    I was just putting together info on cel care and collecting on r/animation cels, and this is super helpful! Some things to notes:
    1. Gloves depends on the person! A lot of archivists for books actually recommend not using gloves due to how it dulls the sense of your hands. Ofc, feel free to do so! You won’t hurt the cel with gloves, but you can also thoroughly wash and DRY your hands!
    2. I didn’t notice it mentioned (but I draw while watching so I may have missed it) but it’s worth noting that cels often do NOT come with certificates of authenticity! WB cels might (after the 90s BTAS cel craze in particular), but a lot are just “as is.”
    I hope more info gets out there for how we can collect and safely keep cels! They’re such a cool part of history and I love seeing more people involved in archiving. Great video! ❤

      You are absolutely right on both counts. Gloves should be a preference, and I figured that not all cels have authenticated certificates but it's also best to make sure it's the real deal. I have pinned your comment cause this is very good information for all to know. Thank you and happy collecting.

    I also collect animation cels, I recently started. I've always loved Bravestarr, 30/30 being my favorite character from the show. I have over several thus far and always on the look out for more! I keep mine in an Itoya binder in my art room.

      That's awesome! Did you go through animation legends as well? I'm very new to this word of collecting and I wanna find more, but I heard some not so good things using ebay. Are there any other sites that sell animation cels?

      @@JustAnAverageGirl83 My very first cel - a wonderful large frame head shot of 30/30 was purchased through Animation Legends. Sadly, I was later refunded due to them not being able to locate that particular cell. I was crushed. I have used some out of country sources like 'Celbase' located in the U.K. I purchased a nice cel from them. I have joined a few Face Book cel collector groups, where I connected with other collectors, I told them what I was looking for, and low and behold, someone had what I wanted and was willing to sell.. The group is called 'Animation Art Collectors'. I have used online galleries, the 'Charles Scott' gallery' and ' Hyena Gallery' to be specific. I Have purchased a good deal from ebay, As a matter of fact, I won a bid for two cels last night! I haven't had any issues with ebay.. I even found a set of character turn around sheets there!

    I actually just bought my very first cel today of my favourite character and episode for a great thankfuly deal and looked around for videos on how to take good care of cels, and I'm so glad I found your video! Very helpful and I also loved the parts where you showed us the cels you got! I cant wait to get my hands on my very first cel soon! I Dont think ill be getting more than 1, but this cel spoke to me so badly I just had to get it. @@JustAnAverageGirl83 It's a cel from Sailor moon of Mamoru! And indeed I am also looking out on frames and I think I might have to ask a local store about the exact thing I want and perhaps get one custom made. Those are wonderful cels especially the ones you connect with. Ive been collecting Cels more recently as they are 1 of 1 original pieces of history.. They are paintings of pop art at its best.. My fist cel was bought back in 1997 and never looked back. What a great hobby like comic collecting but unlike comics it’s only 1 and owning only one makes I really exciting!!! 🙂

      @@2hugebros241 Hell YEA! That was WB at their finest. it was the just when Batman's show was transitioning we get superman, and don't get me started on that Batman/Superman Movie. That was the most epic moment in animation history for me. Mind you I'm a batman all the way through, but that episode where superman was brainwashed by Darkseid and when he came to saw Turpin get killed...watching his anger and frustration...I felt that.

    Those cels will become damaged if the paper is on the back of those cels the paper will become bonded

      Ok so what do you put behind it then? And do you use microchamber paper at all?
      I think the best thing to do is a cel bag inbetween the cel and the background then into an itoya folder all together.
      But please correct me if I'm wrong? Normally what should a cel sit on top of before going into the itoya because I don't think it should be directly on top of the acid free itoya sheet.
      And Does putting microchamber paper on top of the cel ( and under the plastic of the itoya) do anything?

    • @JustAnAverageGirl83
      @JustAnAverageGirl83  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fair point, I have been looking into cel bags also but you would still have to change them periodically. Thankfully my cels have been safe. Because the itoya sheet (black paper and the plastic film in front are also acid-free. I haven't seen any negative signs. But I've been looking into other things like a temperature and humidity cabinet.
      Think of microchamber paper as acid-free absorbent paper like those silicone beads from shoe boxes. So in case your cel undergoes VS the microchamber paper will help with the odor.

    • @SouLAnimation
      @SouLAnimation หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JustAnAverageGirl83 So where do you put the microchamber paper? And the black itoya sheet in back/plastic film in front - are you not worried about the cel sticking to those on the front and back BECAUSE* they are acid free? Does acid free stop the sticking from happening?

    • @JustAnAverageGirl83
      @JustAnAverageGirl83  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SouLAnimation The plastic film in front is the same material as the comic book sleeves polypropylene. Yes, I placed the acid-free microchamber paper behind the cell like what you see in the video because I feel that it will maintain the odor and any other chemical-based issues that may occur. I would've done the same if I put them in comic book sleeves. I keep my folder flat in a cold, dry, environment where humidity is not a problem.
      This is what I've researched, as well as my personal choice based on the research. I am always open to learning new information from professional cel collectors as I am still new to this world.

      @@JustAnAverageGirl83 Sorry I thought I was responding to the original commentor. Ok I just found out from collectors on Rubber-Slug that you do not want to put microchamber paper behind it. Either in a cel bag individually or a bag cut open on 2 sides with the cel cellotaped in place to the top of the bag and the background placed underneath so the cel and bag are separated.. then into a larger cel bag..air removed then sealed.. then into an itoya. So complicated haha
