I have been really depressed the last few months, so I took up knitting. All the tutorials made me anxious because they moved so quickly and I couldn’t keep up. Then I found yours. Your voice is so calming, and you are a TRULY amazing teacher. I learned so much about knitting because of your patience. This tutorial was something for me to look forward to, and now I have a sock to show for all my hard work!! Please know that you helped this stranger get through her hardest days. Thank you 🤍
I’m so glad the video helped you get through some hard days. I hope things keep trending upwards for you and that knitting keeps bringing you healing and enjoyment ❤️❤️❤️
I started knitting a few months ago, but I was scared to knit something bigger oder ''complicated'' (for beginner), but 5mins ago I finished my first sock by using your tutorial. It fits perfectly, made for my foot. I am really really proud of myself right now and grateful for your video and the experience you gave me! I'm overwhelmed because I never thought that I could create someting like this, even if its ''just a sock''. Can't wait to start the other one. Thank you!
The best ever. I have knitted for years, but never knitted a sock. Because of your excellent video, I have knitted my first sock and I am now on my second. Thank you so much!!!!
This was literally the best knitting tutorial I have ever come across. After three failed attempts of magic loop sock knitting with other videos, I came across yours and am very happy to say I've just completed my first ever successful sock! Your instruction is so clear, concise and truly beginner friendly (unlike many others that are supposed to be but aren't!). I love the way you never just presume that we've "got" something and whizz through sections in the way some other teachers do. The way you repeat things many times is so helpful in engraining it in to the mind and having the pattern to look at as we go along is not only really practical but a great way to teach us to read patterns and knit from them ourselves. Thank you so much. I shall definitely be following more of your tutorials!
That’s such a huge compliment, thank you! I truly appreciate your kind words so much. I put a lot of effort into making them beginner friendly so it’s wonderful to hear it’s coming across as easy to follow. Thank you ❤️❤️
You just turned a non-knitter into a knitter. I just found this tutorial and made my first sock. You are a fantastic teacher. I wish you could walk me through more projects. The hardest part was the kitchener stitch. Oh, and I ripped my sock apart about ten times before I felt I got it right. I had a hard time with picking up the same number of slip stitches on both sides. Eventually, I found them all first, and slipped toothpicks in them so I could easily identify them. That helped a lot. Please make more videos like this!
Wohooo!! Congrats on becoming a knitter and a sock knitter at that! Huge accomplishment! So happy you found the video helpful :) I’ve got some other free pattern tutorials on my channel and working on several more at the moment. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your story ❤️❤️
Wow Thank you for this Tutorial. This “magic loop” technique has always evaded me no matter how many tutorials I’ve watched. You made it easy to understand. I finally get it!!! Thank you!
Thank you! You are a very good teacher! I’ve watched a lot of sick videos and none of them slow down and focus the camera on the techniques used. It’s so frustrating when the hands are bouncing around and you can’t see what they did. Your voice sounds so relaxed and calming too. To me, it’s what knitting should be; peaceful and enjoyable. Not stress and getting hyper. Again, thank you!
I tried to knit a year ago and gave up a few hours in. This week I sat down and really got my knits and purls down and I just now finished my first sock after 2 days of watching this video! Thanks so much!:)
This is my first real knitting project and it was amazing, instructions were clear and the sock turned out amazing, no holes or anything doing this way of switching from needle to needle while turning. It may seem complicated but once you start knitting, it makes more sense. I just need to make one more sock... If you want to do it, do it!
Also I made these sock with a 5 mm needle and cast on 41, ALSO WRITE DOWN how many rows you did... I didn't and I'm probably going to have to different size socks:( I don't know how to count rows:(
Ive knit many socks over the last few years so I know how but here I am watching you teach and I am just as invested as if I was just learning.. you are a fantastic teacher !!! 😊
Ohmyword! Now I totally understand the love that people have for hand knitting socks! I am nearing my toe decreases, but I do feel it’s safe to say that “you’ve got me toe-tally hooked already!” (I made a few mistakes but it feels lovely!) And I am already excited to do this one’s mate...so hopefully no second sock syndrome for this girl. Thank you a million times over for your generosity of this tutorial and pattern download (Ravelry).
