I note this video was recorded in October 2021. Surprising to see though such a large percentage still wearing face masks at this time, as well as all the signage about wearing face masks and "keep your distance". Some 3 months after these restrictions were finally scrapped.

Having a girlfriend who lives in South Wales I regularly travel to Newport in South Wales and I've got to say the ride quality of these IETs is nothing short of appalling at times.

Very informative video Daniel, i've given you a thumbs up and subscribed as requested! Well I'm glad you enjoyed your first class experience; as an occasional traveller from Swindon to Paddington I have always used second class and in my opinion the seats are horrendous, the worst I have ever experienced on any form of public transport. They are unbelievably hard,bolt upright with a very short seat offering very little under leg support. Absolutely no comparison to the old 125s which had soft seats and much smoother suspension. Sorry but in my opinion these trains are a very poor replacement and for the fares that are charged I expect much better.

Spent 5 hours on one of these from penzance to London a few days back, I honestly didn't find them to be too bad, but I did have a spacious bay of 4 between 2 people so u could stretch out. I mean they're not groundbreaking trains, nothing spectacular about them, but they do the job I guess, the seats are fine in my opinion

Great video (I like the "new" trains), but suggest not using a white font for your captions on a light background, very hard to read

We're going to London from Penzance on a Sunday, the first week of summer holidays. Do you think it's worth upgrading on a Sunday? Your thoughts would be very welcome as we've never travelled first class before.

Hi anthea thanks for the comment. Depends, usually on Sunday all you get is a cup of coffee and a packet of biscuits, the lounge at paddington is nice though, and the standard class seats are pretty bad from London to penzance. I'd say it's worth it if it's under £20pp to upgrade.

What was your alternative route from Swindon and how late were you at Bristol Temple Meads

Only about 10 minutes late but not too sure where the alternative route was sorry.

Unfortunately I can't go back and change them as they're part of the video, I uploaded this video back in October when most of my videos were subtitles, I do voiceover nowadays. Sorry about that though

TBH gwr iet are properly the worst intercity train I've proerplly been on 2nd class i massively prefer 1st class on gwr

Never tried their standard class before on the IET’s, definitely something I’d be looking into doing. Their first class is pretty good. Hope you enjoyed the video.

I've been in standard class several times, Penance to Truro, Plymouth etc and the seats are hard.

@@antheabarter1440 agreed that's exactly where I travel on them but there just horrible and give you a dead bottom and a sore back so I just don't use the IET'S For standard anymore I need standard I use a HST Or if I want to go 1st sure a 802 will do 😆🤣
