    Now that we're living in Hannover and not too far, we really want to get to Erfurt, especially because that's where part of my family is originally from! While it's not a huge city for visitors normally, your video really highlighted some awesome parts of the city. Thank you and can't wait to visit!

    This steeple belongs to the Ägidienkirche and the market square in front of it is the Wenigermakt. This Church is one of two remaining Bridgehead Churches of the famous Krämerbrücke. You walked right over it without recognizing that it is a bridge. At 3:39 it´s St. Michael´s Church. And at 4:05 you can hear the famous Gloriosa Bell ringing. Located in the Middle Tower of Erfurt Cathedral it´s the largest medieval church bell in the World. Cast in 1497 and weighing 11,45 Tons. I know Zeil am Main as well.

    So beautiful! I found the interesting fountain is called Raufende Knaben (scuffling boys) designed by Magdeburg sculptor Heinrich Apel in the mid-1970s.

    What is the difference between a convent and a monastery other than gender?

    • @MagnificentGermanywithDarion
      @MagnificentGermanywithDarion  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Monasteries and Convents are not interchangeable in the strictest sense, though they are in common usage.
      A monastery has a very distinct monastic purpose which, again in its strictest sense, does not include the idea of active religious. A monastery, for men or for women, is a place of prayer primarily.
      A convent can be the same thing, and it can also be a place that active religious live. It isn't common in the US to have male convents, but the term is popular in Europe. So while monastery can be interchangeable with convent, convent is not necessarily interchangeable with monastery.
