After the release of Live-A-Live, and the announcement of Dragon Quest 3, I'm hoping we'll be seeing even more remakes from Square using that style. Especially if they use it as an opportunity to localize more SNES RPGs that never made it outside Japan.

They did it with Gen 5 with animated pokemon sprites and 3d environment to move around with the 2d style but everyone was shitting on Gen 5 and wanted 3D pokemon games and not the sprites style

Pokemon's strongest quality is 2D abstraction, it's what Gamefreak's artists specialized and honed in on for decades with manga/anime influences being the fundament. Even in the DS era they carefully mixed the 3D with 2D just to add depth and nothing more, just to keep the 2D in the forefront. The moment they were forced into full 3D you can immediately tell they had to make compromises in their aesthetic and visual strengths, regardless of the graphical fidelity getting better over time.
unfortunately HD2D is a square enix trademark. However it is possible that Square Enix and nintendo could collaborate to make one. It would be something like Pokemon Conquest. A collaboration between Koei Tecmo (Atelier series and Fatal frame) and nintendo. The chance is low but never 0

Ecruteak city music means a lot to me when I was a kid. Figuring out I need to use the watering can to water the sudowoodo to get it to go away before I can reach the city. After trying multiple playthroughs too. The moment I got to ecruteak the music is like a celebration for me and an achievement being unlock when I was a kid. Hits hard whenever I hear it.
this is really really well done, and you desereve to be applauded for this work! but, and i hate to say it, i feel like something gets a little lost in translation with all the bloom. i realize it's the JRPG style, but the greens that are present don't get a chance to shine, and i think the light and dark greens are such a fundamental part of ecruteak's flora. without it, it doesn't quite look like ecruteak, it comes off more generic. the green stands as a strong foundation for the rest of the colors, and i think it kind of needs that contrast of color to make the reds pop all the more. in the future, I would challenge you to try and achieve a similar color composition to HG/SS's depiction. i think finding that middle ground would make this project look incredibly polished, professional, and impressive.

I bought and brought home Octopath 2 last week. Still haven't finished the game, it is massive. The amount of content it has is amazing. Haven't gotten it to the end yet, but I'm already recommending it to my circle of friends.
This brought back a core memory as a child. Backseat in the car playing my red version and squinting my eyes trying to see with what visible light i get from lamp posts on the road.
Crystal was my first pokemon games. I found my self always return to play it either with emulator or gameboy every now and then. But this is something else. Good job man. I would really appreciate some remake with this kind of graphic style. As an oldtimer, that 8bit style hit hard man. I can feel the nostalgia back in the day when i just got my gameboy haha
