I have unintentionally crashed a Mavic Pro which was completely pilot error. I flew the drone when there was too much moisture in the air and the temperature was in the single digits. As a result, my drone experienced icing on the props and overloaded the motors. I did receive an error on screen informing me there was an overload that helped me to save it from a more serious crash. While in the process of landing, one of the engines failed at about 20 ft from the surface and came tumbling the rest of the way down. It was damaged, but fortunately it was repairable and I was able to fly it again, however, the camera quality has never been quit the same since the accident. One lesson learned, do NOT fly in higher humidity at very low temperatures where icing can occur.

Hi Pierre, very useful vlog. I fly a mavic pro 1 and when I just got it I practiced in the garden flying at 1.5 meter high. Since I was so low I ignored the battery warning which was a huge mistake. Flying under a tree my drone entered RTH mode and started a vertical flight in the air. Luckily I could grasp it but I had to use a lot of force to keep it in my hand. Next challenge was to shut it down with only one hand available. I for sure will never forget about the RTH mode ;-) After that I went on a course in order to get a certificate. You need that in Belgium to legally fly a drone above 10 meters.

I have the same feeling always but it gets better. I’ve had mine over 2 years and so far no crashes. I don’t take unnecessary risks and always take safety precautions first. Safe flights!

Yeah i lost my drone when i was on a vacation in south norway. There was so many seagulls there, so my dad told me he would buy me a new one if i crashed in a seagull. And i did and lost the drone in the water

Yes , I crashed my Spark at least once, and my Magic Air at least once too. That’s all I’m going to admit.
@mercuryroaming here, i had a first generation Mavic and while i was in Ireland this past May i lost a drone in some seriously high winds at about 200m up. i tried to flip to sport mode and fight the wind and when that didn't work, i tried to descend before i lost connection over a 150m hill that the drone was flying toward. i couldn't get it down in time and the wind just took it out over the boggy Irish wilderness. i attempted to return home and then take a sketchy dirt road on the other side of the hill with hopes of reconnecting and locating it but i was long gone. i could've looked up on GPS what the last known coordinates were but even if i knew the coordinates, there was no way i could've gotten to where it probably ended up. it was a costly mistake but its a bit of a right of passage. i replaced it and have the Mavic Pro Platinum now so i could keep the portrait mode. great video! keep up the good work! fly safe, guys.
Phantom 4 Pro....rammed into a pole recording at 45 degrees on my uncles farm looking for wild hog trail, they were killing his crops and a calf. Luckily it was recovered but there was some grinding in the gimbal which is intermittent, I still need to sort it out. Love the channel BTW, I’m just a guy with too many toys trying to figure out how to use them and you’ve been a great help.

Pierre, I'm going to get a Mavic Pro2. From what I have read I should be getting 8 & 16 ND filters for video and 32 & 64 filters for stills - is this right?
Yes sounds right! Or 4,8,16 or 8,16,32
No that's not right . It completely varies based on amount of light Your more likely to use a 32 and 64 on very bright days for video base on your frame rate and exposure (180 rule) and you may use 8 and 16 on sunrise /sunset or cloudy days for video. For stills you only need ND if you want a longer exposure to show motion blur such as a waterfall In stills you would be more likely to use a polarizer to cut glare on water or vegetation or increase color saturation . For most stills you dont need NDs at all. .
Not into drones, but vid info is a good reference for the future. Using Google Earth as part of planning shoots and exp bracketing also help non-drone photography. AEB might make a good subject for future vid. Looks like you have a new lighting set up in your studio; improvement over Rembrant lighting. Nice pineapple with dog shirt😊.

