    There are not "plenty of people" who can pull 900. There are only a handful. Only one person has pulled 900 in the past year: Andy Bolton. Benedikt failed with 915 or so at the CAPO meet. Malanichev has pulled 892, and I think Vince Urbank has pulled close to 900 this year and failed with 9+. Brian Shaw and a few other strongman competitors could probably pull 900 raw under powerlifting standards. So, a 900 raw pull is still VERY rare.

      About the deadlift:
      1) DL is the lift where gear gives the less support. Squat greatly benefits from suits and knee wraps, bench shirt can add a lot of kg to your max (if properly used), while deadlift suits help much less.
      2) In IPF only Eleiko barbells are allowed; those barbells are much stiffer than those used in other federations (you can see them not bending very much). Barbell stiffness makes deadlifts in IPF feel much heavier, that's why world record are lower than in other feds,

    • @CaliforniaCarpenter7
      @CaliforniaCarpenter7 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      131T3M3 Because wearing lifting gear does very little to improve one's deadlift numbers. Squat suits, and bench shirts can sometimes add 200+ pounds to a person's max.

      because these guys have their knees wrapped so tight they can barely walk. Not really anything that can assist that much for a deadlift

    I knew a guy named David (didn't get his last name) in northern Florida, outside Jacksonville, west of the St. Johns River, who could bench 950 lbs for 10 sets of 10 reps, in less than a half hour.
    The solid concrete floor literally shook each time he lifted the bar, and he actually was jerking it up a little bit. The bar would bend each time he jerked it upwards.
    He also had 6 spotters (he didn't like to bench for some reason).

    He benched as much as his dead lift. 2 things: 1- The world's strongest men could not bench anywhere near that, although he does wear a super suit, which is permitted in powerlifting. 2- The dead lift WR is 1102, far above the 800 he struggled with. Still enough to beat his own WR total. Yes, there are at least 5-10 people (MEN) who can deadlift over 900. Brian Shaw being one. Check TH-cam for names.

    What are the raw record numbers right now? I don't understand why these lifters at the IPH only deadlift roughly 700 ~ 800 or so, when there seem to be plenty of people who can deadlift well into the 900 or 1000, like magnusson. Is there an explanation for why these combined lifters have a heavier squat than their deadlifts (which I feel is the case even if raw)?

    • @zachstaudt8618
      @zachstaudt8618 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most powerlifters get very little out of a deadlift suit. I believe you get more out of a squat/bench suit because there is an eccentric portion to the lift and the suit stretches much more creating more rebound out of the bottom of a squat or benchpress

    • @131T3M3
      @131T3M3 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's that too, but I'm talking about raw numbers as well. For most people who deadlift/squat in the 300~400lb ranges, you'll notice that theres roughly a 4:5 ratio of squat to deadlift, but with competitive powerlifters' raw numbers, you'll see a 1:1, if not even higher ratio of squat:deadlift (without gear).

      knee wraps

    • @MrOnceinside
      @MrOnceinside 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      definitely the wraps, and you really cant count the lifters that are using the monolift because that is more of a reverse leg press than it is a squat.

    • @bunimokjh
      @bunimokjh 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      131T3M3 well, first, the squat is first, and the deadlift is the last, so a lot of powerlifters put a lot of training into the squat because is when you are at your full potential and not exhausted in a competition, which isn' the case of the deadlift, and second, the use knee wraps, adding some pounds over.

    • @pouja

      They use a single deploy for squat, deadlift and bench. A deploy is a suit that helps you with your lift. It helps you a lot with squat and bench, but little with deadlift. That is why their deadlift is 'low' compared to their other lifts.

      +onegmsgmailcom gaining weight helps squat more than deadlift. That is why almost all of the lighter lifters under 200lbs deadlift more than they squat and as they become heavier the difference of weight between both tend to come closer :)

    I thought the most elite powerlifters were deadlifting in the 1000 lb+ region? How come he can only deadlift about 20 lbs more than he can bench? He's incredibly strong i don't take anything away from him, but that seems odd to me.

    • @powerlifting1986
      @powerlifting1986  10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Only two powerlifters have ever deadlifted 1,000 lbs in all of history. At the moment, no one can pull 1,000. Everyone has the lift they are best at. This guy is a really good squatter. Others are really good deadlifters. It just depends on the lifter. Konstantinovs can pulled in the mid 900s, but he's never even squatted 800.

    • @Kphyl
      @Kphyl 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think its also because hes using a bench shirt that it helps him pull that much weight; also with the squat and the suit. For deadlift, its essentially raw.

    • @Andrew..J
      @Andrew..J 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bench shirt probably adds 75-125 lbs, ive used a cheap slingshot and added 50 to my max. Still incredible though.

      @johnbackos5192 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +THExJMC Those who are very good at the squat and bench are usually not built to deadlift. Long torso + short arms and legs. He also needs to be quite low at the start of the sumo, long distance to pull. Strong as fuck though.

      @Filipinopanda1988 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @thomassabatier506
      @thomassabatier506 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bench shirts are made of elastic fabric which pull your arms together. Essentially, it gives assistance on the bottom portion of the least, which is otherwise a weak point for raw lifters.
      Now if your comment is why isn't all powerlifting raw and all squats ATG, I couldn't agree more. At the pace where things are going, people will be doing rack pulls instead of deadlifts and unracking a bar instead of squatting it.

    • @lb4941
      @lb4941 8 ปีที่แล้ว
