    Two of the biggest complains of food are the amount of waste and ‘tanning’ of the water. Probably the largest producer of koi food is Coppens, some people swear by it and some moan about the level of waste and tanning. Coppens also provide many companies, some to their own specifications and then it’s repackaged. I do believe Queni is one of Coppens is customers.

    • @skeggy
      @skeggy ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Queni is coppens

      Aqua source is also coppens.

    • @skeggy

      @markpaine882 no its manufactured at the coppens factory to aqua sources recipie under licence the same as jpd.. its not a coppens Controlled recipie

    Hi Andy, Great video. That looks a great little sieve. The best thing I did was add a sieve to my pond, it keeps all the larger dirt out of the filter and makes it's life a lot easier. Take care, Terry.

    • @DerbyKoi
      @DerbyKoi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Terry, that's exactly what I'm looking to achieve, I live cleaning filter ( am i mad lol) just need to be able to leave the system fir a few days while holidaying

      I'd give it a good test mate, as I have to clean mine every day, but I do get a lot of rubbish in mine from the trees and other things.

    • @DerbyKoi

      I'm lucky with tree debris and it'll probably be a slower rate so hopefully I'll get longer between cleans 😊

    Hi Andy, we’ve used queni growth and colour recently and maybe a little early to decide on results, but for certain our water that was gin clear has gone to pot , with discolouration and general appearance, we’ll be changing food imminently, our use of saki has proven growth and clarity, we’re not a million miles away from you so you’d be welcome to come and see and discuss .
    Congrats on three years posting great content
    Cheers

      Thanks Allan, it does appear from the comments that there are a few that have similar issues with the kenco food, mine has improved since trying aquasorce. I think it's time for a change and upgrade maybe, I appreciate the visit offer, I'm swamped at work atm, but I'd love to visit for a chat, remind me in a couple of weeks and we'll try and sort something. 👍🏻

    Hi Andy. I have changed to Kenko this year (for the first time) and feeding the same mix as you, colour, growth and health in equal amounts. My water clarity has gone from crystal to a brown tint. Fitted a new UV tube but no difference so must be the food. Really happy with growth etc but clarity is not good. Great channel by the way. I’ve been using takazumi food and my koi love it. I’ve also added a compact sieve to my pond and it’s connected to my skimmer and returns to my moving bed. The amount of crap it collects is unbelievable it only cost me £51 on eBay money well spent a bargain as some of them where over £100.

    • @DerbyKoi
      @DerbyKoi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jamie, it clear it's my food causing issues, time for a change I think mate. Looking forward to fitting the seive, hopefully this year if I get time

    Hi Andy same sieve as I have. Never had it block, only clean it out when I remember. All the crud goes to the bottom leaving the screen clean. That's on a skimmer line though.
    I've been using Aquasource ultimate this year no probs at all.

    Hi Andy, I to use the Queni koi, Kenco food, have had the same issue, I actually bought two separate bags of the same food, and noticed one was a glazed pellet, and the other was a unglazed pellet, last year I didn't have the issue, but they love it, defo the food, my water has cleared more and still on a various Queni Koi mix.

    Hi Andy, I had that exact sieve working on my pond before I changed to a drum filter, great bit of kit. Couple of things - Be aware that the sieve is directional so if you put it in the wrong way up, it won't take out anywhere near as much as it should. Also, there should be 4 x rubber strips that clip onto each side of the sieve itself, hopefully you have them too 👍

    • @DerbyKoi
      @DerbyKoi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ray, so grateful to the person who gave it to me, really nice and knowledgeable guy. Hopefully I get time to fit it this year, so busy atm. Thanks for the info, don't remember seeing those rubber strips though 🤔

    Hi Andy mate , if your not feeding heavy then it will be the quality of the food changing , fish meal is becoming expensive, and some manufacturers are replacing it with poultry meal and other cheaper ingredients, I’m suffering from tannins my self but that is just down to the amount of food going in , playing catch up this season , Queni is made by Coppins but to Queni s recipe, it’s good food but I did find it coloured my water a tad ,
    Decent sieve buddy you will be going drum before you know it 😂

    I've had one of those sieves running on my skimmer line for about 18 years without problems and it is a great bit of kit. I have it set so that the top is about head height. It's not too difficult to get the screen out if space is short.
    I think if you have enough space to get a hand in to lift the inlet box off the screen (I find you only have to bend your fingers to get enough lift) you should have enough clearance to get the screen out horizontally with the other hand. The weight of any crude might make this more difficult.
    I have a 10000 litre pump set at 50% and I can leave it for a week. It does a really good job of pushing waste to the bottom of the screen and keeping the active part clear.
    My Estrosieve on the bottom drain needs a daily clear out and can't be left for more than 2 days but it is fed directly from the bottom drain, apart from an ineffective vortex (too small) in front of it, so it has to deal with a lot.

    • @DerbyKoi

      Thanks, mate. I appreciate the info, and it should do exactly what I want it to when I get the time to change things in the filter house. Stay safe, Andy 👍

    Hi Andy i keep goldfish I've found my water has been going yellow ISH couldn't understand why I mix my food so I haven't been able to pin point which food has been causing the water to go yellow luckily they don't seem to mind biggish water changes

    • @DerbyKoi
      @DerbyKoi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Julie, the tannins in the water won't harm your goldfish, the clear water is for our benefit 😀 I've done a simple test to find out which of my foods are causing issues, you'll see that in Friday's upcoming video. I believe a lot of food companies are now using cheaper ingredients due to costs 🤔
