Great job on the stove. I have been wondering on the possibility of a propane bottle for a wood stove, and yours proves it. Thank you!

Great job, love it. Another way to save the bottom of the fire would be to raise that ash drain pipe ( which is another a great idea by the way) and lay sand in the bottom of it. I have done this in a fire where timber gets dropped in from the top, which has worked well. Thank you for sharing.

I put a 1/2” plate steel inside the stove so it’s raised 2 or 3 inches the ashes fall around the edges. The stainless steed bold and nut on the air intake will never sees up. Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate that.

Utilizing a layer of dry sand in the bottom of the stove is an excellent way to prevent burnout.
Get yourself one of those multitoothed clay tool for weeding the garden and use that to rake the hot embers forward when adding wood.
Sometimes you will find some charcoal left when refiring the stove. Just rake it forward and use as a bed for your kindling.

Like the idea of the inset square door, maybe a bit heavy duty for this application but hey it will last all the longer and i can't see it warping! I have a tank and am torn between upright and horizontal now when i make mine. Loved the video, wish i had all those tools. Dave UK

Great job. I took ideas from you and a few others and made one. It didn't take long but I used silver pipe and burned the coating off. I painted it black and use it as a tent heater. I love it. Thanks to you and others for the great idea.

You can also fill in the gaps by knocking the flux off of welding rods and tacking the rods in place. Then go over the rods with a few passes.

I've been burning wood for total home heating since 89. Let me say,, I envy your welding and cutting tools. :-) Good looking little stove! Two things come to mind. The flat plate door will probably warp over time, without a frame around it. And a grate in place of the flat plate, covering the bottom would improve the wood combustion, (having the air enter from below the grate.) Loved to fact, you don't let anything go to waste. (recycle all you can, and save money beside!)

A very nice hand made gift.
Can you shut down the fire by screwing in you draft plate?
If not it is a garage heater at best and you would need a door gasket to seal it up before it can be a house heater.

Nice stove. I used the similar design of draft knob threads once and found that smoke condensed on the (cooled by intake air) bolt threads and gummed them up (enough creosote on the threads and they wouldn't turn smoothly). Later designs, I had the nut on the draft knob with the threads sticking out the center of the knob. No more creosote on threads problem.

Love it, I can't find a stove small enough to fit inside my open fireplace so I'm going to build one. I've seen dozens of propane tank stoves but this one takes the cake! Is that a 4 inch pipe for a flue/chimney? I just need to find a propane tank! I'm thinking about using a milk jug but I'm pretty sure the metal is way thinner than a propane tank. My open fireplace burns so much wood! and puts out very little heat. Looking forward to actually being warm this winter.

When you have a big gap to fill on mild steel and you are welding with mig, best to try and build up weld metal off of each edge of the weld joint if possible, I typically run a few hot down hands for build up before I try to fill the gap if it isn't under dynamic load.
