Definitely looking forward to picking this one up when released in the US. Per a post on BGG the designer said it will be coming in 2019 to the US with more news on that soon.
Between this and Barenpark, which is your favourite? Arraial is pretty much a Tetris and Dr. Mario hybrid because you're fitting the puzzle pieces together AND colour matching. That's a pretty cool combination. Spring Meadow looks like a great game (and I was initially looking at that one for my family), but the art style and theme of this game blows that one out of the water for sure.
Baren Park is a lot more interesting and fast. More interactive too and has more replayability thanks to the objectives and different park construction possibilities.
I haven't played BarenPark yet, but the downside for me appears to be set up (organizing all the pieces) and that it's more of a solitaire game- where everyone does their own thing. The way Spring Meadow has piece selection is pretty great, but it just looks so plain. Arraial definitely looks good. I would be interested to hear thoughts from people who have played both Arraial and Barenpark.
It isnt solitaire because: a) the good pieces are very limited; b) the objectives give more points to the 1st player, then 2nd etc, c) the same with the bear statues. So You have to see what the other are doing.
@Benjamin Spears Honestly, this game seems way more like a solitaire game than Barenpark. As Gustavo says, in Barenpark, a huge part of the game is trying to get things before your opponent does. In this, the only real interaction is deciding which pieces to give the next player (or in the later round, which 1 piece to NOT give them) and competing for the largest color areas.
I disagree. You can only interfere with the next player. That's it. I wish it was less solitaire with something to keep my interest between my turns. All you do is wait until it's your turn and then you know what pieces you can choose...
So if a game gets a seal of excellence you don't necessarily like it more than one that gets a seal of approval? Because Indian Summer got a seal of excellence and you like this better.
Well, that was when an "8" was a seal of excellence. We've raised our standards, thus the difference. Indian Summer would get a "seal of approval" today.
Actually, in this game specifically, Arraial is a Portuguese party/gathering each neighborhood does during its city festivities. Usually between June and August.
Apparently, 'rr' in Portuguese is pronounced like a heavy 'h' sound. But the sound sample on the page below puts the stresses on the first and third syllables, not the second. en.bab.la/dictionary/portuguese-english/arraial

Cool that this game is done by the designers of Madeira, Panamax, and Nippon - taking a break from super heavy games for a light tetris game.
