller that's what I meant when we spoke at PAX AU specific type of controller for each game type in MAME.
It's definitely impossible to save every mommy, daddy, and Mikey clone on the video game screen. There's no little girl Janey clone on the video game screen. 🎮

Back in the 80's I was King of Robotron breaking the 1 million points score, now a days thats nothing for the greatest players.

Your comments are always entertaining Vin'
Save the family bro. :) I'm gonna go play this right now. Watching it is making me get itchy.
Best trick casually mentioned in this video: shoot away from enforcers and they'll tend to shoot not directly at you.
except he calls Enforcers "Quarks" if you listen carefully. Expert my ass.
I love Robotron 2084 I have my own arcade machine, it's been my favorite arcade game since it came out in the 1980's. Yes I'm that old.....
I love Robotron! Sweet video, too. I look forward to more of these.
You got it! We will definitely be uploading the intermediate and advanced videos in the near future. Any suggestions for the next game?

All the time. I have dreams where it is all about the game I'm playing.
nice breakdowns and nice video of the joysticks
Thanks a lot for these vids, guys. Will try this and other strategies - think even Eugene Jarvis said he's still hearing of fresh, viable ones.
Awesome. I hope to do a bunch more.
Man, Level 5 brainwave.... You left TONS of family points on the table. Accidental, yes, but at least 2-3 extra men and around 80 grand wasted.

Have you ever tried to talk and play Robotron simultaneously? I tried once, and I just make guttural caveman sounds. But yea, I think you're right :)
Awesome!! will have to get the slik-stik out of storage for this.
More of this please! Really love Robotron, would love to see other games covered as well. Great job! ^>^

If you continue doing these in the future, a Tron one and a Burgertime one would be awesome.

This reminds me of Bezerk or Frenzy. I loved those games.
It is on some of the collection games for gamecube, atari 7800, apple 2 (i think).
This is our favorite in the arcade! How about Sinistar next.
What level is this on? Has to be level 1.
sweet!
When did Williams release that style machine in the arcade :)
Yeah, usually he doesn't die at all in those early waves, but talking and having 3 cameras on you will distract you a bit. :)
If there's one in Portland you will witness me marr...owning it!
in the year 2084, in a fictional world where robots have turned against humans in a cybernetic revolt.
Which rom set are you guys playing?
Nice video thanks would be cool to see more like it need all the help I can get. :)

Oh no. Vin' the whistleblower... :)

Defender and Stargate for sure.
Do it! :)
This game baffled me when I tried to play it in Portland haha
I know, I like died in 5 seconds when I tried it. lol
Next year we will have to play a bunch more :)
So maybe next time, play, then offer commentary over it after the fact?
I'd like to see more of this.
3:41 HAHAHA ! That's an expert !?!?!?
4:56 He call Enforcers "Quarks".... is that an expert ???
It's definitely impossible to save every mommy, daddy, and Mikey clone on the video game screen. There's no little girl Janey clone on the video game screen. 🎮
Been playing for a few days hit 102k
eaten?...he probably meant "crushed by the hulks"
Very cool, I still don't know what's going on with so much happening lol
He was playing and got to a million points easy. Once he died at 400K and said, "Oooo..that was like a Gregg game". Hahaha.
Wow
Oh, how about Defender? ^>^