I wish to say thank you for your wonderful teaching I found your tutorial so helpful .i have tried hundreds of times to make a sock failed every time pulled it out and tried again and again I have watch many tutorials but they all went to fast in there teaching . But you did it step by step made it so easy and finally I made it I only did 1 just to see how I would go I was thrilled with myself …so thank you so much and now I will make up a pair …❤

Thanks for your very clear instructions and pattern! I have knitted several pairs of socks, however, they do not always come out quite right. I like the idea of using worsted weight yarn, so I will definitely try this pattern! Thanks so much for the tutorial! My confidence in sock knitting is elevated to new levels!
I've finally finished my first sock! After many tries, I finally finished it. Thank you so much, you made knitting socks very easy for me, thank you. I'm now making my other sock. Thank you!
Thank you. I have been trying for the past week to try making a sock and no one explains how to join the round they just say to join it. I finally figured it out with your video thank you so much!
Ok, I know I keep commenting (🤣) but this is really the best tutorial ever. Like of anything ever. I have done one pair of socks and am now on to knitting another with contrasting heel and toe 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Yay! Thank you SO MUCH! I now have the sock knitting bug 🤣🧶
This was SO helpful! I've tried following many other tutorials, but this is the first one where everything was clear enough that I didn't get frustrated and toss the just-started sock back in my knitting bag and tell myself (and lie to myself) that I would finish it later. One sock down, one to go!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this sock tutorial!!! Definitely the easiest one I've found. I was intimidated by magic loop but it was sooo easy! I'm so proud of my socks and can't wait to make a bunch more! 💛😁
This video is amazing. You explain and show things so clearly and I'm thrilled with my result. I tried other tutorials and just couldn't get it ... especially the heel turn and gusset. Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much for this video tutorial! I have been wanting to knit socks and never tried for fear that I couldn’t do it. But now because of your wonderful job I am happily knitting socks!!! Your voice is so soothing and the way you explain things is absolutely perfect! ❤🧦🧶
Ive been trying to knit a aock for months and wasn't getting. I finally made one and understand so much more what i was doing wrong. Thank you for making this video 😊
OMG, I have been so confused about making socks with the magic loop. You have made it easy for me to understand what I am doing. I can't want to make a pair of socks. Thank you.
I just realized now that I have destroyed my sock unless I rip the whole gusset up and redo it. Unfortunately I misunderstood what you meant by slip the marker cause I didn’t look. Edit: I fixed it and the sock turned out great. Now I am knitting my second sock and it is super fun!
So excited to see this up, I test knitted this pattern! :) I can say without a doubt that it is wonderful and the finished product looks amazing and has a great fit
Thank you! Bulky yarn might be a bit too tricky, the jump in yarn size from worsted to bulky is quite big. You'd probably have to work it over less stitches instead of using a smaller needle since bulky yarn is so thick. You could knit up a gauge swatch and see how many stitches give you the foot/ankle circumference that you want and cast on that amount instead, and then the heel flap would just be worked over half the total stitches. Hope that helps!
@@TheBlueMouseKnits so considerate of you to indulge my silly-ish question with a thorough response. youre right it was kinda tight looking, i’ll follow your advice. 😇
Even though I've knitted socks before, this is the best video to give me a refresher. Especially with the magic loop! I've only done magic loop one other time. I will use this video when I'm ready to do my next socks. Picking up the stitches was explained so well. Thank you so much! You're a great teacher!
This is such a lovely pattern and very well put together video! I've been knitting for about a year but this is my first pair of socks. I have a question, when I use worsted weight on US 5's I'm getting nowhere near the gauge. I'm getting about 26 sts for 4". I've sized all the way up to US 8s with Aran weight yarn and am at 3.5" for 17 sts. Am I doing something totally wrong? I'm just doing stockinette in that "fake" in the round (where you carry yarn behind the swatch). Thank you so much
How can we adjust the pattern/sizing for the more appropriate fingering/sock weight yarn? I’m surprised you made the pattern for worsted weight. I made my first pair of socks with worsted and they were too thick for my preference. Help for a fingering weight version? And by the way, you are by far my favorite teacher on TH-cam, thank you for all you do!
