I’m glad I’m not the only one who remembers RealArcade. It introduced me to RollerCoaster Tycoon. The 1-hour trial was annoying, but I enjoyed it!

So cool to see this. I remember seeing sega genesis games on there, particularly the sonic genesis games. This was my first exposure to them, so I played the crap outta the demos. Kinda crazy that they were licensed to be played on PC, when there wasn't an official port of those games to PC for more than a decade later.

I loved every bit of RealArcade. Found it in 2004 and played lot of the shareware games which the service offered along my "main games" on my PC and consoles like Halo PC, Halo 2, Half Life 2, Diablo 2, Ninja Gaiden, Tales of Symphonia, Neverwinter Nights, Sacred, Runescape 2 and Runescape Classic. Great times, great times.

Wow what a nostalgia trip! As I kid, I remember cheesing the demos via never closing the games. Most games I played wouldn’t boot me out after the hour has surpassed, so I would purposely keep the game open for DAYS just to play as long as I wanted for free 😎

every now and then i’ll remember another game i played as a kid on real arcade, and i’ll spend days on end trying to remember what it was. sometimes i succeed, sometimes not. i eventually found two i was looking for, the mortimer becket games and tropix 1 & 2, but some of the games i can’t recall are so generic i might never find them, like a match 4 colosseum game or some harvest moon ripoff

The reason why it still works on Windows 10 is because of how Windows itself was built. Think of Windows like an onion with layers of old legacy code. Windows 10 is nothing more than Windows NT with newer better stuff added over old legacy stuff; if you know where to look in Windows 10 you can actually find old icons from Windows 95 in it, Hell you probably could even find stuff from MS DOS on it (oh wait you can lamo).
