As you retry for BTO, remember your career will ascend too and BTOs / HDB Loans have income ceiling capped. You can find yourself in a situation where you are suddenly not eligible for BTO very quickly. So plan it properly or you’ll find yourself in a situation where you can only buy resale + take a bank loan. Bank loan = 5% upfront cash on your property. Taking into consideration if you do not have COV. Not everyone has hard cash to pay for properties.
I suddenly got a new job and was not eligible for BTOs and had to pay almost 40k cash for a resale.

The problem that young couples faced is the long waiting time for BTO of more than 2-3 yrs. Some applied BTOs many times but unfortunately not allowed a unit. Getting married, they will like to have their own flat to settle in, procreate and have a family quickly. Hence, they have no choice but to turn to resale HDB flats in the open market. If MND & HDB want to help these young couples, perhaps they should let these young couples rent flats from HDB in the interim while applying and/or waiting for their BTO.

Few years ago resale houses r high demand n once BTO build, demand low. GOV wanna singles/married couples to stay/buy BTO n afraid nbdy gonna stay at BTO. Longer wait for BTO once dey married n have to stay e current house till ready for key collection

Depending on individual cpf funds is sufficient for a resale. If not, 1. wait out on BTO, 2. opt to buy a smaller resale flat, n upgrade when u can.

Based on the example of this podcast regarding Farrer park n in terms of pricing, I will go with resale considering older hdb flats r bigger in terms of sq footage if one needs to own a flat immediately.
Question, why were buyers not successful in applying for a BTO flat, was it because buyers were choosy of the locations? If it is,then it’s on them.

buy a cheap and really small resale flat enough for 2 babies and dont take subsidy. Then apply for BTO and wait it out and sell your resale when BTO is ready. Small resale should not incur a big loss in the very worst scenario.