Hi, I don't really think you could easily adjust this pattern for fingering weight yarn. I chose to make this one in worsted weight because I think it's easier to learn with thicker yarn, it makes it super fast so you don't lose hope halfway through (and is easier to see the instruction in the video). I have plans to make a fingering weight version for the channel later this year. However, I think you could find a vanilla fingering weight pattern (with a heel flap and gusset) online somewhere and come back to the video for reference for each section (heel flap, heel turn, gusset...etc). Sorry there's no easy adjustment for fingering weight at the moment, but there will be a free pattern video for that later this year.
Great tutorial! Socks came out so cute! Just one question: When you are on the Final gusset round shouldn't you knit all around first before slipping the remaining stitches onto N1 in order to have equal distribution on both needles.
Just answering my own question...follow pattern instructions exactly as written to maintain proper stitch distribution for when you eventually do toe decrease!
Are those a set of 2 needles? If so then he’s it should be able to be worked with them. You may have to place half of the stitches on waste yarn for the heel flap, but it should still work!
am i the only one who has a heel flap that is much wider than 2.5" (it's around 3.5") so the heel flap is not as long as it is wide 😭my gauge is correct so i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong or if that's supposed to happen with a larger size (i am working a size 5)
Do you have a kofi we can tip you on for your work or would you prefer us buy the pattern from Etsy? Would love to send some money your way for this :)
That's so kind, thank you! I don't have a kofi, but shopping a pattern on either Etsy, Ravelry or Lovecrafts (The Blue Mouse for all sites) is a great way to support the channel. Appreciate it so much!
Nope, when you're knitting the gusset you will have a different amount of stitches on each needle. At the end of the gusset when all your decreases are all finished, you will move your stitches around to be the same again. But before that, you will have a different amount.
Anyone in the UK reading this, what yarn did you use? Hobby Lobby is not a thing outside of America as far as I know, and Amazon want £20.00 a skein. The Hobby Lobby website is denied here. Still a beginner so I want to get it right!
@@TheBlueMouseKnits I think I got it! I’m doing it left-handed, so I get things backward. I’m on row 2 of the cuff and so far, so good! You’re such a great teacher 🥰🧶
You could knit these with DPNs, but I suggest having some experience adapting a magic loop pattern for DPNs or having experience knitting socks on DPNs. The gusset would probably be the hardest part, but with proper marker placement it's probably doable.
I did a long tail cast on (without a slip knot), so both my tails end up next to each other. But this works even if your tail is at the other end. Just focus on getting the working yarn in the correct position and it should work out just the same as the video in the end. Hope that helps ❤️
I needed socks with Emily on double pointed needles the first pair of worsted socks with double pointed needles and now I cannot find the video I do not want the magic loop I want Emily's tutorial with double pointed needles for my first vanilla sock with worsted yarn and I cannot find the video
Hi Jeanne, I’ve never made a video like that as I don’t have much experience with DPNs. However, there might be another channel with a video for that, I hope you can find it. ❤️
I made it all the way to setting the stitch markers, then you didn’t stop and show the differentiation of how the work was placed on needle 1 and 2, so I’m lost.
Am I the only one to have messed this up? I ended up with a hole each side after picking up stitches, even though I was knitting the same size exactly as the tutorial and thrn, somehow, ended up with way too many stitches after my decrease rounds. I had 2 on N1 and 5 on N2 either side of the markers but somehow 12 extra stitches. I feel so stupid, because this is the best tutorial ever for knitting a sock. I'm so disheartened. Maybe I'm just too stupid to knit socks 😢

I adjusted for DK. I found a similar pattern, looked at the CO amount for foot circumference size, and went with it. It worked beautifully ☺️
@@ALAuchter Yes, but fingering is another size smaller than DK, a huge difference from worsted.
