Great video Mickey. The mountain roads look great for bikers. Your brakes overheated because you was in neutral going downhill. NO, NO, NO. You need to be in low gear to use the engine to help the brakes. Those roads are steep and super twisty. Your bike looks heavy so it will strain the brakes. Use low gear and continue the hungry adventures safely my friend👍

Thailand has several bucket-list quality runs. The Mae Hong Son loop has 350 miles and 1864 curves winding through the high jungles. There's the Death highway starting in Mae Seriang, the Samoeng loop, and to be honest, NW Thailand is motorcycle heaven. People come from all over the world specifically to ride the Mae Hong Son loop, they usually rent motorcycles in Chiang Mai and do an overnight in Pai or Mae Hong Son. (Pai has more bars and restaurants than MHS)
Yeah Billy, you are right, it was a silly mistake to use neutral gear while descending. I was recording my voice on the way down as i wanted some atmospheric silence (and totally forgot about engine braking..)

Yeah Gene, I was stupid enough to use neutral gear while i was recording my voice on the way down (as i wanted some atmospheric silence).. and that gave too much pressure on my brakes, as I should be using lower gear while descending (so called engine braking), but i was so excited recording my long speech on camera that I forgot about it. Luckily i realized my mistake pretty fast and got back to the hotel with no surprises.

Dear Mickey. It's a classic and dangerous mistake to reduce speed by using the rear (foot) brake when driving downhill. Use the bike's engine in a low gear for it. I don't want to watch your next video shot in a hospital.

And while driving, keep both hands on the handles as much as possible. No need to point to things in front of you, as seen in this video. Living on the edge is exciting, but can be short too; in Thailand you never know where the holes in the streets are, if there is sand on the road just around the corner, or if a dog decides to cross the street just in front of you.
I drive a 1000cc bike.. I know from experience.

If you are heading to Doi Mae Salong in Chiangrai province. You must to eat Yunnan Hot Pot (Original Yunnan Chinese Hot Pot) that different from Muu Kratha. They came from China more than 60 years ago. They live in amphure Mae Salong and planting Olong Tea, Green Tea, Red Tea and more.

There was a ladyboy who owned a restaurant near the Shell petro station on Huay Kaew Rd,...she made a pumpkin khao soi was really great. Unfortunately, she married a Frenchman and moved to Paris.

Fang District , Doi Ang Khang has huge Royal project of King Rama 9 that not far from view point. Next time Pls visit dear. That is very good place. Highly recommened!!!

Privet Micky, I really felt the extreme mountain riding in this episode. I am happy you didn't take risk and halted before it's dark. At Koh Phangan 31st December night was rainy and road was wet. From Had Rin to Thong Sala there is stretch called 'Devil's Road', after full moon party I didn't take risk, parked my motorcycle at nearby Le Palais Hotel and took a shared song thew taxi to my thong sala hostel. Next morning I collected my motorcycle. IDP, Travel Insurance & safety precautions are three things one must consider before renting a bike in Thailand.

That last series of switchback curves on 1249 before you get to the checkpoint up top is intense. The checkpoint is a border checkpoint, I've seen them searching Myanmar cars with one guard holding a shotgun several times. At 18:43 if you turn right there it puts you on 1178 which is a less dangerous road back to 107 in Chiang Dao. I used to live in Qingdao in China, where were you?

It sounded like you were coasting downhill in too high a gear (hopefully you were not just coasting in neutral as that is super dangerous) and using lots of brakes, instead of engine compression to slow yourself down. Drop down a gear and use the compression braking of the engine to save your brakes for that moment when you need them. Loving the journey!
Yeah at the beginning i was descending using neutral gear (as i was recording long speech and wanted to make it quietly (idiot 😄😄)), so yeah it was the reason.
My brains got totally frozen to get such crazy idea 😅

The yunan dessert that you had, I think the black stuffing was made of black sesame seeds, mixed with peanuts. As it’s common for Chinese to use sesame seeds for dessert 😊

I've lived in Thailand going on 6 years, everything is super cheap, everything! To get a good idea of what tents, cottages, and mats cost, I suggest you go on the Doi Inthanon website. Doi Inthanon is Thailand's tallest mountain and they have everything you need for camping. It also has 7 huge waterfalls, markets, good food at FOOD at INTHANON, and the garden at the King and Queens chedis is mind blowing all year long.
Hi Heidy, thank you for a good question! A tent cost here just 200 Baht, however you might need to pay extras for pillows, blankets, sleeping bag and so on, as I've seen some people were coming with their own pillows 😁
