I'm pretty sure it's based off Seifer's taunt mid FF8 when you face him and Odin gets KO'd. That and it's called Royal Guard because Seifer always wanted to be in one as a knight.

Gunbreaker: The class Tanks have always wanted to be and all the DPS wish they could be. Will definitely encourage some players to play tank~ Really happy to see that this class won't be overly complicated.

In Very Merri's video of GNB, he uses Sonic Break and it rolls the GCD. It might've been a bug that was overlooked though or the tooltip was wrong. Hard to say for certain
Right now it definitely seems bugged with it rolling the GCD when the tooltip states that it shouldn't, just like Gnashing Fang doesn't. Hopefully this is just due to Sonic Break being bugged in this build of the game, and not something that's been left as a complete oversight into the release version.
I have always been a DPS since day 1, I was disappointed that Gun Breaker wasn’t a DPS but this video has just convinced me to start tanking once a Shadowbringers, thank you Larry-kun.

Ok so: -Sonic break got sorta buffed (300 potency with 90 potency 30 sec dot, at double cooldown) -burst strike got buffed (from 450 to 500) -No mercy got buffed (from 10% to 20%) -continuation got buffed if I'm not mistaken (about 100 more potency per follow up) -blasting zone got buffed (from 700 to 800) -superbolide got buffed (from 420 sec to 360 sec) -heart of light got nerfed (from 15% to 10%) -camouflage is the same Overall I'm happy with what we got
I think the reason the mitigation tools are a bit less strong is because GNB seems to have more regens and shields on itself. At least, that's usually how these regen/shields tanks work in mmo's :)
Superbolide is HG that reduces your HP to 1. The extended duration allows for regens to carry you back to max HP while giving you more immunity duration in exchange. Idk seems just fine. If you're immune to damage for that long, you'll be at max HP if a regen or a fairy can heal you
Don't forget you can regen yourself, which means you can use Superbolide and then use the regen to bump up your HP by yourself. Plus the fact that Dancer also has a heal, it's AoE and it also triggers from their Dance Partner [which will most likely be a melee], there's a lot of ways to heal up.
I notice the wording of Superbolide implies that its shunts your HP to 1 when you use it. So unlike Holmgang or Hallowed Ground, which can somewhat be used without risk, if you use Superbolide while your healer is dced you just screwed yourself over. Literally the most risk/reward immunity cool-down.
Sonic Break "Doesn't share a recast with any other action". If the test build isn't working as intended, this should mean the final iteration is just an OGCD Weaponskill like Empyreal arrow.
In short Gunbreaker share limits from Squall and Seifer as moves. Divine Rough: First Squall Limit Break Fated Circle: Second Squall Limit Break Blasting Zone: Third Squall Limit Break No Mercy: Seifer Limit Break when playable Demon Slice: One of Seifer Limit when fighting him as a boss in Disc 3 What is missing is Renzokuken which is the base Limit before the extra one for Squall, Lion Heart which is Squall's final Limit and Bloodfest which is another of Seifer's boss limit. Fire Cross is not included since you can't really do it alone without using No Mercy and Zantetsuken Reverse is not really an official Limit of Seifer.
Gunbreaker does have Bloodfest it adds 2 Cartridges to your Powder Gauge. Also we technically have Renzokuken with Continuation skill since Renzouken translates into Continuous Sword. I wouldn't be surprised if it was called Renzokuken in Japanese client.

it's also pretty close in line with goring blade.(if goring blade was a 15 second dot it would do around 369 potency in dmg) If they actually end up having it get you a charge of ammo or what ever it's called I think that would make it worth it.
Self healing/shielding tanks are tricky to balance. end up being really strong in party content, but weaker that other tanks in progression content. speaking from my experience in WoW a few years back.

