  • Professor Thomas Metzinger might be the important philosopher of mind alive today. In this episode of Active Inference Insights, he and Darius dive headfirst into the murky, muddy waters of self-models, intentionality relations, consciousness metaphysics, phenomenology, and, last but not least, the question of whether there can be such a thing as a pure awareness state. This last question is the central topic of Professor Metzinger’s new book, The Elephant and the Blind.

Apart from reading his books, I try listening to Metzinger's interviews, TED talks or lectures daily. It's like listening to affirmations, except it's not bullshit and as you said, Metzinger is one of the if not the most important philosopher of 21st century. He changed my perspective on being. Metzinger and Schopenhauer are the only people whose wisdom gave me one of those a-ha! moments that totally change you and I'll be forever grateful for that.

I’ve zero background in science, philosophy, computation, etc, but this entire emerging field is fascinating, and it’s validating intuitions I’ve had about perception and consciousness since I was a teen. It’s also allowed me to rediscover ancient wisdom with a far more open mind.

I want to thank to Thomas for all hard work he did so far. He deserve to have more relax. But I have a hope for be able to see him more in conversations, especially with less formal settings. I think we need more interactions within society with people like him that have this level of intellectual honesty and are able to provide clarity to vague philosophical concepts.
Thank you very much for interview. 🙏 And I will wait for the second part. It's nice to see two great minds piercing through the deepest intellectual discurse together. Especially if it's collaboration of new and older generation.

If you were looking for the next Oracle, Buddah, Elvis, Einstein wouldn't you want the search loop to be conscious of seeing such a person arrive and thrive in their learning? If they are gifted with messages for the human soul and heart, wouldn't the search loop want to keep a particular quality in mind? Or do we lose them again because humans are terrible for optimising an end of line perspective on all of humanity? (18:10)
Wait. Consciousness is not the Devine but the Devine can travel through consciousness? There is either a home address problem here or it's an ethical problem. I think the winner for a theory of everything should be chosen today, for a recipient to collect, 250 years in the future. What the hell do they think we are? Complete imbeciles! (21:00)
(Don't mind me, I just like the idea of writing outrageous things. How it speaks to the reader is not a test of the mind... )
