I'm also a family man and understand how difficult it can be to juggle family, work and hobbies. You’re wiring videos have helped me out so much! I have a virago project currently and the wiring was causing me a massive headache! I was trying to use the old harness, after watching your videos I have decided to start over and do a bare bones layout like you did!

Fantastic video! I would not sweat the views its that time of year people are out and about and that happens. The video quality and content are smashing as always!
Pro tip. for those long wires you are running from back to front which you are taping together, try this: tighten the very ends into a drill and run the drill till they twist up. This will make them easier to tape up and it removes all the "kinks" This is what we did to make custom RCA cables when I was doing custom car audio installs. Wee used this process for installing vehicle security systems as well.
awesome, well done! i just binge watched all of the parts :) i will have to do some troubleshooting of the electrics of a supermoto i just recently bought (brake lights and indicators don't work, and the previous owner removed some other parts of the original wiring harness as he used the bike for racing and not on the street), but there's a lot of information that i could learn from your series of videos, that will make this less of a taunting task :)
One more thing. I am really curious, could you follow what I was doing after watching all the vid's at ones? I never done a series like this and I really was hoping that you also really could follow every step or maybe even every wire. I really wonder if it landed as it was supposed to. And if not, which part was hard to follow? Hope for some feedback, thanks!
@@chiefpepdesign majority was easy to follow, yes.. there were some parts where i thought that changing wire-colors was a bit unclear at first (nice thing about videos is that you can replay them if you get a bit uncertain), but i guess that also had to do with the colors coming from the switch or the headlight unit.. and for instance for knowing the wires that come out of the headlight unit or the switches, you knew the correct color-coding already, which is something that watchers might have to figure out for their own bike first.
@@cdh79 Aha yes indeed. I did cut out a lot of scenes to make the the video more bearable to watch. There were these scenes where I measure/test the switches inside the unit. Now I realise that these kind of scenes also help. I did try to leave is some parts where I (I think) kind of try to explain 'look if you switch this, this happens'. So then you know which color or wire you need. Can't really remember. But thanks for the feedback! That helps.

I'm only now finding your videos and their fab. Electrical engineer by trade but trying to work out motorcycle wiring is totally different. I have an fj1200 and the solenoid only has a live in and out for the starter and ground as the switch. My question is how do I isolate the switch from my handle bars so it will only work when ignition is on many thanks.
Like the build and vids but I had to rewatch the section you were talking about your brakes to make sure I heard you correctly.... Please wire up a rear brake switch and re evaluate your braking technique the rear brake should be used all the time, your leaving 30% of your braking potentional on the table not using it and in many circumstances it should be your main brake. ( trail braking and decelerating quickly in a curve are just two seniaros that come to mind. I'm talking from 30 years of riding experience many of which has been as a riding instructor....
Psycrow11 I know I know. I knew this was gonna come. Don't worrie. I always catch the rear brake a bit with the front. But in traffic there will be nearly no moment I won't use the front brake so the brake light will always light up. That's more my point. If I turn in a street or manouvre through traffic I will only use rear (But that's no hard braking which needs brake light) And yes in case of emergency I will use the rear as an extra. But overall it's front. And maybe I will prepare rear brake wires for the future. I've had a lot of advanced riding courses aswell over the last 23 years too. But thanks for the concern! 👍
Hi, I watch your videos with great attention, great work, it's awesome. Might you help me? I am doing the same job with a small motorcycle YAMAHA 250, I need to know what diameter the standard electric cable is used, my motorcycle is far from my house and I can not see it in a while. Thank you.
Cool looking bike coming up! I have an issue with the exact same speedometer. RPM' shows fine when the engine is cold but after a while when the engine has warmed up the RPM reading is acting weird. When not driving or pulling the clutch so that the engine RPM drops to idle the speedometer shows 0 RPM reading or somewhere between 0 and 800 RPM for a few seconds before it comes to the proper idle speed (950-1000 RPM). Any ideas what can cause this? Just installed the speedometer during winter and has only 350km on it. Bike is XV 750 -93. Thanks in advance.
@@chiefpepdesign Yes, yellow in the gauge. White is for the speed isn't it? Speed is working fine with the optical sensor. Is it possible that TCI is failing when it warms up?
Sorry for a bad formulated question. I mean what size do you generally use on your bike. Maybe you could make a video on that. What mm2 you use for each thing. Like 1.5mm2 for headlight and so on :)
@@sturutter3378 they are ok for two pins. But when you want to have more cables on one connector, I prefer the connector to be flat instead of stacked and becoming square. The flat connectors are easier to hide under your fueltank. And once going with one type it's not nice to mix it up. But offcourse, it's everybody's own choice!

I scratched my head too when I heard that. I'm always on my rear brake. There are many times when it's my main brake.

How did you connect it?
@@chiefpepdesign Orange wire coming from the TCI and coil is connected to the RPM pulse on the gauge.

Flasher relay is a Kellerman. Handlebar switches are of a Fazer 600

@@TommyKarstrom 12, 14 and 16 gauge wires. The 16 are the lights and stuff. The others get more 'heavy load'
Love those superseal connectors but they are so bulky.
But they are the best. And better than the original bulky ones...
I actually prefer using "deutsch connectors", they do an 8, 10, 12, which are nice for handlebar switches / speedo.
