    You are blessed to have a wonderful mentor and player in your mom.
    I used to play my dad all the time until college, when I went down a piece but then forced a draw through perpetual check - the first time he ever played me serious and _didn't_ win. He was never "in the mood" to play against me since, which was unfortunate - but we recently reconciled that, I think. A little before he turned 80 this past July, the topic came up, and I told him this: dad, you do realize, even if you continued to play me and lost, you still won, right? He was like, how so? I said, remember, you're the one who taught me that one of the objectives of a parent is for their offspring to do (on average) a little better than themselves. So if by practicing against you, I eventually learned to beat you, you still won in that respect. I'm _supposed_ to exceed your accomplishments, remember?
    At least I got a chuckle out of him...
    As for you, I wouldn't be too disappointed in not being able to defeat one of the best grandmasters of her time on the regular. When that power/achievement graph starts pushing the upper limit... It's kind of like someone getting 5 perfect test scores in a row - hard to match, let alone beat (now you need 6 minimum), hence upper limit. At that point, being competitive with such a person is itself a great achievement. And, after all, you _did_ take one game...! ;-)

    • @Rashu88
      @Rashu88 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Parents should be happy for their kids when they excel at something, even if it requires seeing yourself beaten. Else how would you expect them to excel at anything ever? It seems abit to me that your dad stunted your growth by ceasing to play with you, instead of praising your development

      I feel like for the average person it's almost physically impossible, GMs are just wired differently! But I'm no expert so what do i know

    I can't believe how Pia is so good at chess and smart, It's like aging didn't affect her skills at all.

    Unsurprisingly, your mom gave you very god advice. When I was a kid my mother taught me to play, and within a few weeks I could beat her every game. But I think your learning curve in order to do the same is quite a bit steeper.

    at that age she still thinks clearly. And has more time on the clock. Her years of experience with chess defines every move she makes. I love how your mom play. more of logic than instinct. I like how you play chess too, engaging and not too deep. Sometimes when I play I tend to over think .

    • @JustSaying290
      @JustSaying290 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chriskeith5742 normally there should be a decline in thinking at 59. Though some would deny they are declining. But with her mother those are memories of games she played plus of course the new lines she would have to analyze.

      Hahahaha.... I would expect a statement like that if she was 10 years older or 15... she isn't old - at all.
