This is, by far, among the best videos for C2 restoration I have seen. I've been restoring my '64 roadster for about a year and a half. So, I have seen many, and most are not as clear and useful. I have all new harnesses and will be undertaking this work myself. Your video provides confidence. Congrats and thank you for sharing.

When I had my wife's 77 Trans AM rust free AZ car restored (steel was excellent, all rubber, paint, plastics not so much) I purposely replaced the complete under hood harness(s) with OEM equivalent due to heat concerns over time , all electrical has been flawless now for 13 years, car is like new and gorgeous.

Great video. Easy to follow. In order to replace the wiring in an intact car I assume the dash components have to come out and maybe even the steering column. A video on dash re-wiring and dash restoration would be great.

I can attest. Was helping my father in law with his 65 yesterday and "we" smoked" a wire in the dash harness in the vicinity of the ignition switch while putting in a aftermarket look alike radio. Came here to aid our diagnosis. It would appear red wire from blower motor was compromised and smoked the insulation well into the harness. Damn lucky we didn't lose her entirely, but now we're on hold.

Can you identify the connector you touch briefly at 7:59 of your video? I was fortunate enough to find this very informative video you shot...in one take.... and am trying to diagnose a problem we're having with my Father in law's 65. The connector in question has a metal clip affixed to it and the orange wire completely smoked well into the harness while we were installing a radio yesterday. Needless to say, we are offline until we can get this harness replaced. This identification will aid us in our troubleshooting endeavors. Thanks in advance! DEFINITELY HELPED TO HAVE THIS LAID OUT AS YOU DID TO BETTER VISUALIZE WHAT'S WHAT!

Hey Junior, this is very helpful ... really great layout and explanation. Thanks a bunch for taking the time!
    A couple of questions:
How do you clean old connectors ... disassemble and brush, or chemically?
Do you add dielectric grease in the connectors?
Is it self-explanatory how exactly the wires are routed and fastened in the car, or is there a handy guide somewhere?
How does NCRS feel about the sound deadener or insulation added?
I noticed the dual-circuit brake lines. I thought '66 had single-circuit. Is this a mod, and does NCRS allow that?
    Thanks!

Good video, and good information. I happen to be fixing a lot of wiring sins by the previous owner(s) in a ‘74 Firebird Formula - it’s amazing how much more wiring cars picked up in just eight years, and yet I see a lot of similarities between ‘66 and ‘74. I had to chuckle when you called out the wire for the interior lights with the bullet connector. That same wire is not connected on my car, and I was wondering what it is for. I had suspected interior lights, but that suspicion is now strengthened from viewing this video. I have a basic wiring diagram for the car, but little things like this help, too. I like the technical info, keep it up.

Excellent tutorial. You should make more!
I have an issue with a 1962 corvette with an erratic gas gauge that ticks in timing with my blinker or brake. I have had mechanics look at the car and he replaced the sending unit but it still does not work correctly. I had a short in the rear blinkers but I corrected it. However, since I fixed the blinker issue the passenger side (2 lights) blinks and then the other, over and over, until the operator ends it.
    Your advice would be welcomed,
    John

Awesome! I’m restoring a 64 Sedan. If this car wasn’t a Vette it should be crushed. The wiring on this car looks like a Stephan King movie. Lots of disconnect wires, corroded, and twisted/electrical taped splices. Getting a new harness, like starting with organized layout. You got it nailed. This is my first fiberglass body how is the grounding initiate and distributed? I’ve got maybe a dozen Mustang and Falcons under my belt, first Chevy (a fiberglass one) many thanks.

    great video!
Just recently purchased a 65 convertible from my parents who’ve owned the car since the early 70’s. It was parked in the garage in the mid 80’s due to the brakes not working. At that time, I filled the engine cylinders with oil and put it on blocks. After a few thousand dollars the cars up and running great but I now have electrical bugs. After checking, looks like the fuse box has top rust on the connectors. Just thinking it might be worth stripping the wiring harness out along with the fuse box and thoroughly cleaning or just replacing. The few bugs are items such as no power to the gauges and instrument cluster dash lights. Any thoughts?

This was great as I have a '66 sb and, with your help, have now identified a nagging question regarding an unknown wire. I have owned my car >20yrs, am the 4th or 5th owner now. Car was never correctly or completely restored and I keep discovering missing or incorrect items, trying to fix or rectify the condition as I gain more knowledge. Would love to see more underdash or behind dash wiring videos.
Can you explain or identify locations and / or proper grounding? Have tremendous 'crackling' or interference when I turn on Radio. Not sure if grounding is issue or radio needs rebuild? Any suggestions?

This is for a classic corvette stock install.
Who is the manufacture of the harness.
What happens if you do a resto mod and install a laser motor with fuel injection?
Will the harness supplier make the changes for you. Eg electric fuel pump?

I watch you guys a lot. The 66 wiring diagram laid out on the floor might help me track down a problem in my 67. But I have a question first. I bought the car in Feb and it came off the transport with the turn signals and brake light not working. The flasher knob pulls out and won’t latch if depressed, but does activate my flashers. So my bulbs are good as well as the sockets. Lights also work except drivers side parking light which barely lights up the element. All other parking lights are good. Question: does the signal harness in the column if faulty, cause the brake lights to not work?

Great video. Unfortunately we hooked up a battery backwards to jump on 63 no AC . Engine harness started to melt. Tried to turn the key once. Looks like just the engine harness got hot. Does anyone here know what was energized during this disaster? I’m hoping it’s just the engine harness, going to replace that first check all fuses and hope for the best.

    • @HorsepowerWarehouse
      @HorsepowerWarehouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The sound and thermal deadening I used on this car far surpasses the factory underlayment in terms of performance. For most builds, we feel the potential future point loss is a price worth paying for a much better driving experience. The same could be said of powder coat, stainless lined calipers, stainless brake lines, base/clear paint, ect.

I have The battery grounded to the engine and engine grounded to the frame. Positive cable to the cylinoid I am confused over the Minnie starter I have a thick purple wire to the single prong on cylinoied the small black /pink striped taped off . Hei distributor has 3 wires red, yellow, black.
I can't find consistency on information how it should be wired. I don't have power to key switch. Horn relay red wires are hooked up.
