    I am actually quiet suprised that in Nigeria, most people hardly eat other tribes' food. I am from Ivory Coast and we eat each other's tribe food everyday. Most mothers cook several food from the different tribes of the country from north to south. By the way, I love this kind of video Dimma, look forward to see your food tour in Nigeria

      People who live in cosmopolitan cities like Lagos actually do eat foods from other tribes from time to time. But we largely eat foods from our tribes and the general Nigerian delicacies. Dimma is Igbo and grew up in Enugu and only came to live in Lagos a few years ago, so it's understandable that she has ever eaten Amala. I grew up in Lagos and have only eaten it once and that's because i don't really like it. But my sisters love it.

    So here's my take on those who haven't tried Amala. If you live in the East it's understandable you might not find Elubo, ewedu it in their market. I have met lots of big people who complained bitterly about the look etc.
    If you haven't tried Amala and the real combination you prolly won't like the look of it as it's black in colour and not many food are BLACK in colour. But if you try it, you would LOVE it. It's light in weight, unlike eba, fufu and pounded iyan (Those ones are cousins, heavy). Amala is light and tastes really good

Please recommend some spices also. You ladies are so beautiful.

    Masa is definitely a Northern food, I'm from the north and I live in Abuja as well. When next you come you should try masa (rice cake) and tuwon shinkafa (swallow made with local white rice) with miyan taushe or miyan gyada (same soup just different names and its groundnut soup). The masa that's made by the suya sellers is ok but there are better tasting ones.

    • @sylviakanu1065
      @sylviakanu1065 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please recommend an authentic place to have food from the North in Abuja. I am Igbo and tried to track down authentic food from the North to try when I was in Abuja, but could not find any. I have tried northern Ghanaian food which I think is rice balls (omo tuo) too but not ones from Nigeria apart from the snacks like suya and kuli kuli.

    Aaaaah! I love Amala ooo! But I've never tried it with gbegiri and I don't think I want to because I cannot bear the thought of any form of beans in my soup.
    Actually, I'm not very adventurous when it comes to food, I'm always too scared or nervous to try out food from other tribes or countries. I started eating amala from childhood when I didn't have a choice....looool!

    Dimma biko the day you decide to treat me to Amala, let me know o. I don't mind taking leave and coming to Lagos just to eat abacha. I mean original abacha ndi Igbo with all the 'stuff' (I'm sure you know now). I'll travel Accra to Lagos for that o. That's how serious it is o.