A Bolide is a meteor that explodes in the atmosphere. A Superbolide is just a really, really fast Bolide. So, maybe the flavor of the ability is that you make an atmosphere around you that shatters attacks that try to land?
Superbolide is actually reduced HP to 1 and grant the effect of Hallowed Ground right? As per tooltips explanation, renders you impervious to most attacks is the same as Hallowed Ground. Holmgang would be "Most attack cannot reduce your HP to less than 1
They turned Squall into a Job Class. This is fucking badass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And perfectly timed with FFVIII Remastered. Someone at Square-Enix is doing Gods work. FFXIV, is the only game in history that I agonized for not being able to play.
The description of Sonic Break made it look like it would be an OGCD dot, which would account for its lower potency. If it is OGCD and adds a cartridge on release, it will be an amazing ability.
Nope never been a Tank. it's too intimidating, it looks like lot of pressure, and they attack slowly. No thanks there's no Tank job that I will ever lik- *New Gunbreaker class* *Suits up* W-well it's basically a DPS so this doesn't count.

A lot of it is in knowing the dungeons, which is tough. BUT Tanks are becoming way more accessible with the Stance change (stances are now only for enmity, not really any dancing with them), so if you can find some friends, I'd suggest giving it a good try once ShB hits. You'll do fine.
@4ttitude tanking isn't that bad, just keep your buffs up, keep your stance on and keep the enemy's attentiong and do a lttle research into dungeons before hand so you know what to do and your golden. Can't stress it enough about learning dungeons beforehand though. Like check the wiki for what bosses do what and what activates what as well as maybe some guide videos on which paths to take. It helps SOOO much as a tank since you're the leader and it gives you an advantage going in.
Well, you said it yourself, this is a test build and numbers are subject to change. We'll have to wait until the official release of Shadowbringers before we can truly pass judgment on it, but so far I'm liking what I'm seeing
PLD is greater when it comes to utiltiy imo with a way better immunity. I think a shorter cd or extending the duration to 10 like hallow would be fine. Just worried about activating it too late and getting 1 shot bc you're at 1 hp.
@@taylormaddox5198 I play all the tanks and PLD has a lot of utility for the party so its nice that the tank has a immunity that is requires no follow up (ie. Living dead needs a full heal, WAR cant move and needs heals and now GNB needs healing after it drops to 1) so this I feel is good for Gunbreaker given (again) how much they can heal and shield themselves
Slight correction Larry, Superbolide is actually a variant of Hallowed more than Holmgang, because it makes you invincible for those 8 secs if I'm reading right. And the more I think about it, this is actually a good Ultimate defensive despite what it seems because it has the same leveling of Boss Breaking potential of Hallowed, but more emergency use like Living Dead that makes it equally viable for both. The only thing is you should communicate to your healers what you intend to use it as before hand since if you use it like Hallowed, they need to be ready to get you stable while it's up, and if you use it for emergencies, you still need to tell them so they don't use their big heal CDs carelessly and have you waste it on Superbolide.
Larry muh dude... You'd use the dot. It's stronger than the average potency of your 1-2-3 combo + burst strike (from the ammo you get on the 3rd gcd) which is 200+300+400 + 450 = 1350/4= 337.5 VS 350. Of course, if the boss was about to jump or die, you'd go for the burst damage and forgo the dot, but fir the most part you'll want to use the dot. It definitely could use a a bit more oomph, though, to make its worth more obvious. If it does give the ammo, then it's obviously a gain.
Literally the first line is all I needed to hear to be 100 % sold. Was already going to switch from DPS to Gunbreaker due to shorter queue times, raid priority, and FF8 being my first Final Fantasy, but that seals it.

I think the mitigation cooldowns appear weaker because you're undervaluing the self-generating shields.
Self healing/shielding tanks are tricky to balance. end up being really strong in party content, but weaker that other tanks in progression content. speaking from my experience in WoW a few years back.
You said Sonic Break is bad because its a GCD, but in the tip it mentions that it doesnt share a recast timer with other actions.
it might have been bugged in the test build, I'm sure it'll be fine in 5.0
the way it doesnt share recast timer with other actions meaning it's like bard's Empyreal Arrow, meaning you can use it off your gcd, but since it's a weapon skill, it got affected by your skill speed stat. higher skill speed = faster cooldown
Correct, the way the tooltip is worded it should act like empyreal arrow, but in the build I played it was on the gcd
Me, a WHM main seeing this over two years later: "You forgot to add that Superbollide has the secret added benefit of pissing off your healer, especially if you use it immediately after a WHM uses benediction on you."
A Bolide is a meteor that explodes in the atmosphere. A Superbolide is just a really, really fast Bolide. So, maybe the flavor of the ability is that you make an atmosphere around you that shatters attacks that try to land?