Never done socks in worsted weight, or short rows, this out to be interesting 😊
Would like to know what size needle you use for worsted weight. Thank you
Saving this because I've been knitting for forty years and been too afraid to do socks 🧦 😂
You can totally do it! Once you knit one pair you’ll be hooked :)
This is an amazing tutorial, Emily! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and all the time you put into creating this pattern & video
Thank you so much Tabitha! That makes me so happy to hear, I really hope you will knit your first pair of socks. You can do it! I believe in you!
Excelente tutorial gracias 🙏🏻por enseñar🇺🇾
I’m gonna try to do the magic loop, but if I don’t get it, can I use DPNs?
Great tutorial! Socks came out so cute! Just one question: When you are on the Final gusset round shouldn't you knit all around first before slipping the remaining stitches onto N1 in order to have equal distribution on both needles.
Just answering my own question...follow pattern instructions exactly as written to maintain proper stitch distribution for when you eventually do toe decrease!
Would it be fine to knit a sock from acrylics because all other videos says it has to have wool but I have wool sensitivity?
You 100% can! I made the socks in this video with 100% acrylic yarn :)
Can this be done with Flexi flips needle's
Are those a set of 2 needles? If so then he’s it should be able to be worked with them. You may have to place half of the stitches on waste yarn for the heel flap, but it should still work!
Thank you
am i the only one who has a heel flap that is much wider than 2.5" (it's around 3.5") so the heel flap is not as long as it is wide 😭my gauge is correct so i'm not sure if i'm doing something wrong or if that's supposed to happen with a larger size (i am working a size 5)
Can you do the tutorial with dpns
Do you have a kofi we can tip you on for your work or would you prefer us buy the pattern from Etsy? Would love to send some money your way for this :)
That's so kind, thank you! I don't have a kofi, but shopping a pattern on either Etsy, Ravelry or Lovecrafts (The Blue Mouse for all sites) is a great way to support the channel. Appreciate it so much!
Can you use size 5 yarn ?
Unfortunately no. Size 5 yarn is a pretty big jump from size 4 so you'd end up with a much larger sock than the sizes for this pattern.
137 m of yarn is just for one foot sock or a pair of socks?
After I PU stitches, am I supposed to have the same number of total stitches on each needle? Just checking.
Nope, when you're knitting the gusset you will have a different amount of stitches on each needle. At the end of the gusset when all your decreases are all finished, you will move your stitches around to be the same again. But before that, you will have a different amount.
@@TheBlueMouseKnits Thanks so much!
Easy Vanilla Socks
@@TheBlueMouseKnits i can’t wait to finish them
Anyone in the UK reading this, what yarn did you use? Hobby Lobby is not a thing outside of America as far as I know, and Amazon want £20.00 a skein. The Hobby Lobby website is denied here. Still a beginner so I want to get it right!
Is the working yarn in the back or front?
For what section, timestamp?
@@TheBlueMouseKnits I think I got it! I’m doing it left-handed, so I get things backward. I’m on row 2 of the cuff and so far, so good! You’re such a great teacher 🥰🧶
@@ALAuchter Awesome! I'm so happy to hear it, that's so exciting!! Let me know if you have any questions along the way :)
can i make this with double pointed needles?
You could knit these with DPNs, but I suggest having some experience adapting a magic loop pattern for DPNs or having experience knitting socks on DPNs. The gusset would probably be the hardest part, but with proper marker placement it's probably doable.
omg i’m knitting a sock

Why is your tail and working yarn on the same side? 😩 I can’t fingers that out
I did a long tail cast on (without a slip knot), so both my tails end up next to each other.
Please tell me how to access dpns vanilla socks first pair knitted by emily
Hi Jeanne, I’ve never made a video like that as I don’t have much experience with DPNs. However, there might be another channel with a video for that, I hope you can find it. ❤️
❤❤❤❤❤
