During his gang years, john was clearly the less good in his skin of the two, the most struggling... Arthur saw his life clearer near his end and died feeling redeemed thanks to john and his family

To put it into perspective of how sad it is… RDR1’s story is way closer to the epilogue than the epilogue is to the prologue of RDR2. That is just sad that it was only 4 years of happiness… 4 YEARS!!! Thats the same amount of time as the start of covid was to now.
RDR2 is such a fantistic game. I know alot of people dont like the epilogue but it one of my favorite parts of the game. It ties everything into RDR1 so well. I love helping John get Beecher Hope established but its so bitter sweet, knowing John only has a little bit of time before the sins of his past come calling.
Thing bout Arthur is that he not only redeemed himself but he showed others how to as well. Those 4 years John spent were to redeem himself so he doesn’t die a terrible father and husband that nobody’d miss. Mr Marston died a man who lives and dies by family because Arthur showed him the value of brotherhood and familial bonds.
That just wouldn’t work the whole reason rdr2 worked is because rdr1 established the gang from the past but left a lot of mystery to it which made it work as a game but there’s no mystery like that for the time before rdr2 and there would be no stakes because every character would have to survive the game

The worst part is some of those last years were spent trying to fight back against the life he previously lived instead of watching his family grow into the new life Arthur herded them into.

He shot 3 shots which the strange man AKA DEATH or GRIM REAPER Made it certain that Abigail, uncle and him die but the last jammed probably why death decided not to 3th degree kill him bye making someone unknowingly kill him at his will.
Arthur gave his last breath to save john. Only for him to commit the mistake of going after Micah, which led to Ross finding where he is and starting the events of red dead redemption
John did so much for the government in rdr1, helped so many innocent people, became famous, then he just died. He became a really good man and then they just killed him. He deserved better.