Superbolide is actually reduced HP to 1 and grant the effect of Hallowed Ground right? As per tooltips explanation, renders you impervious to most attacks is the same as Hallowed Ground.
Holmgang would be "Most attack cannot reduce your HP to less than 1
They turned Squall into a Job Class. This is fucking badass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And perfectly timed with FFVIII Remastered. Someone at Square-Enix is doing Gods work.

I like this tank, with all the healing, regen and shielding, i feel like i would never need to heal that guy. Eos adjust, while i watch netflix
The description of Sonic Break made it look like it would be an OGCD dot, which would account for its lower potency. If it is OGCD and adds a cartridge on release, it will be an amazing ability.

A lot of it is in knowing the dungeons, which is tough.
BUT
Tanks are becoming way more accessible with the Stance change (stances are now only for enmity, not really any dancing with them), so if you can find some friends, I'd suggest giving it a good try once ShB hits. You'll do fine.

@4ttitude tanking isn't that bad, just keep your buffs up, keep your stance on and keep the enemy's attentiong and do a lttle research into dungeons before hand so you know what to do and your golden. Can't stress it enough about learning dungeons beforehand though. Like check the wiki for what bosses do what and what activates what as well as maybe some guide videos on which paths to take. It helps SOOO much as a tank since you're the leader and it gives you an advantage going in.
This actually explains the job a million times better than any " guide" out there in the last months

Well, you said it yourself, this is a test build and numbers are subject to change. We'll have to wait until the official release of Shadowbringers before we can truly pass judgment on it, but so far I'm liking what I'm seeing

I feel like this is a dumb question, but it does use heavy armor like the other tanks right? It's job armor looks pretty light in comparison
Personally with all the heals/shield/midigations it has... That immunity is balanced enough I'd say.
PLD is greater when it comes to utiltiy imo with a way better immunity. I think a shorter cd or extending the duration to 10 like hallow would be fine. Just worried about activating it too late and getting 1 shot bc you're at 1 hp.
@@taylormaddox5198 I play all the tanks and PLD has a lot of utility for the party so its nice that the tank has a immunity that is requires no follow up (ie. Living dead needs a full heal, WAR cant move and needs heals and now GNB needs healing after it drops to 1) so this I feel is good for Gunbreaker given (again) how much they can heal and shield themselves

Slight correction Larry, Superbolide is actually a variant of Hallowed more than Holmgang, because it makes you invincible for those 8 secs if I'm reading right. And the more I think about it, this is actually a good Ultimate defensive despite what it seems because it has the same leveling of Boss Breaking potential of Hallowed, but more emergency use like Living Dead that makes it equally viable for both. The only thing is you should communicate to your healers what you intend to use it as before hand since if you use it like Hallowed, they need to be ready to get you stable while it's up, and if you use it for emergencies, you still need to tell them so they don't use their big heal CDs carelessly and have you waste it on Superbolide.
Superbolide drops you to 1hp upong activation so healers have to drop their big CDs on you.
Is a worse hallowed ground.

Larry muh dude... You'd use the dot. It's stronger than the average potency of your 1-2-3 combo + burst strike (from the ammo you get on the 3rd gcd) which is 200+300+400 + 450 = 1350/4= 337.5 VS 350. Of course, if the boss was about to jump or die, you'd go for the burst damage and forgo the dot, but fir the most part you'll want to use the dot. It definitely could use a a bit more oomph, though, to make its worth more obvious. If it does give the ammo, then it's obviously a gain.

Literally the first line is all I needed to hear to be 100 % sold. Was already going to switch from DPS to Gunbreaker due to shorter queue times, raid priority, and FF8 being my first Final Fantasy, but that seals it.
With everybody switching to GNB and DRK, good luck with those queue times.
@@UncleButterworth I mean if we ever reach the point where queue time for Tanks are longer than DPS, then god help us all, but also I'll be gleefully cutting down my foes with my Samurai.

not as great as the BLU drill cannon which does 420 potency if the enemy is stoned.
