I have been stuck on Genesis and how much we have destroyed Gods creation with our inability to deal with the knowledge of good and evil and how that plays out throughout the rest of the Bible. I wouldn't say that God is in love because that term resembles man's fallen way of selfishness. Martin Luther's stature in religion came from Holy Mother Church who trained him. He turned on Her, thinking that he didn't need Her.

Knowledge of good and evil was supposed to be a reward for obedience, instead humans mistook it for a tool to acquire power.
The fruit of the forbidden tree was not evil, since God made nothing evil. It was very likely supposed to be consumed together with the fruit of the tree of life, for full likeness to God in both moral understanding and length of existence, but only after a period of willful obedience to God.
This way, humans would not have opened their eyes on their inadequacy but on their virtue. So they would have gained knowledge of good and evil from the safety of obedience to God and rejoiced in their virtue for having done so.
The moral of the story is that even if you were given God-like powers, that alone couldn't save you, only obedience to God could. Because, to this day, even though all people know intuitively right from wrong, they still convince themselves to do evil and call it good.
Obedience to God places morality under God authority, so you are always assured you're doing the right thing because you're grounded in His infallibility.
Knowledge is good but it turns into a curse and a constant accuser without obedience to God. Knowledge cannot save you, only obedience can. And Jesus demonstrated this most practically by going to the cross, against all of His natural impulses and foreknowledge of His future ordeal that overwhelmed Him in Gethsemane.
And by the way, this is what St.Paul meant by "the curse of the law". Knowledge of good and evil alone does not bring everlasting life, because one can have perfect knowledge and still be in sin, due to their imperfect nature. That's why life has its own separate tree in Eden, because it doesn't come from moral understanding but it's simply a gift from God, denied to those who disobey Him.
The two trees in the middle of Eden are symbols for the Old and the New Testaments. One gives knowledge but also despair, because of human impotence to achieve the perfection required by God. The other gives eternal life, on the condition that one does their best to obey God.
