    I contacted Jeremy Hush a long time ago about his artwork, he says it's a mix of intentional and existing, but that even the old pieces were made with tarot in mind, and that the majority were the new pieces. So he might be eccentric, but he didn't just paste on a number. I'm always surprised, when such questions come up, that people don't go to the artist themselves and ask them. I've done that several times and they've always been happy to answer.

    Surrounded by so many decks and haven't found the perfect one (your ideal match). Such as life! I highly encourage you to make your own and for your very own eyes. There is a tarotuber that makes his own out of pictures from books, magazines, etc.. and laminates them, which I found something very fun to do (if you don't have the $ to publish your own). I regard my tarot decks as pieces of music, I don't always like to listen to the same song. Just as my soul chooses the music I listen to, I also let my soul pick the deck for that specific moment/time. Love your videos and your insights. Cheers!

      @@TarotandWitchery It's a lot of fun and it taught me so much about Tarot. And while I love it and use it happily, expecting one deck to be right for every occasion is putting a lot of burden on the poor thing. I deliberately leant in one particular direction with mine, picking the interpretations that suited the topic out of all the possible directions I could have taken... which means that it might not be my first choice for everything. It *did* make choosing images and coming up with meanings a lot easier.

    Llewellyn deck packaging makes me absolutely crazy. If I have to keep it in a giant box, it's just that much harder to use and I just end up never getting it out. Fine. Make a big box. Take up the space in the shop to capture eyes. But for Pete's sake give me a smaller tuck box or a drawstring bag. Anything to contain the cards so I can keep them handy and actually use them.

    What made me give up on the Chrysalis is it gets some UK folklore totally wrong. I forget which card as it was so long ago but it's the one with rags hanging from a tree. They represented this as celebration of getting a wish. AFAIK (I'm from UK) the clootie rags are not to celebrate getting what you want, but prayers to get something. Pagans feel free to correct me - loved the art, hated the erroneous appropriation.

The only decks I loved for the artwork but have returned anyways are the Hush tarot (no way I could figure this one out) and the Förhäxa (cards too big and cardstock too stiff). • @TarotandWitchery
      @TarotandWitchery  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The "pips" are the minor arcana of the Marseille style deck. These tend to be just 5 coins, 6 wands, 10 swords (hope you understand) instead of what the Rider Waite Smith tarot is, where the minor arcana is "illuminated" with pictures.
      A pipishdeck tends to have very few illustrations in the major arcana.

    • @reflectivetarot7612
      @reflectivetarot7612 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      'Pips' are minors without illustrations, just the suit symbol: five swords, nine pentacles. The RWS has illustrated minors - a whole scene for almost every card - and some decks kind of have pips, but still arrange them meaningfully, or add small scenes/backgrounds, so instead of five plain swords in the same style, it might have swords crossed and blood dripping from one and a couple more looking abandoned. Often decks aren't completely consistent: the RWS has eight wands with a generic landscape background, ten pentacles superimposed on the scene, and an ornament that looks vaguely like three pentacles in the 3 of Pentacles card. Many decks illustrate scenes without the suit symbol.

    I agree, Chris Anne's take on tatot is magnificent! The Light Seer's Tarot seems very diverse but it actually isn't that much. I put aside cards that had ppl of colour in it and on the other side white ppl. And literally 85% of ppl were white. Plus obviously the age and body diversity is missing too. The Unfolding Path tarot kinda feel similar (modern times people deck) but different and the diversity is there. The percentage mentioned above was swapped (ppl of colour vs white ppl) plus it has body, gender mutuality and age diversity too. You mentioned that there are grey haired ppl only in cards like - the Hermit (also love that it is a woman (crone) as the hermit, no? 😀) BUT that isn't completely true, this deck has an elderly man for the Page of Cups. Absolutely amazing. The mass market eddition is wonderful, in a nice box with a lovely booklet. Feel free to check out my deep dive into it 😊