Pierre, thanks for the tips! They'll be helpful in getting better shots for sure! I have both a Mavic Pro and a Mavic 2 Pro. I just got a set of PolarPro Osmo Action filters Vivid 5-Pack-Cinema Series (4/8/16/32/64PL) and they make my shots SO much nicer! I also have a Cinema Series (4/8/16ND) for my Osmo Pocket and the Cinema Series set (4/8/16ND & 4/8/16PL) for my Mavic Pro. I have their Cinema Series (4/8/16ND) for my Mavic 2 Pro and just ordered the "Limited Collection" Cinema Series (32/64ND & 32/64PL) for my Mavic 2 Pro. I can't wait to see how much better the skies will look, the glare will disappear from glass and water reflections and just how much overall better my shots and video will be with these other filters.
One other mention you didn't hit on is that, without at least a good ND filter, when drone shooting of video, with the sun in front and above the drone, you will sometimes get prop shows creating lines in your footage (a total disaster if you don't realize it before you get home!). This is due to the similar timing of your shutter speed and the shadows cast by the props onto the lens while shooting, and it can make your footage look like an old TV with the lines creeping up the footage. It's not a good look. The simple addition of an ND filter changes your shutter speed so that the lines don't happen. I learned this the hard way and can tell you the price of the filters was well worth it for peace of mind while shooting into the sun. Any of your viewers having this issue and thinking there's something wrong with their drone may want to invest in. a good set of filters; not necessarily PolarPro, but honestly, they are the best quality with a bulletproof warranty.

Thanks Pierre - nice informative presentation. I have the Mavic 2 Pro & always shoot Exposure Brackets for single images. I enjoy Panoramas in Lightroom; however, the 180 - 21 images makes my iMac work very hard with 16gb memory. What I would like is to shoot auto AEB panoramas and stitch them in Lightroom. I reckon the only way is to fly in Tripod mode to do AEB 3 shots - manually yaw the Drone to new position each time. Can you recommend any good Panorama apps. I have not used Litchi (though I did buy it) because I am afraid DJI might get cross about the warranty. As soon as it is out of warranty my Mavic 2 Pro will be shooting panos. The problem with 21 single raw images is I find it nearly impossible to get an average light meter setting to get the brightest parts of the sky and darkest bits of ground balanced enough to get a good post processed image. Keep up the good work. (Now Subscribed!).

Good question and I'll be honest I never tried! Could you do panorama mode twice or 3 times but putting your EV manually? -2,0,+2 and then stitch the 3 panos in post?
I use PS for stitching in post - but haven't done any in a LONG time! :)

Crashed my 1 day old mavic 2 air into a powerline and into a mud hole. Gimbal was stuck beyond point of normal travel. Just popped it back wiped the water off the outside and powered it right back on. still works like a charm. Made me rethink DJI care before the 48 hrs was up.
I had lost a drone at sea... I was shooting shots near home when the drone started spinning out of control. The video feed was still working but eventually got too fast to see anything other than the horizon going sideways. I had actually pressed return to home as soon as I felt like it wasn’t responding to my inputs correctly, but that didn’t work. Turns out, I was wishing days of the warranty expiring. DJI was able to review the telemetry data and concluded that the compass failed. They replaced it at no cost to me.
Got a mavic 2 zoom and on my third flight I sent it into a tree 20 metres high. Done is perfectly fine and it works just as it did before

I lost my drone in the woods :/ Magic Mini. It got a strange battery warning (unexpected load?) and then it started to return to home and the battery depleted before it came back :( I was flying over forest, so it was a stretch of 1.5 kilos to cover. It would have been impossible to find

Before we got our mavic pro 1 wad had a phantom 4 pro. It got swooped by a magpie and cut the magpies headoff with the blades and crashed. It sucked but we got a new drone.

Lost my drone during a Hawaii shoot due to battery failure. Experienced the battery issue after charging it with DJI car charger. Don't use that charger unless you really have to...

I have shot at 8" with Mavic 2 getting pretty sharp image even if is a windy as long as you use tripod mode for this shots, obviously using a 10 to 16 stops filter, so try it.
but don't forget to be aware of the wind directions, to make sure you will have your drone back.
Shooting in bracketing mode is something a wasn't thinking before, but that's a great recommendation, thank you!
