It could need that though these are all new this year and have not been used that much so I would hope would not gunk up that quick. They also need to be broken in properly which I have not done. I will need to watch some videos on engine maintenance as I have never done any of that but will be good to know. Thanks!
I always make sure to run each locomotive for a few minutes in each direction before changing any speed CVs. Some engines will speed up considerably in that time.@@Silverstatetrains
Good to know. I have noticed after running them for about 10 or so minutes they tend to speed up at the same speed step entered. I think I just need to run some trains.
Hey Cuz. Good to see speed match vid. Ive done a few if mine. Mixing a Kato w/Loksound with a TCS or Digitrax mobile only is interesting to say the least 😠 LOL
Thanks! I bet that is no fun at all. I hear it is good to mix all like engines with one another for that reason. Can still be done but just takes work. Sounds like you are learning the skills needed fast. You have a very nice collection going. I will get you the part numbers to my Kato stations soon.
Great job I want to make a bigger layout but I'm not good at electronics haha I picked the wrong hobby, your layout looking awesome . I have kato engines but I have found that I love to run my athearn rolling stock with my kato engines
Thanks! Once you start to break down the wiring basics, it starts to look less challenging. You can make your layout as big as you want just make sure to add a feeder wire every 3-5 feet and you should be good. Feel free to reach out to my email if you need a little help. I can do my best to assist. I love the Kato engines. They just work. You can simply swap out the Kato couplers with micro train couplers which work well with many other brands. Most n scale rolling stock are advertised with micro trains friendly couplers. It is a great hobby. Have fun with it. Thanks for the comment!
I can do that. There are some lessons I have learned about wiring I could share. Is there something in particular you are looking for that I could also try and cover. Thanks for the suggestion.
That is a good question. I have not technically broken them. They have been ran for a 10-15 mins at a time. I can try that though and see how it improves. Thanks for the recommendation.
Do you have a recommendation on what product to use for fastening foam to the would top of the bench work? Top plywood top is screwed and glue down now I need to a fix the foam Thanks for your input
I used titebond original wood glue to glue the foam to the wood and foam to foam. It works fantastic and can get a lot for a reasonable price. Hope this helps.
They’re close enough, I think. If you work longer you can get them closer. Later, you might prefer a slower creeping start for closer realism, but for now, it’s a go for consisting. Do they all have digitrax decoders?
As I progress in this hobby and learn more about it I very well may prefer that. Throttle step 1 appears to be very slow to me still, the one great thing about katos is they are very smooth at slow speeds, but maybe my perception of slow is off looking at it with a prototypical lenses. The level of ability to customize is incredible. All three Katos have factory installed digitrax decoders. I am shocked how different each one is though. My Athearns for comparison are like twins. Thanks for the comment.
All engines I have are brand new so far. They were also all factory DCC equipped except for my Kato NW2. That is the only one I have messed with so far.
Hit program esc 4 times then hit Enter the hit the number for CV! Then select what ever CV you want them hit enter and it’ll tell you what the value is set too
Hey which passenger stations do you have. Older Kato ones or newer ones but without the light kit ready feature? So hard to tell what models they make or still make 🤔
Ok the kits I bought were 23-105, 23-172, 23-171 & 23-170. I bought them off of caboosehobbies off of eBay. 23-105 was bought off of Amazon. Hope this helps.
@Silverstatetrains It sure does help! I'll look all those up. I'm trying to decide between getting these vs the newest DX versions that have light modules available for them but cost more plus light kits 🤪
I’m glad you like them. Micro Trains has a line of weathered freight cars so these were purchased new this way. I wish I could take credit. I love them though. Very nicely made. Thanks for watching.
Oh ok good to know. I will have to try that and see if I can read on the programming track. Thank you for letting me know. I will look into JMRI at some point. Baby steps. So much to learn.
I want to say I tried that as well but it has been a while since I tried to speed match or read values. I will for sure remember this though. Thank you!
I agree with you. The reason I did not in this case was engine 2583 just seems to be abnormally slow to me. It even sounds different than the other two engines. So I speed that one up. In the future, if I have a normal running engine and a rabbit, I will slow the rabbit down. Thanks.
Thank you it really did help me with my two p42 had to be speed matched
I am glad my video was able to help you out. Thanks for checking out my channel!
Nice video and good to see you again after an absence!
Thank you. I appreciate it.
2583 may need clean and lube,Kato locos are usually quite well matched

Great speed matching
Glad you liked the video!
Found this to be very helpful
I am glad you liked the video and found value!

What about a video on your thoughts on wiring?
I can do that. There are some lessons I have learned about wiring I could share. Is there something in particular you are looking for that I could also try and cover. Thanks for the suggestion.
Were those 3 locos broke in? 1hr forward and 1hr reverse that will help with setting up a consist for them to run together. Excellent job👍👍
That is a good question. I have not technically broken them. They have been ran for a 10-15 mins at a time. I can try that though and see how it improves. Thanks for the recommendation.
You can do this all in Ops mode. This is adjusting while operating.Instant feed back.Dont really need JRMI,or computer.
I will have to look into this. Thanks.

@@Silverstatetrains out of curiosity, was the slow one preowned?
All engines I have are brand new so far. They were also all factory DCC equipped except for my Kato NW2. That is the only one I have messed with so far.
The question is, how did all 3 run with them coupled together on one track?
Hit program esc 4 times then hit Enter the hit the number for CV! Then select what ever CV you want them hit enter and it’ll tell you what the value is set too
Sweet! I will have to try that. Thank you.
Since the upper level is small I would make it lift off. Much, much easier to clean under it when it is not there.
Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it.

Knowing you went with the lighted ones I think you picked well. Your stations look so cool.
Nice weathering on that rolling stock. How did you get it done?
I’m glad you like them. Micro Trains has a line of weathered freight cars so these were purchased new this way. I wish I could take credit. I love them though. Very nicely made. Thanks for watching.
hello silver state trains it's is randy and i like yours video is cool thanks friends randy 🛣🛣🛣🛣
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
You can only read CV's on the programming track. If using JMRi you need the NCE USB interface @ $50. You could build a DCC++ EX controller for less.
Oh ok good to know. I will have to try that and see if I can read on the programming track. Thank you for letting me know. I will look into JMRI at some point. Baby steps. So much to learn.
You can read and adjust. In ops mode you can only adjust.
Thank you!
Its cause u need to program on a test track not main or else ot wont show the value
I want to say I tried that as well but it has been a while since I tried to speed match or read values. I will for sure remember this though. Thank you!
And usually u wanna speed match to the slowest loco
I agree with you. The reason I did not in this case was engine 2583 just seems to be abnormally slow to me. It even sounds different than the other two engines. So I speed that one up. In the future, if I have a normal running engine and a rabbit, I will slow the rabbit down. Thanks.
