Dhu al-Qarnayn is depicted as building a large barrier out of iron blocks. This is a large-scale project involving iron, such as was not undertaken during the Bronze Age, or before; such a project would only have been undertaken during the Iron Age, when people had developed the practice of using iron on a large scale. This means Dhu al-Qarnayn lived after the time of Sayyiduna Musa, peace be upon him, and hence after 1200 BCE.
One report from Sayyiduna 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, says he was a black king. Allah knows best!
