Cow Creek & Blue Range Huts - Overnight trip in the Tararuas

On this trip I head into the Tararuas from Kiriwhakapapa Campsite to stay overnight at Cow Creek Hut, returning via the same track and visiting Blue Range Hut on the way out.

An area that was almost like my backyard for about five years. Now I'm living in Perth I really appreciate seeing it again like this - my sincere thanks. Excellent choice of background music too!
Blue Range Hut was built in 1954 by the Masterton Tramping Club and is still maintained by them. The 'medical' signs come from the old Masterton Hospital - and the connection is that several of the most long-serving and dedicated club members were senior staff at the hospital. Many club members have quietly made trips up there over the decades doing small repairs and large. I once spent a weekend replacing the windows with a group in about 2012 IIRC. It's good to see the place still pretty much in good order - but it takes care and more than a bit of love to keep these wonderful old buildings going for so long.
