How To Replace Erg Chain and Sprocket on Concept 2 Model C/D/E

- This video shows how to remove and replace the chain and sprocket on the Concept 2 indoor rower, models C,D, and E. Keep in mind if you should always replace the sprocket on the erg at the same time you are replacing the chain, since they wear together and if one needs replacing the other likely does as well.

You made it look easy to get the axle out but how do you break that nut free? The axle just spins when I cranky on it
I’m having the same problem and he just skips over this problem in the video. I can either get the sprocket loose or the nut but not both.
I think he should have removed the old chain first, and then replaced the sprocket, and then installed the new chain last. Less messy.

You had to of locked the axle down so it didn't spin, how did you do that?

how do you remove the sprocket when its stuck on there. obviously you took apart the erg previously to the video since it's not that easy to remove
He mentions penetrating lubricant. The problem with holding the axel by the nut is it tightens the nut too much. What finally did it for me was a combination of penetrating lubricant, standing on a pair of pliers with the axel in its jaws, and using a hammer to knock the sprocket free.
Ok I see, the chain was still on for you, it was off the chain ring on mine and that's why it was spinning

this looks like a total nightmare. Has put me off ever changing these myself.
Using his water pump pliers and adjustable end wrench backwards is a little cringy.
Just crazy how expensive these are. No elegance at all in the design, it just looks like a quick and dirty thing. I'd rather get the waterrower.

All the parts are still available to keep my 2003 model running - I guess quality engineering and excellent manufacturer support is what you sign-up for with a concept 2..
These machines are TOP NOTCH.
you should clean your flywheel before putting the cover on. your machine is pretty dirty to begin with anyway