    A lot of tarot publishers now go directly to kickstarter to look for reliably popular projects to reprint. I completely understand feeling iffy when the deck I backed soon after sells for 1/3 the price I paid, it has happened to me several times. In fairness, the Kickstarter version is exactly what the artist wanted, vs. the mass market where they have virtually no control over the card stock and other things. But my question is - what are they supposed to do? Not accept a contract and a chance for their deck to become popularized, thus giving them a chance to crate more decks in the future? I have a hard time holding this against creators. When we support a kickstarter campaign, we accept the risks - including never getting the finished product, or having that deck become mass market. It's just the nature of the beast. The ultimate goal of kickstarter is to support the artist, and I am thrilled for the creators I've backed who have gone on to have mass market reprints because this is what they ultimately wanted for themselves.

    The Hush Tarot would have been better as an oracle deck. In fact, I find that true for most artists work when the art was not intentionally made for the tarot deck. Personal opinion though.

      It would be a lovely oracle deck!

    Yes I hate the split decks. They never sit correctly. Its a shame. I love a good guidebook. Because I love reading how the creator see their cards. You can still read it how you like to but its just good to know what they were thinking. I love the light seers tarot and I am nearly 55 years old the ages don't seem to bother me at all. I also love the everyday witch. I like that the everyday witches has their back in only one way. Mainly because i don't read reversals but can understand if you did it could be annoying. Makes it easy for me to check their in no reserves in the deck before I start reading. I also love the huge colourful guidebooks the Lewellyn put out. Not sure how they could package it differently without making the guidebooks smaller. I would rather have them the same way they come now then to end up with a guidebook smaller etc. I always place their deck in a tarot bags and place their guidebooks on a shelf for quick reference if i ever need them. Or read the guidebook and then place it back into the box and place it on shelf. Having such a colourful and large box reminds me about the deck. Which makes me use it more often. I hate the tuck boxes. They always usually end up damaging your cards in the long run. Those decks also usually end up in a tarot bag. This video shows me how everyone has their things they like or hate about tarot or oracle decks. Which is always interesting. The fifth spirit tarot guidebook, I find is really good. I Love how the guidebook describes the court cards. I have never really bonded with the Unfolding Path Tarot which is strange as I totally love The Light Seers Tarot and people talk all the time about these decks being so a like. I also have both the indie and mass market copies of the Unfolding Path Tarot. And yes they came out on top of each other. Which was disappointing for me also. The Kickstarter copy has got a terrible box. YEEK! ......I also don't like pips decks either which you spoke about in your video. . Thank you for the video. It got me thinking.

      We are all so different! These are really just small things. Nothing huge, but just sharing!

    I never understand why ppl have to find themself in the deck. Like more body size, older ppl and so on. Cant we start appreciate ART for being just ART. if chris anne where to adjust her art to make everyone else happy and make it something else it would not be her deck, or her art. At this point every deck that comes out with humans looks the same. (Mostly). Im not reading to see a portrait art piece of myself.

      I hope you are not misunderstanding me. I don't NEED to see myself in every deck. I would LIKE to see myself more in The Light Seers Tarot as it is a favorite of mine!
      Many of the decks I have are simply for the art 💕

      For me it's not that I need to, or like to see myself in a deck, but to see 'the world I live in' represented. I am 55 years, I am big(ger), I am white, but have friends of different colors. I do have decks with only white (and young) people on it. I just grab them less and less. Except when it is a just for a fun reading or such. I love, love, love the Sufi tarot. Big cards, which I love, all kinds of people, colors and shapes. And a good guide book 👍🏻

      I agree and I am definitely not a supporter of this fat positive movement it's the most toxic movement ever and finally it's going down

    That indie vs mass market thing is very common. Unfolding Path, Lightseers, Ethereal Tarot... Highly unethical IMO.

      Just give me a good year until you sell! I want creators to do well, but maybe give me a moment with something you marketed as exclusive!

    Really love your take on the decks but I had to stop watching because that bell chime at every new deck was getting on my nerves.

      It's not on all my videos. I know how certain noises bother me, too!
