    FYI. Mr barns is no longer with us. He died 1/8/23 but I his wife ,Cheryl, still following you. I no longer have a hiking partner after 55 yrs but still hike with my dog. We last hiked presidential range and AT in mid 80s. You forget how spectacular it can be and a challenging beautiful hike. Really enjoying you sharing this magnificent granite state with us. Please be extra careful as you get the more challenging terrain ahead of you and high water crossings.

    I watched Tommy Lister’s video and loved it when he called you “world famous”. You’re too damn modest to admit how accomplished you are as a hiker so I’m glad another hiker gave you the props you deserve. I hope you’re just wearing your glasses now. I would have to think contacts would be a real PITA on trail. I’m looking forward to that sunrise tomorrow. Don’t disappoint me !!

    If you can carry a small baby shampoo with you, wash your eyelids & lashes with a tiny bit every day. We battled a stye situation with one of our kids. Ultimately fixed with oral antibiotics after the ointment & drops didn’t work. Better than knocking out a kid to treat surgically. Warm compresses are good but that’s tough on the trail…

  • @MaxZomboni
    @MaxZomboni ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the same problem with my eyes. I might recommend that you get a small soft microfiber cloth, like the type for cleaning eyeglasses. Put it in a ziplock bag. Then before you go to bed take it out, wet it down with just clean water and use it to clean around your eyelids. Do the same thing when you wake up in the morning to get all the gunk out of your eyes. That works for me. Alternatively you could use a wet paper towel instead of a microfiber cloth, but you might not want to carry paper towels with you. Whatever you do don't rub your eyes or even touch them with your fingers. When you do that the bacteria from your hands will get into your eyes and cause problems. If you feel the need to rub, get the microfiber cloth out and use it. Clean your eyes, don't rub them. I hope maybe that is helpful.

    I had that eye thing where it was droopy several years ago and was given the cream, I was concerned about what would happen to it once it went in the eye and they said “It will just melt in there”, . Then it was an immediate recovery basically. They didn’t mention the stye part though.
    I guess the earliest sunrise on the trail must be on Kathadin around the solstice… as early as 4:50 am with the aurora probably visible before 4! But might have to be above the horizon.

    I'm glad that your eye is on the road to recovery. I remember just being told to put neosporin in my eyes back in the day. I have daily contacts nowadays, but I switched to self-darkening prescription glasses for backpacking. However, they're not quite dark enough for CA desert conditions and are not polarized for ocean trips.

    I have always had a love-hate relationship with the Hut system. The small cabins hidden away are cool. But I feel that the AMC Huts are an eyesore. Years ago, I wrote a scathing review of the huts. I never stayed in them, but I did get breakfast at Mitzvah one morning. I had been caught in a terrible storm above tree line so I hunkered down and set up a tent. I had no choice but to stealth camp. Thankfully by morning, all was calm and quiet, I took down the tiny tent as soon as daylight hit. Had a snack and watched the sunrise and hiked to Mitzvah for breakfast. The staff was busy and a bit rude and the people who stayed there were from a company and they were all lawyers talking very loudly about business.
    This was in the early 1980s. I was appalled, but grateful for the breakfast. At the time, I wished the hut system was not there. This isn't Europe I thought. This should be wilderness. Oh well,
    Today, I am much more flexible in my views. I still feel they are an eyesore, but nevertheless, they serve a service for people who would never get out there.
    Do they still carry people's packs down from the top of Mt. Washington for those who have reservations? They did in those days. At least for the group that was coming is as I was leaving the warmth of the hut.
    Thanks for your vlog....

    What an awesome post, Nahamsha! You are so, SO happy. Your joy is palpable which was beautiful to witness. We have been so worried about your health & wellbeing. I guess finally being in Maine (I mean in real time, not this vid), having your glasses (I have the same pair), seeing your mom, getting some eye ointment, having a good night's sleep, and then seeing the spectacular landscape are all ingredients for a Happy Hiker! 😁 I think the main reason you are so happy, though, is because it's almost over. The end is near. And you SHOULD be happy because you just hiked 2,000 freaking miles. Please do real time vid for final day on Mt. Katahdin! 🙏 I'll be really bummed if I read about it a week later. Let us share your joy because we took the trip with you! Upward & Onward, Nahamsha! Almost there! 👣🔆⬆️

    When I saw Webster Cliffs in the title, I went into the fetal position. My fiancee and I climbed it in 98 during a thruhike. We did not eat breakfast and got a noon start as well. Although we had hiked a great distance to that point, it turned into a very emotional part of the hike. My fiancee almost collapsed from exhaustion on the board walk. I did manage to get her to the hut by dark and they took us in. We were so grateful. Lessons learned. Eat and start early. Don't underestimate an area you have never climbed. Taylor , I agree that for me Webster is the hardest climb on the AT. The beautiful view was not worth it. Just kidding. There was a sense of accomplishment. I did climb it again a few years later. Seemed just as difficult even with a good breakfast.
    I'm also glad you were able to get a diagnosis and treatment for your eye.

    I love your action shots of hiking. How many extra miles have you added to your hike retracing steps to retrieve your camera?

    Great day taking care of business with your mom then a rocky climb. Sounds like you have the prescription for healing your eye; hope so. BTW Some of those shots of you climbing were amazing - not sure how you did it all...

    What app are you using showing the elevation profile. App looks great! You are doing an amazing job. My 13 year old daughter and U are watching your great videos. We live in Virginia and I’m looking to do the Shenandoah this fall.
