It really does not matter what any of you want to believe or try to discredit about this breed. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) determined that the Kuvasz and the Slovenský Čuvač are separate breeds because the breeders looked for different things when they began to revive both breeds which came to near extinction during World War I and II. Go look at the studbooks and you will see very few Kuvasz survived and so did very few Čuvač. Yes if you want to go back centuries ago, most of this white Livestock Guardians had some similar ancestry. But the people who bred them looked for separate traits and bred to different standards. Most of the modern breeds we see today came to be developed with their looks in the past 250 years. I have Čuvač and have run DNA comparisons with Kuvasz and today these breeds are not the same. But some Kuvasz breeders used Čuvač in their lines after the wars and some Čuvač breeders used Kuvasz because there were not enough of these dogs. Also the Germans took them to Germany and often sold them under different names. The coats, heads, stop, and many other things are very different. You can argue all you want but today they are considered different breeds because the breeding studbooks only allow Kuvasz to breed with Kuvasz and Čuvač to breed with Čuvač.
I adopted a cuvac from a rescue. She is extremely sweet to people (especially kids) but becomes very aggressive and attacks other dogs. Anyone else have this situation with your cuvac?
protecting is in their nature. They will protect what is theirs (yours) from anything.... strangers, lynxes and even bears. Unfortunately other dogs too if you are not strict with their training. They are not easy dog breed to own.
cuvac ans slovak??? is it a joke? originaly its call kuvasz and from Hungary... slovaks try to stole all Hungarian things or just try to copy it. so sad. the dogs are nice but this is not the original breed.
+youmarci - Your comment is bad joke! ...You prove two things ... Ad 1 - you are suffering from a "Trianon" complex.... and Ad 2 - you really don't know anything about dogs , because between Čuvač and Kuvasz is many differences (for example, in size, coat structure , structure of head , ...etc.).
I've got a cuvac too, they're awesome!

Our cuvac has definitely got a curly tail - when she feels like it! Especially when she is prancing down the road, boing, boing boing!
They look as mine when he was a puppy. They are all handsome no matter whether young or grown-up.
great song for this cute vid

The one I had was mellow. he loved to haunt dear, however.
Cuvac, never run away from 🐻, also in situation he's very hungry can catch up something outside but never touched anything from farmers 🐶

How old is this breed? I can bet the original kuvasz is much older... Why do you need allways Hungarians staffs? Its so funny...
So who steal from who? Joke "slovaks"
We talk about breed not just about this dogs...
Slovak has thicker fur and is more family-dependent. Slovak and Hungarian have been bred independently.
